To be fair, Jesus spoke extensively on the topics of abortion and transgender bathrooms. And probably the most important part of Christ’s ministry was His firm commitment to the Second Amendment and His instruction that all Christians should own and become proficient in the use of efficient, handheld killing machines.

It's a good thing the man didn't consistently call out excessive accumulation of wealth, while also strongly endorsing societal support for lifting the poor and neglected.

That shit would be whack.

And when you knock over the Piggly Wiggly in Yazoo and lie about it, those sins are warshed away.

In today's New York Times "The Daily", Maggie Haberman makes several great points. First, Donald Trump never wanted to be President and only entered the race to see if he could win. He won, but had no desire to actually put forth any effort or the work necessary to lead.  Second, Trump doesn't have the stomach for confrontation. He loves and thrives in chaos, but will eventually capitulate, and not because it is best for America.

So, he'll sew chaos and eventually back down because at his core he's lazy and a coward. Republicans in Congress are simply trying to stay on his good side for their own benefit or the Party's benefit. For instance, Moscow Mitch doesn't want Trump to damage the Georgia runoffs or have him generate heated Republican primaries in 2022.  It's a quality listen in the car today.

Point that out and get some variation on how their faith her personal and separate from how the Government should be run. I guess I was dreaming about Christians raging about taking down the ten commandments in government buildings, prayer in schools, "secularist" candidates like Joe Biden. That they insist the government make abortions illegal solely on the basis of their faith...on and on.

It's a waste of time. My Mom lost her job and got on Obamacare that she blasted for years. She's a walking list of comorbities. She also will need all of her social security as her retirement account isn't that great. She literally votes to make herself destitute.
It's insane. Her favorite radio program for years was Micheal Berry- thanks Mike you fuck

Just walked by TV in living room and saw on the screen crawl from CNN that Trump is throwing his own inauguration?

WTF?

Someone needs to up his meds, dope him up until Jan and wheel his ass out of office. Just insane.

Hmmm...perhaps we could film the next four years of a Trump presidency and end his second term in style.

It’s more like Trump got knocked out in round 5 of a 10 round fight,  but stayed in the ring while the other fighter left and is now screaming that the KO never happened because the count was too fast, and is demanding that they start the next round and award him the victory when the other guy doesn’t answer the bell.

It’s more like a guy who got his ass whipped by Frank Stallone in a “celebrity” boxing match using boxing metaphors to describe an absolute coward who has 100% never been in a physical confrontation in his 70ish years on this planet.

I haven't listened to that, and I don't dispute some of their argument as listed above, but I agree with Garry Kasparov and the relationship to Putin as well. Anastasis can lob grenades at me for calling out Russia on the regular (love you, Ana, for staying true to your thoughts) but Garry has a decent take and I agree. Russia has not ever been our friend and if their increasingly aggressive stance is not a harbinger, then I don't know what is.

Kasparov is a Never Trumper, but he has his positives (at least from my naive perspective. I am going to read this earlier posted piece below when I get back from some meetings I need to see to over the noon hour.

I ask my Trump voting mom a simple question, what was Christ's most important message?
Answer: Love one another and look out for eachother.

Insanity

1. Jesus said the greatest commandment is “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.“

Trump is a kind of orange god, so QED?

2. Paul said that if he or even an angel came preaching a different gospel, they should be accursed. I feel like this would lead to emptier pews and almost completely empty pulpits, so let’s just trust in the invisible hand of the market, which has proclaimed a new and better way. I remember something about the love of money...

3. I’m surely preaching to the choir here, but anyone proclaiming Jesus’ alignment with any current or past political philosophy is entirely missing the point of His life and ministry.

A thoughtful person could absolutely apply the teachings of Jesus to governmental philosophy and come to the conclusion that socialism (whatever the word actually means anymore) is the best and most moral system. The early church operated in ways that have some similarities (and some stark differences, eg.,  if you don’t work, you don’t eat). Jesus of course preached on charity and sacrifice for one another. You could probably really squint and stretch to make a case that Jesus supported a progressive tax system (see the women who gave more out of her poverty than the wealthy in their abundance). None of it really fits neatly though.

A thoughtful person could also apply the teachings of Jesus and come to the opposite conclusion about socialism (again, I have no idea what is meant by that word anymore). This is because, as Jesus clearly stated, His kingdom was not of this world. At a certain point, fitting these teachings into governmental systems breaks down, because the teachings aren’t meant for that purpose.

This of course most strongly applies to the dominionists who are killing both the church and the county.

But... but... when we outlaw abortion and gay marriage, then we'll have aligned our laws with what God wants, and God will see to it that our nation prospers!

Yep. This is America’s fucked up future. The voters have finally been sorted by culture and geography into a tidy Us vs Them dyad. There’s very little cross-over at this point. The flight of Never Trumpers ensured that there are no remaining voices for bipartisan unity or even cooperation among the Right. That whole side of the aisle is full of culture warriors now. They are no longer beholden to principle and integrity; the ends will justify whatever means are necessary.

Unless we can depolarize this country FAST, it is in serious trouble. I said it elsewhere and I truly believe it: Biden’s win at best bought us four years to make major headway into the unfucking of America. We didn’t kill Trumpism. We just stungunned it.

The modern GOP has convinced itself that a failed state is better than a democracy with democrats in power.

Yep.  Better a failed authoritarian state run by the GOP than a democracy run by (for the moment, because it's still a democracy) democrats.

This is the inevitable conclusion of the insane and irrational viewpoint that your party is alone anointed by God, and anything that stands in the way is heresy that can and should be either ignored or destroyed.

We are dealing with a jihadist movement, in every negative sense of that word.

Win by 7 million votes and the takeaway is, "OMG THEY ARE WINNING!!!"

Good grief.

It's about Trump staying relevant and the dyad that @BrickHorn mentions above. The log splitter is being left in the log so someone else can come along and finish the job and Trump out of the WH will be lobbing comments from the cheap seats.

Well, yeah. He's going to run for president in 2024. What else would you expect him to do?

Do narcissists commit suicide?
follow up: if Trump killed himself in the White House, could you even begin to imagine the conspiracies to bloom from that, from assassination cover ups to faked death and living in South America to avoid prosecution?

I am debating whether I could live with that.  Unless something major in the way of improvement happens fairly soon, my attitude is that the sooner he offs himself, the better off the country will be.
