Nightmare Civil War 2.0 Scenarios

I started to write mine, but I found myself going too deep into a rabbithole, and I don't want to preach this. I want to kind of wargame it on here. What form do you think the death of American democracy would take? How do you think it would be accomplished? Do you think the time is ripe now, or not? If you think it is, how do we take steps to avoid it?

I'll admit I am a sunshine pumper on this topic, but I'd love to see the ledge crowd lay it out. And I have my own concerns; believe me, I do not believe we are in tranquil waters as a nation right now.

One thing that has me newly alarmed: Alex Jones is trying to portray the military as both "woke" and led by Blacks and saying that they are going to come for urrr gunnnzzz on Biden's command. Living out here in redneck country, this seems a potent message. He is vilifying generals Honore and Austin as Black tools of Biden's agenda, and he basically called Milley a pussy and Mattis a homo. (Because he's not married and reads books.)

When you add race to the gun fixation to a general breakdown of belief in basic functions of a democracy, trouble is afoot.

It's happening now. A slow death by more, and more fed. gov't control, and a slow slide into more socialism. It's going to happen just as many people have predicted it would.

Alex Jones ?  Seriously, anything he says is only good for the bat shit comedic quality it brings.

Best case scenario we find some other country to hate. We have nothing to occupy our national consciousness and natural competitiveness.   We need Canada to start murdering Blue Jays and Raptors or Icelanders to sweep with threshing oar whose only goal will be the western shore.  No one to hate, we hate ourselves.  We almost got lucky with China during COVID but the case for intentional release was too weak.

Not even! He didn't even have the decency to bring up the latest overly broad, non-specific fear mongering from the right wing outrage creators. Just lazy.

Every time I start thinking someone else might be the dumbest poster on surly, you come and post shit like this. I respect your dedication to your craft.

We will not descend into civil war. We are too interconnected. It’s far more likely we just continue sliding into failed state status and continue trending toward looking like Mexico or Brazil. If it came to a breakup, I don’t think the two sides see each other really worth fighting for. It would just end up three countries - the northeast, the west/southwest, and in between. Sorry Chicago/Minnesota.

Hey man, this is onboard you’re talking about. This man has standards. He didn’t hear completely unsubstantiated horseshit on FOX and run with it. He heard it on talk radio, as is tradition. Get it right.

He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, The Traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the Third Reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick Supplicants, they chose a new form for him - that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of The Slor that day, I can tell you.

I am shocked this wasn’t posted by the CaneCutter dude.

My nightmare scenario: GOP takes the House in 2022, with a large contingent of MAGA / Q dolts assuming office. They spend two years launching stupid witch hunts, targeting Hunter Biden and Tom Hanks and Fauci.

In 2024, the election is marred by violence. Polling locations and county offices are surrounded by mobs of yokels armed with AR15s and yelling about Luciferian pedophiles, claiming to “protect democracy” while they slam on windows  and intimidate election officials. The election is razor thin in several key precincts and states, and the GOP challenges every one. Many such districts are run by rightwing nuts, and they refuse to certify based on crazy rumors and innuendo. The House throws out the vote counts in key states and elects the GOP candidate, who is either Trump or some more competent fascist asshole.

After this there would be an uprising.  The second part of your post wouldn't occur.  The above is all too likely though.

Most people in this country want more socialism for the common man and less socialism for the rich and corporations.

If the concern is slipping into communism, it seems like the continuing right wing destabilization and culture war garbage creates a fertile environment for something like that. You generally don’t go from healthy government and culture to communist re-education camps. Remember Trump signing the stimulus checks?

To answer the OP, the next 4ish years will be touch and go. Hopefully prosperity wins out. I could also see the 1/6 folks going to prison ending up with some kind of politicized gang situation. Think a white MS-13 without any real business interests.

Uprising by whom? If the GOP takes power and does it by purportedly constitutional means, they will control the military. They also control the most violent, organized grassroots political goon squads. Who steps up to overthrow them, and how would such an uprising result in anything other than a swift and decisive victory for the state?

Go fucking jerk off to thoughts of your orange god fucking his plastic daughter.

Maybe shove some "fake ballots" up your ass so you can get off quicker.

What exactly is more fed govt control?  All I see is more state control in GOP led states.

One of the funniest things about the conservatives on this site is how much receiving neg rep bothers them. I will neg any fucking post of yours that is bullshit, and that just happens to be most. In fact, I even just gave @immamac tree-fiddy just to make sure I won't run out of negs for the garbage that extends from your fingertips.

i confess i gave him pos rep...but only bc i literally laughed out loud when i read his post...i thought it was a bit! then i noticed who it was...but it was still unintentionally hilarious 😄 i let him keep the rep lol.

So with hundreds of their brethren in jail, facing charges, losing jobs and businesses, etc., with Trump having spent the better part of 2020 telling them the election would be stolen, and then Trump spending the last 7 months or so telling them that the election was stolen and that Biden is a puppet of China, it's only now in late June of 2021 that they are coming around to talking about a civil war if he's not "reinstated".

That's some first class laziness.  That's getting around to finally using condoms after your girlfriend has been pregnant for months.

I have a sis-in-law and her bf that are qanon nuts.

You don't really know what absurdity is.

You think you do, and you can read about it, sure, but until you are looking somebody in the eyes as they tell you about how chemtrails are a means of spreading mind-controlling chemicals to the American public, or looking them in the eyes as they tell you that Donald Trump had to let Joe Biden steal the election and be sworn in before he could have the military arrest Biden, you really don't know what absurdity is when it comes to politics.  And yes, that is mental illness mixed in - I have yet to encounter any qanon type who wasn't mentally ill.

What you are talking about is political theater intended to placate, or even please, one man because he managed to corral a bunch of scared people and weaponize their votes.

Sorry, I'm not going to step out on the ledge.  Trump cost the GOP the House, the Senate, and the White House, and he is doing everything he can to drain their coffers and funnel it into his properties. He is wrecking the GOP not because he's trying to purge it due to some master plan for taking everything over, but because he is a vain, vindictive little shit who can't stand the thought that somebody who is on his team spoke out against him.  While he is not loyal to those around him, he has come to believe over the decades that everybody should be 100% loyal to him, because he has an image to protect and project.  If you told him that his vendettas against Republicans that spoke out against him would keep the GOP from retaking the Senate or House in 2022, he would not give any shits, and would see them retaining their minority status as appropriate for a party that was not 100% in support of him.

I will play this scary game. I think that a true national level event is likely to start at the national level. There are many obstacles, not least the unified executive command of the armed forces and “power” departments and agencies. Geographical distance makes it hard for civil unrest to unite and truly spread. Civil wars rarely break out due to generalized unrest, there are inflection points and almost always an alternate source of authority laying claim to legitimacy. I believe a real armed conflict here would break out at the state or regional level, provoked by a real or created Constitutional crisis. Try this script:

In Arizona, a GOP incumbent narrowly loses the governorship to a D challenger. He reaches deep into the DJT bag of tricks and proclaims the election stolen. Cases wind through the court system, with no fraud found. Two weeks before the election, he declares the decisions corrupt and invalid and announces he will refuse to leave the mansion. He is backed up by the GOP state lege. His challenger, wary of provoking violence, sets up an alternate office and begins making appointments. Peaceful protesters surround the capital, but the sitting governor refrains from calling out the National Guard and a tense stand-off begins with protesters and state police.

GOP Congressmen, Senators, and Governors egged on by Fox and DJT, line up behind the incumbent. A democratic president cautiously declares that the challenger has won the state and that the Federal government will work with her as of Inauguration Day in Arizona.

Florida’s GOP governor tweets a blistering attack on the President and accuses him of violating the Constitution and demands his resignation. He also offers the Arizona incumbent any support he needs from Florida. An angry crowd gathers at the Florida statehouse to demand the departure of the governor. As tensions rise, the governor orders state police to open fire if protesters advance too far. It happens— and largely black and Hispanic protesters die.

Riots spread across Florida’s cities. A police station in Miami is overrun and police officers killed. The governor deploys the National Guard to restore order and support police. Riots spread to other GOP states as governors express support, those governors also deploy the Guard. The President orders National Guard units to their barracks and to stay out of current domestic unrest. But not before a unit in Atlanta loses several soldiers in conflict with angry protesters trying to take over a police precinct. Several protesters are killed in Atlanta, police lose all restraint in Dallas and Nashville.  Opinion hardens within some Guard units and even some TAGS, who set up “mobile barracks” in key areas and order the Guard to protect key buildings and civilian areas without rioting.

Inauguration Day in Arizona, where rioting has been present but not out of control. The President announces he is deploying active duty forces to install the new governor and restore order. He also gives all National Guard units in other states a deadline to return to their actual barracks. The deadline passes. The President, still trying to turn down the heat, sends lightly armed active duty MPs to demand NG forces in “mobile barracks” to hand over their arms and allow federal forces to restore order.

In Little Rock, a NG unit under the command of a hard-core GOP supporter refuses and opens fire. After an unfair fight, the active duty MPs retreat but not before extensive loss of life on both sides. The Arkansas governor announces that Arkansas no longer recognizes the federal government as legitimate. Multiple GOP Allies follow, as does the Congressional freedom congress. Governors in “protesting” states call on all active duty service members who believe in the Constitution to join their state Guard units……..Protesting governors issue the “Little Rock Declaration” and the establishment of the Constitutional States of America……

I don't think any of us on the ledge disagree with this. We're worried that given the GOP's natural electoral advantages and their penchant for cheating, they'll still "win" regardless. And if Trump dies of diarrhea tomorrow, his base will find a new leader and continue radicalizing. Trump is as much a symptom as he is a cause of the problem.

956's scenario is almost certainly NOT what will happen.  Not because it is particularly unlikely, but rather because there are 100,000 alternate scenarios that look a lot like it, but differ in some crucial aspect or another.  But that TYPE of scenario is absolutely what the risk is here.

Is it the MOST LIKELY outcome?  No.  Is the risk of it happening unacceptably high?  Yep.
