Lot of troof in this.  It's going to be difficult for 99% of this forum to understand, but the vast majority of Americans DON'T spend every waking moment checking their twitter feed or watching cable news (be it FNC or MSNBC) or obsessing about what's happened in the last 10 minutes in the DC beltway.

At work, nobody's talking about Trump or impeachment.  With my neighbors, nobody's talking about Trump or impeachment.  That's why I don't get this sense of impending civil war no matter the outcome next year, but we'll see what happens in 2020 I guess.  Sure, you got your nutjobs like that Ceasar guy with the Trump van or the guy who shot Scalise, but most of the people aren't looking for the next outrage for a call to arms.

This entire post is just a damning indictment of what is wrong with America.  It would probably be fair if we were talking about any other president in our lifetimes, but this shit is different.  If people haven't woken up to what is happening now then they are part of the problem.  This is not politics as usual.  This is a fucking crisis and battle for the outcome of the American experiment.

Yeah, I’m sorry but theses hypothetical “good people” who became red voters years ago aren’t just normal people who aren’t obsessed with politics - they’re ACTIVELY choosing to ignore what’s happening.

Americans have never had more easy access to information than they do now. And the impeachment stories are EVERYWHERE. They don’t have to make the decision to find a forum like this to know what’s going on - it’s all over every news outlet, social media platform, everywhere.

They’re choosing to keep their heads in the sand because deep down they know what is happening is horrible but they don’t want to face the role they played. They and their loved ones aren’t being directly hurt so they keep their red blinders on.

It’s the most evil kind of acquiescence. Don’t let them off the hook - what’s being described is privilege to be ignorant because they have they right skin color or genitals or choice of partner or nationality.

They have the choice of just going about their lives - lots of Americans don’t.

I didn’t bring up the “good people” thread to start an argument on whether they are or aren’t. you can call them stupid, evil or whatever, it doesn’t change the fact they’re voting for trump and may allow him to win again. And there are also people that will vote trump but won’t come close to admitting it even to a pollster. That group may even be larger.

Somehow the gop has built an image that people identify with but if you spoke about each trump policy, I think most of them would disagree with the policies.

Dems have a difficult battle ahead if them for next year and beyond.

Given where we are today, it would be a good idea to attempt to define and codify implementation of military grade psy-ops by anything campaign or govt related similar to what Title II of the National Research Act of 1974 achieved for research involving human subjects.  In these matters humans by nature are exploitable and the harm being done is real.

Well fucking shut it down then. If this is where we are as a species, just end it.  If objective truth doesn't matter, there is no reality.

I see you’ve hopped off Brisket’s ledge of political despondency and landed smack in the middle of BrickHorn’s lanai of human self-loathing.  Welcome to the party, pal.  That species you and I belong to?  It sucks.  It’s arrogant, reckless, and pathetically stupid.  Might as well enjoy a mai tai and laugh at all the self-important hairless monkeys with me.

What? Over? Did you say 'over'? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!...It ain't over now, 'cause when the goin' gets tough, the tough get goin'. Who's with me? Let's go! Come on!... ARRRRGHHH!

... What the fuck happened to the Shaggy I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest time of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. 'Ooh, we're afraid to go with you, Hornius, we might fail.' (shouting) Well, just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this...

The Sunday shows would be so much better if the host could shock the guest, or release attack dogs, even dump bags of novelty goop. At least then there might be a moment of hesitation before they start lying and you can only see a shadow where the soul used to be.

Or, you know, something like just saying "since you are not going to answer the question that you were asked instead of obfuscating, you are done, we are going to commercial and bringing out our next guest".

I know that will never happen, because without guests, one of the reasons for the shows dries up, but why give a soapbox to someone who either will lie or simply ignore questions until they get one they will answer directly and honestly?

I’m not on the ledge, because Trump is terrified, more than he’s been in the past few years.   He is flailing about.  Everything he learned as a reality star is not working, because he can’t fire Schiff, and his dumb-ass self is doing really simple shit that even your typical moron understands.

I’m kind of morbidly curious how far they’d take this. Like Costanza driving Susan’s parents out to the Hamptons. What if Trump actually DID shoot someone on 5th Ave? Would the Sunday shows look the same?

“Look I’m not going to talk about Trump. If he wants to shoot people he’s going to shoot people. I want to talk about pizzagate. Or something.”

Oh I’m not a defeatist.  I’m just honest about what we are.  Some of y’all are just catching on to the reality that humans will believe some really stupid shit and do some really terrible things in furtherance of said stupid beliefs.  It’s nice to have some company on the lanai for a change.

I don't think anybody (here at least) has ever believed that humans don't believe some really stupid shit and do some really terrible things in furtherance of said stupid beliefs.

Our hope is that there are more who DON'T believe some really stupid shit. So far, with 7.5 billion of us on the planet, it appears that the optimists are defeating the pessimists. But what's scary is  that, with the right technology in the hands of the wrong people, this could change in an instant. Also scary is the idea of the idea of the Tragedy of the Commons but writ large across the planet.

Even hypothetically disagreeing with trump will never happen.   The best you’re going to get is what Jordan said: trump didn’t mean that. Here are the gop rules:

1. Agree with trump.

2. If trump says/does something that borders on inappropriate or criminal, he wasn’t being serious.

therefore everything in the gop is fine.

This interview is a dumpster fire.

They're all dumpster fires these days. People shouting over each other. It starts, as in the case above, with a filibuster that takes the discussion off topic. People then feel obliged to shout so that time won't run out.

That's a US Senator. Where's the dignity? He's shouting and filibustering in the way of a hack like Kellyanne Conway.

If you're defending something that you don't dare try to defend, maybe you should review your fucking position. Every time one of these shitbag GOPs toes the line, I become more convinced that all of their balls are on the line in the deeper criminal conspiracy that Trump is clumsily exposing.

The GOPs were all quietly Harrumphing at the trough of illegal money and favor bartering when Trump walks in and says, "Hey! Is there where the corruption goes on? I want to get into some of that money, baby!"

At first they shush him then he walks over to the window and opens it. "Shovel some of it this way, or I yell out the window, bitches."

Harrumph! They look at each other and realize they're fucked.

I hope the fucking is prolonged and painful. Then into the iron cage. I loathe these cockroaches.

I would pay good money to see a pack of wolves on the set that are let loose as soon as the person talking starts lying.

"Congressman Jordan our president asked for help from China and Ukraine in investigating a potential 2020 nominee? What are your thoughts?

Well first off the fake"

Unleash the wolves.

@Degenerate Gardner I like your style. It might get a little tricky to find guests once the first episode aired, but who would have thought anyone else from DC would appear on DWTS after Perry had a turn.

This fellow had some pretty good advice for the folks that deal with DJ up close. He has an entire thread, about 13 tweets long (you'll have to click on it so I don't take up too much space), and he is on the money as far as I'm concerned. He is a young adult author now, but he used to be in the legal field...

I read that too. Hoarse Whisperer had a similar take a few months ago.

For a bunch of cynics, many of you seem to believe that public officials are going to do the right thing.

I have no qualms in believing they will do whatever suits them politically.

Nancy Pelosi is closer in birth to the only football title the Ags have than the end of the Korean War. She does whatever suits her politically. It is infuriating to me. That bitch has maybe 10-15 years left on Earth and she wastes it trying to run out the clock on Dotard. I want politicians who give no fucks and will go right after someone like Dotard.

What is the best strategy with a narcissist, though? The twitter thread I read from a former lawyer who has dealt with people like Trump, talks of walking away but this is not a case where you can or should do that. So how do you get traction here? How do they go after him when not everyone is interested in doing that? Everyone in DC has an agenda, but DJ really just has one agenda and it's pretty simple. That is why he is so good at it.

You repeatedly go after him. 9am? Go after him. Just got through with a business lunch at 1pm? Go after him. You punch that fat fucking retard in the mouth the moment he starts uttering bullshit on Twitter. He is a coward and he will back down. This is not the time to try and be civil or be business as usual when it comes to the shitshow in the oval office.

From that NYT article.

Quote

Sloman and Fernbach cite a survey conducted in 2014, not long after Russia annexed the Ukrainian territory of Crimea. Respondents were asked how they thought the U.S. should react, and also whether they could identify Ukraine on a map. The farther off base they were about the geography, the more likely they were to favor military intervention. (Respondents were so unsure of Ukraine’s location that the median guess was wrong by eighteen hundred miles, roughly the distance from Kiev to Madrid.)

JFC. I.e., The more ignorant you are, the more likely you support killing people based on your own ignorant fucking opinions.

He's going to be in Louisiana and Minnesota for rally's this week so he will be hyped up on drugs and adrenaline. If folks go after him M-W they may just be able to watch him extrude Cheetodust through his pores live on tv.

Yes, the FBI is filled with libtard socialists with English literature degrees and poli-sci graduate degrees. It fits the profile.

The fact is that the FBI is likely filled with traditional GOPs who are now mortified at what the Trump GOP has become (or just realizing what the GOP has actually been for decades). Just like the former GOPs around here. Welcome to the club of being called America-haters by the rabid malignancy that has embraced Trump rather than principle or even political philosophy.
