On Friday, Nov. 7 three high-ranking Disney executives, Disney Entertainment co-chairmen Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, along with ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro, issued a memo to employees regarding its standoff with YouTube TV.

“Rather than compete on a level playing field, Google’s YouTube TV has approached these negotiations as if it were the only player in the game,” the memo, obtained by The Athletic's Andrew Marchand and Dan Shanoff, read. “It goes without saying that the reason so many consumers value our programming above others is because we invest in the best talent, creators and content in the world, and we cannot allow anyone to undercut our ability to do so.”

The memo comes after YouTube TV announced on Oct. 30 its plans to remove Disney's ABC and ESPN from its platform after the two sides failed to agree to a new carriage rights deal.

Was nbc willing to exit because they had peacock ready, or did they develop peacock in response to Disney taking over Hulu?

If memory serves, it was set up that way when Disney, NBC and Fox agreed to create Hulu together. Disney held the option to purchase because they had the most valuable IP. NBC wanted the $ to walk away.

My attitude may change, but for now, YTTV/Google/Disney/FOX/Hulu/Sling/The SEC/The Big 10/The Big 12/The UT Athletic Department/college football in general/ and whatever else is relevant can all just go get fucked in their own goat asses. I’ll find something different to do with with my time and energy.

What a bizarre way to quantify ticket price trends. Take the BYU Tech game for example, I would guess that is one of the more expensive games to hit lubbuck in a few years. This morning's seatgeek pricing.

I wish there was a way to perfectly sync Craig way with the tv broadcast

I had to listen to the Vandy game on Sirius and they kept playing an ad for this company, I think: https://www.sportsyncradio.com/ or it may be this one: https://www.learfield.com/sync-my-game/

You can also use the LHN, I Heart Radio, or the TunIn apps, pause the game until the broadcast catches up but apparently the two websites above do it automatically. I haven't tried any but seems like a neat concept.

Agreed, the perfect broadcast for me of a college football game is the all 22 with no commentators and only game/crowd noise.

Just run the down and distance in the bottom,  which players have subbed in and out and go from there.

Get rid of the "news" shows, fuck Greenberg, and give me games and you can mix in the occasional 30 for 30.

Always have wondered how Disney's purchase of Hulu (can't remember if that was 2019 or 2021) was allowed to go through as this has been where it has been heading since that acquisition.

welcome to late stage capitalism and the great enshittification

did it begin with the nixon nuke on bretton woods in '71?  reaganomic deregulation?  graham-leach-bliley in '99?  citizens united in '10?

the race to the bottom began round about when many of us on this board were born or growing up

a very very small number of "big M&A" deals have been nixed in this century, notably comcast/timewarner and at&t/tmobile.....

microsoft was NOT forced to break up, the original bell system breakup resulted in death stars, usair acquired aamerican regardless of the obama admin's attempts to stop it, google pays antitrust fines by handing over free data, XOM (exxon+mobil) required the 2 entities to 'divest' 2500 gas stations, but they just wrote new paper for the new storefronts (7eleven, tetco) and made MORE MONEY on the downstream without the retail overhead, the list goes on and on and on

in this particular situation, google v. disney, the culprit was the telco act of '96 which allowed broadcasters to bypass their cable distribution agreements

this was an almost 100% bipartisan catastrophe the results of which we feel today were never envisioned

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecommunications_Act_of_1996

our entire system of economic governance is corrupted by the captured reality of campaign finance and the "special interest" industry which made reversal or remediation impossible, and that was before the iphone, social, post-truth, alternative facts and the oligarchs came on the scene

i was going to quit uverse and start fighting the streaming wars earlier this year

i thank god every morning that i have nonshittified instant-on zero-fuckery linear tv that costs a fucking fortune

except like last year when disney and att went to war

Honestly, put AI of Mickey as play by play and Pluto as color. Use the voices of Samuel Jackson and AI of John Madden.

SJ- "These mother fucking lineman layin' wood opened up a hole bigger than old New Orleans whore."

JM - "Speaking of boom, that is a hole... lot of love for your running back."

SJ - "My man. Flag is down, let this mother fucker say holding one more time, I dare him"

JM - "Sometimes you just gotta reach out and touch someone Sammy."

they fired all of their expensive talent and replaced them with drones

they don't create shit - well, maybe 30 for 30 counts - and some of the football docs

inre: content investment, they don't own the content, they just pay for it, and the day is coming when we will pay every league (rights aggregators) for their content for a day, week, month or season, delivered by starlink, kuiper, eutelsat/oneweb and 1 or 2 others resulting from the mergers of the legacy geostationary operators

disney's career as a serial rapist has a limited lifespan

but for now we suffer

Fuck all of this shit.

Signed up with Fubo.

If YTTV doesn’t get resolved I will cancel them.

I just want to watch football and I don’t give a shit what it costs or who the money goes to.

I just want to watch the fucking games.

If they’d lose the talk shows they’d have room for the bowling and tractor pulls that they grew up airing.

and fubo’s cable news lineup per tier pisses me off even though I don’t watch them outside of a large event taking place.

More importantly, bring the World's Strongest Man Competition back home as well as the lumberjack games.

Better yet, throwing axes at Greenberg and Pasan and someone please drop an atlas stone on that arsehole in the wife beater.

All of the streaming services suck, eventually.  They are good for a little bit of their existence and then the price increases and consolidation and cost cutting doom them all.  Fuck everybody, man.

Take me back to when it was just pre game shows, sportscenter at different times, and overnight filled with strong men comps and people cutting logs.

I am sticking with YTTV for now. FTR, when I went to 'Manage' my subscription, they had a CTA for a $10.00/mos coupon so my rate is back to $79.00 from the rate update they just made.

Fuck Disney, and I fell for the FUBO trial for Vandy game, but I had Sling in suspend since the Spectrum/Disney spat, so I will check out day- weekend pass for next weekend.

I will bait mouse with peanut butter and deliver me from that evil. I feel YTTV and OTA is like Napster or Limewire right now. Will figure out ways around them.

That first sentence was unnecessary given the second sentence.  And with all those services, you still can't watch the game (either Spectrum or Uverse is for cable or kids cable and you can use the ESPN app).

I fucking hate AT&T but I'm glad I decided against switching to You Tube TV (from Uverse) before the season because I just knew shit like this was gonna happen. FYI, Uverse picture is so bad now that I end up streaming everything anyway because it's a night-and-day difference. Summary: fuck all of these greedy bastards. Can't anything just be simple for once in our goddamn lives?

Nope. The 90s / oughts were the best we're ever gonna see.

Honestly, the $5 to SlingTV, which isn't Mouse-owned, on game day plus an antenna if required seems like the best/cheapest legal solution.  YoutubeTV will kick a little money our way for each month it's off the table (they usually do), and it goes okay for the consumer.  Yeah, it's a pain in the ass, but whatayagonnado?

Yeah sling day pass on Saturdays is $6-7 plus OTA for ABC. It’s the way to go, for now, heck maybe permanently. Wanna watch a game? Pay $6-7 and no more. Go 6 days not watching anything don’t have to pay for it.

I believe current legal thought is that it is illegal to rebroadcast copyrighted content, and its illegal to download copyrighted content, but its not illegal to simply view streaming content if you are not making money (like a bar showing a game). A VPN is a good idea doing anything on the internet these days, but I would definitely recommend a VPN whether accessing streams directly or using these unlicensed IPTV providers like apollo. While it rarely happens, your ISP could theoretically cut you off if they give a shit that you are accessing unlicensed streams. Using a VPN would minimize that risk.

Yeah, one of the primary rights provided by copyright is the exclusive right to reproduce a copyrighted work.  Unlike downloading content, which could get you in trouble with your ISP and with rights owners, viewing a stream doesn't involve the reproduction right.

If you are saving streams, you're reproducing.  If you're re-streaming, you're violating the exclusive right to distribute copyrighted work.

ISPs cut off downloaders, because if they didn't after acquiring knowledge of extensive infringement, the rights owners would sue them for contributory infringement, having provided the instrumentality for the downloaders to infringe.

I'm not sure any theory of contributory infringement could apply to viewers of illegal streams, or to the ISPs that "allow" them to.

So i did fubo trial last weekend. I thought it sucked BUT i used duck duck go to generate a bullshit email address that gets forwarded to my real email and generated a new virtual cc number just to see if i could get the trial again and it worked.  So that's going to be my solution and those cunts at Disney aren't getting another dollar from me.

Guess it will just be unlimited 5 day trials until football season is over then fuck them all.

I'm old enough to remember when ESPN was the best thing on cable TV since scrambled porn. Now, the world will be a much better place when people stop watching them ruin sports and just let them crater into the abyss under the weight of their own arrogance.
