This team is exactly what most of you thought it would be this season.  Decent. No better, no worse.  We flirted with Top 10 and most of you went fucking aggy and started assuming we had turned the corner that quick.  If you are surprised by this it's your own fault.  We are a decent team with a few superstars and mostly decent guys filling out the rest of the roster and decent coaches.  Nothing more, nothing less.  Shut the fuck up already.

Go back and read your pre-season predictions.  Every one of you would have been pretty damn happy with this season so far back then.  That's not me claiming a moral victory. Fuck this loss... fuck all these losses.  But they were expected unless you're a fucking moron.

Yep.... Most said 8-4 or 9-3

So many on this thread have all the answers on why Herman caused this loss..... Funny as Shit

What about Baylor’s shots at the end zone

Under Strong we were a team that got blown out by good teams and found ways to lose 50/50 games. We can play with good teams now but are no better than a coin flip in tight games it feels like.   I thought we were better than that but the last two weeks are a beating.

People saying we shouldn't have scored a damn game-leading touchdown so fast are hindsight junkies. You take the touchdown play every time.

wasting clock trying to stop a score in a shootout, or scoring too soon in a shootout, is an uncurable arrogance and an art that requires mastery.

yup.  it's called keepaway.  a field goal wins it.  make them take their 2 timeouts and burn another 80 seconds of clock.  and take a false start on 3rd down, burn another 40 seconds.   this is a cultural thing.   anyone who understands soccer gets this.  and if you somehow miss a kick from the 14 yard line you are still tied.  you have not given the opponent the ball.  sun tzu.  winning is hard.

A man after my own heart.

Years back, I got pissed at a player for scoring a TD, and was shouted down by my brethren.

I seemed to be the only one who understood that scoring, and thereby giving the ball back to them, was the only scenario in which we could potentially lose.

It's a game of strategy, after all.

WVU’s average recruiting ranking for 2015-2018 is 41.5 with 35 being their highest ranking (twice lulz)

I get weary of some fans saying that we can’t expect too much because we don’t field 4 years of top ten recruiting classes.  When it comes to Herman, Holdor could beat your’n with his’n or his’n with your’n.

Looks like Tom was on the verge of crying. He gets that way you know.

There was a 35-40 year old man bawling his ass off in section 12 for at least 15-20 minutes after the game ended.  His mom was calmly sitting next to him waiting for him to get it all out before they left i guess. Had to be a former shagster...

Damn we are so close. I give Herman a break. It hurts we lost to WVU and last week, especially knowing we could have won those two games. But at least Texas was there to the very end. The last seconds. That in itself is different than where they have been. That in itself is something to hang on to and feel like they are on the verge. I know it's hollow, but I see progress.

There are times where this is appropriate. Todd Gurley kneeling last week was one. Here, Texas couldn’t have run the clock out by downing it at the 1. Sacrificing a TD to go up 7 to go up 3 instead is ridiculous, if your opponent is going to get the ball either way.

Every time I want to give Herman a pass... I remember he’s making $6 million a year. For that kind of money he does not get a pass. He should know how to manage a game much better. His defense shouldn’t have glaring holes in it.

It's going to be harder to fix the defense than the offense, as Herman is an offensive specialist and pretty much has taken it over.  Defensively, we're still rolling the coaching dice.

i think defense is just more about the talent. we have some huge holes in talent out there. just got to get the guys in here.

Herman needs to focus on recruiting the front 7 on D and more dogs on the O-line. Seems like we clean up with DBs and WRs and recruit fine with QBs. The jury is still out on RBs and LBs. We seem to strike out on the top trench talent. Need to change focus a bit and probably get rid of Giles. Need an A+ recruiter there.

Maybe, but it's been like 11 years.  We had maybe 1-2 solid years there, but most of them have been less then stellar, including their worst defensive year in the history of Longhorn football (under Charlie).  We've had "talent" and a LOT of upper 4's and 5's come in here and cycle out.  And the majority of them get worse while they're playing here.  It's happening this year, too.

I've watched freshmen in other games (Alabama, well okay they don't count), even Maryland, yes Maryland, perform well all year and improve.  Our DB's are regressing, the D linemen started so-so and have generally gotten less effective if not injured (which sometimes honestly I don't know whether it's due to bad coaching and therefore bad positions resulting in being prone to injurious hits or twists, etc.), and the linebackers for the most part are awful and can't regress much more (even Johnson is frequently way, way behind anything but the most straightforward plays.

The end of Mack's effectiveness and Charlie's tenure were characterized by bringing in gold chippers and them leaving as halfassed players.  So far under Hermie, I don't see much difference - and for the love of God I have no idea why players come here and get worse.  Pressure?  Arrogance?  Terrible coaching?  I don't know.

do know this... watch Iowa State's defense.  My god those guys play disciplined and know exactly where they're supposed to be, and are led by LB strength, and those guys aren't necessarily beasts.  I'd say this is how K-State has functioned for 20 years as well but this year finally the Purple Magic is just not enough and they suck.  But chances are they'd be back.

I've never seen anything like it in my 40 years of following Texas football - one side or the other sucks shit through a straw and keeps doing it over a few years, while the other side is good.  Then it flip-flops (excepting Charlie's last 2 years when both started sucking together).  And it's still going on.

I wonder if the “We’re Texas” arrogance creeps in the longer the players are on campus. Treated like rock stars without earning it. The media jacking the team off when it was obvious we are a long way from being “Back”. It’s some systemic shit left over from Mack and DeLoss era and we are no longer heads and shoulders above the rest of the league save OU in talent to be arrogant. Basketball seems that way too. CDC has some work to do to change that old culture.

We also had two starters and one of their replacements go down in the game. It was an ugly defensive performance, but it was on the same ineffectual seniors who have plagued us all season (Locke and Wheeler). They'll be replaced soon, hopefully the bleeding stops. I was encouraged by Anthony Cook, Joseph Ossai, and Malcolm Roach. Thompson and Shark need to get better in a hurry since they will be relied on next season, and Sterns needs to get out of his little slump. But this team is infinitely better than the last four seasons.

the O is much much better, best since ?? . The 2017 D was better than this year, had 4 NFL players as upperclassmen.

god what a stupid comment.  yeah they should have just taken all the clock and scored with one second left then WV wouldn't have a chance to score!!!
