Oh, this isn't the place where we just post random things without support? You set the precedent pal.

At any rate, the fact that Mitt may not be a perfect or even a particularly good person doesn't mean he deserves to be treated like that.

That woman has one of the most grating voices I have ever heard. I have to give Romney a lot of credit for maintaining composure. I would have let that woman know what I really think about her.

Last I checked, they supported businesses deciding who they will serve and who they won't.

I'm a little conflicted, because I actually think it'd be great for our country in general if more politicians got treated like that. However, he shouldn't receive that treatment for the reason he did.

Al Franken was on CNN earlier this morning.  He said "I like Ted Cruz more than any other of my former colleagues and I hate Ted Cruz."  The fact that this unlikeable cunt keeps getting elected in Texas is a stain on our state.  JFC he sucks

His phone was pinging the entire interview and either Franken or the anchor said it was likely Ted Cruz and that Franken should go respond.

Yep.  And they would vote against any politician who voted for the passenger bill of rights, because it's socialist.

Well, perhaps a bit more nuanced criticism, yeah, I agree.

LOL, all y'all called him a racist and a sexist 8 years ago.

8 years ago, I thought the GOP as a whole had a problem with racism and sexism, and therefore I would rather have a dem president.  I never knew, and still don't know, or care, what's in Mitt Romney's heart.  The last four years have made crystal clear that the GOP does in fact have a massive problem with racism and sexism.

All that said, verbally abusing a passenger confined in a tin can with no where to even get away from it is wrong.  And nothing Romney has done makes me believe he's evil or treasonous or whatever, as opposed to someone who enjoyed a lot of privilege in his life and is unable to empathize with the less fortunate and has policy ideas I disagree with.

I love how they start the video after what she said, so we don't know how offensive it was, and it makes her look to be in the wrong.

Excuse me, but they frown on being hoist by their own petard.

Yep. Same with Brexit where they thought they could restrict EU citizens from doing anything in the UK while still enjoying free rein on the continent.

this is, of course, the rub in the situation. it is difficult and one's perspective on its place in polite society is clearly driven by partisan perspectives. many on this board applauded the public chastising that rand paul took on his way to his car because he is supremely unlikable and deserved it...and further mocked his recasting of the encounter as some sort of assault which was a laughable characterization.  he's a piece of shit and deserves to be mocked, he really does.  romney is what he is...a true believer corporatist conservative...a country club republican.  polished enough to avoid the clownshow bullshit of the last four years but still anything but driven by egalitarian principles.  i, of course, believe we need voices like that amongst statesmen to keep things from moving into a runaway situation in either extreme direction - but i certainly would not want his perspective to be the prevailing majority on most issues.  i will also say that even though i find mitt romney's ideals to be misguided and fairly out of touch, it did take at least some integrity on his part to commit political suicide like he has over the last two years. he could have chosen to be an opportunist like cruz/hawley and the rest of the merry band of dipshits.

that said, we scoff at this because we abhor the mob on this one because they are easy to dismiss and patronize.  because they are so pathetic and uninformed - driven by a bizarre religious-like dedication to a grifter who simply uses them to his own ends - we find their childish taunts and the ease with which their faux fervor can lead to them literally espousing quite possibly the most unamerican things imaginable like "support republicans over the constitution" to a sitting senator to be what they are...head-shakingly pitiful.

so, ultimately, is a mob good or bad?  it is a question that has persisted since the beginning of social cooperation...that ultimately exposes the tension between democratic ideals and the reality of an uninformed, idiotic citizenry which leads to the embrace of technocratic perspectives.  we want our elected representatives to respect and show deference to the will of their constituents.  but...do we?  my preference is to not let the overwhelming majority perspective of the texas 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 36th district citizenry have any fucking say over my life whatsoever.  on the other hand, senators like ted cruz have hidden behind high walls and mocked the populace for a while with no consequence...we would all be very satisfied watching his public humiliation and ruin...and to be held accountable by his constituents because he is genuinely a bad person.  mobs have lead to the overthrow of monarchies and aristocratic chokeholds on society.  hooray french and american revolutions.  mobs have led to the rise of fascism and attempted extermination of an entire group of human beings.

a conflict and tension that has and will exist forever in any type of western democracy of size and diversity.

C'mon Mitt! Did you forget you were flying from fucking Utah to DC the day before the fucking MAGA rally? What did you expect? Did you forget that you're worth 100's of millions of dollars? Did you forget they have private planes that aren't stuffed with mouthbreathers who hate you because you are an actual conservative? This one is on Mitt.

Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski and maybe Susan Collins are 3 Republicans who could go indie and still win their next races by double digits.

Put up or shut up.  Especially you, Lisa.  You already ran and won as a fucking write-in (not even on the ballot).

The mobs, regardless of ideology, are a symptom of democratic institutional failure in society IMO.  Whether it be the media/disinformation, an unjust justice system, or design flaws, when we can no longer settle differences amicably there is likely something structurally broken.

Fuck Mitt Romney. He's not a great guy. He looks out for Mitt first. As the most recent nominee for president prior to Trump he was better positioned to push back against Trump from the beginning, but chose to straddle the fence for his own political well being.

He doesn't need the gig. He's got plenty of money from his time in the private equity world putting people out of work to line his own pockets. He was smart enough to know that Trump as president would end in horrific fashion, but played right along. While I'd rather all Americans treat each other with more dignity, I find it hard to give a shit that Mitt Romney is getting the business end of the "Face Eating Leopard Party"

In summary, Fuck Mitt.

This is a bit of a tangent but we're already on one, but after my last post I started thinking about how it's actually fairly common in the UK to see their politicians just out and about and getting yelled at, and they've still got Boris Johnson and a ton of other shitbags doing their thing. So while I would like to believe that the people yelling at guys like Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley and maybe occasionally pelting them with rotten produce might make them behave better, that theory is at least complicated by an example where that's clearly not the case.

On another tangent, how the hell are the British so much less deferential to public officials than we are? It seems like we've replicated their old feudal social construct while they still literally have a monarch but have largely abandoned that social construct.
