Food supply in this country is already shit. Several industries should not be singularly profit motivated -  healthcare, utilities, war and defense, prisons, and farming.

Gonna derail so hang on tight, brain's a bit muddy this morning.

Please excuse me if I misuse any economic terms, it's not an area where I've got a lot from which to draw.

IMO, one of the things that actually did make America great was that despite it being an imperfect 'ism,' when it came to policy or practice  i.e. not wholly capitalism nor socialism, the blend of what is a product/production versus what is a service had reached a fairly gentle compromise post WWII. America had services at all levels from local to federal in education, the courts, and other infrastructure that enabled the production to happen. Of course, that was built with some systemic issues with which our country was and is now trying to avoid/handle depending upon your perspective, and I'm understating those obvious issues so as not to derail the thread ...but to bring it forward about sixty years, the two-fold attack (one by oligarchical minded extremely wealthy families and the other being foreign adversaries such as Putin) on destroying or privatizing the 'service side' of government is one we will regret even though we will be long gone before it reaches the disaster it will surely be.

The potential we have wasted through selfishness, cruelty, apathy, inaction, and ignorance are problems that are not easy to solve, but boy did we squander some magnificent opportunities once we began to open American society and invest in all the people and not just those deemed 'worthy' by the powerful. To use a term one sees a lot: Underserved minority. Gee, that said it all didn't it? The government started to actually serve all the people and some people lost their minds. Wealth inequality is exploited by fear and voters gave into that because they could not envision how much more powerful our economy could be if we embraced the imperfect 'ism' and molded it into something uniquely and diversely American.

Not that many will see it but I hope some working class and poor, who voted for Trump, see how he’s celebrating their misery.

he really has no idea how an economy works. I know small companies that buy products from China and then turn it into great paying jobs for Americans installing and maintaining those products in the oil fields.

You see, when there's no stuff on the shelves for you to buy, and you leave the store with nothing, you're really just saving money. Granted, those are things you need to live a normal functioning life, but hey, savin' money.

Kind of like eliminating critical programs in our government to save money. Like me getting rid of my AC unit and my fridge and my carbon monoxide detector and fire extinguisher, to save money. It's just smart.

Perhaps this could go in the tariff thread but unemployment works fits here too.

I'm with the wtf does *this even mean other than it's piss?

*I understand that the "truthed" refers to his social media platform's name, but hearing that Bessant is in Geneva talking with China is supposed to make the unemployed feel optimistic?

Sure you don't have any income, but there's nothing to buy and you got a lot of free time off so why are you complaining?

Well, it’s not even the real verse but a loose and fairly questionable paraphrase:

“In their hearts humans plan their course but the Lord establishes their steps.”

For better or for worse what exists here (as everywhere) is a set of folk beliefs and not a real attempt to grapple with pre-modern wisdom poetry.

Which, it needs to be said, was not written in the first case as the Literal Word of God.  The whole Literal Word of God take on the 66 books of the Protestant canon is itself a bit of folk religion that sprung from a certain place and time.

Besides the dishonest misquote, most of the book of Proverbs consists of lessons on how to live a productive, Godly life. It very clearly says that how we act, think, do business, etc., directly impacts our quality of life. Taking some fatalistic view of religious life from that book in particular is madness. At least pick Job or something where you can at least put together a case for it. It’s not surprising that things would be so corrupted: bad company corrupts good morals.

Funny but when you read the replies there is a total absence of MAGATS.

They must scurry when the lights come on like the fucking roaches they are.

Yeah Trump has a lot of tremendously stupid quotes but that one might… crack the top 10

In his feeble mind TFG thinks that we just cut bait with suppliers in China and other countries and then by some form of witchcraft FACTORIES OPEN UP EVERYWHERE IN 'MERICA!

His moron cult will go right along with that and be pissed that their local Rust Belt factory hasn't already opened back up to give them a job again. This is why TFG loves uneducated people like himself. It's easy to lie to them and they won't realize they're being played. It'll always be the fault of some Radical Democrat.

Update, seen at Angie's restaurant today (presumably driven by egg prices):

"All breakfast plate prices increased $2

All tacos increased $.35"

THANKS, OBUMMER!

Saw it at Waffle House about a month ago…$1 extra per egg

Low revenue generation? That sounds like we need some tax cuts,  the evisceration of the IRS, and greater unemployment that prevents tax collection.

We need to raise taxes and look at waste and unnecessary programs and a thoughtful non-political manner.  IOW, we are fucked.

We should also take a fucking cleaver to Department of defense spending.  We don’t need billion dollar aircraft carriers, we need fast ships with multiple levels for large quantity drone deployment.

Moodys will be attacked by Trump over the weekend for being anti-maga and anti-America. He will propose making their services illegal and subject to a tariff.  Moodys = John Roberts = Jerome Powell = Bruce Springsteen. All losers.

What in the goddamn fuck is it going to take for people to realize how fucking stupid this administration is?

The real question is what in the goddamn fuck is it going to take for people to take action against this administration and the Republican Party?  There’s a lot of people who know this shit is ridiculous and horrifying. I know my red line (public lands). I don’t know if most people have actual red lines.

Watching Ken Burns’ Vietnam tonight and the Americans in the 60s seemed way more ready to fight the good fight. I think the Internet and social media makes people think they can make real change behind a keyboard (including myself in this). I fear reality is only boots on the ground can make real change.

It's going to be 25 years before this can all be undone (if possible). Once you go down these roads, elections aren't going to fix things. 2028 isn't going to be "okwe are all good! Let's fix all this shit!"

"Business man" president is shocked that corporations act like corporations who only look out for themselves at the expense of consumers? I'm sure he always ate the cost of things for his organizations and never passed along the cost to others.

So he starts off saying that Wal-Mart should not be trying to blame tariffs for raising prices. Ok. He then says that they should just eat the tariffs. And lose money. So he's acknowledging that eh whatever fuck it he's just a moron.

Well Walmart and China together should eat the tariffs.

That's mighty white of China to lose money for us for no reason.
