See, there's a problem with that line of thinking. The only copy is locked away up at the ACC. No copies outside of that facility exist. You can't view it anywhere other than at their offices, while they watch you. No video/photography allowed, and no direct quotes allowed to be written down. And that is some fucked up shit on its own, without all the shitstorm going on now.

Needless to say, FSU's lawdogs have been up there a lot to review that document, all under the careful eye of the ACC.

That's not meant as a "pro" FSU comment, simply laying out the information on what someone would have to go through to examine the contract.

You would think that the bolded words above (if true) would be a CLUE that something doesn’t smell right.

All I'm "claiming" is that per the FSU legal reps this morning, there exists no copies of the actual signed contract(s) in question. The above linked documents were even referenced as not being 100% accurate as to the actual documents which were signed.

You may dispute that, and frankly it doesn't matter. I'm not personally claiming anything, simply passing along the information I've followed on this.

Well, that and byu sucks, obviously.

There is a lot of confusion on this matter. The signed GOR contracts are available(both the original agreement in 2013 and the amended agreement in 2016). In fact, the ACC included both executed agreements as attachments in their recent lawsuit  legal filing against Florida State (attachments 2 and 8).

https://portal-nc.tylertech.cloud/Portal/DocumentViewer/Embedded/7EE579943065AF027D5BA70948F080A911BB6B71F58FB029A1018C457FB3EE340A4E594CED412BA9AC82767016D4FA81336AD1A9034421E230E5ED2C4418C09D?caseNum=23CV040918-590

What is being kept under lock and key by the ACC  is the multimedia agreement between the ACC and ESPN.

You would think that, yeah.

And what Blotto is also suggesting (it’s the media deal under guard, not the GoR) would certainly make more sense as that’s between the acc and espn (and a small popcorn fart for the CW.)

So why would so many sources, including FSU, insist otherwise? What would their goal be in doing so?

Certainly it would come out in discovery, which they did mention yesterday as one of the things they were after.

So effectively you have portions reporting one way, others reporting the opposite.

What I’m wondering at the moment is would FSU (or another member) be able to actually view the acc/espn contract, even in a controlled environment as described, if they really aren’t a signatory. Could a lawyer from  any other major conference just waltz into their conference office and read the conferences media deal? Could Texas have done that before announcing the departure?

I honestly can’t say, but I suspect probably not. If so, wouldn’t we see a lot more information out there on specific details of these contracts? Maybe not verbatim, but it seems like tidbits would leak out now and then. And by that I mean the fine print kind of shit.

So that brings us right back to where we currently sit. Some outlets say one thing, others say another. For me, I’m not going to really pay attention to non-acc outlets. At least the outliers anyway, because why would some rando have any real information on that matter?

The interesting part really isn’t what is/isn’t available. It’s what are the lasting ramifications from all this bullshit? A conference not only filing suit against a members board, but that same board filing suit on the conference as well. The potential of all of this is something not yet really seen in this context. We may all end up “finding out” and paying for it in some way, when the majority of us had no part in fucking around.

Florida and Clemson both have 3 titles and more wins than FSU.  Do either of those usually get recognized as a Blue Blood?

They are a near blueblood helmet schools but they are not a bonafide blueblood. That is a very small club.

The only bluebloods are Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and USC.

The near blueblood status is Nebraska (who was in the club but not anymore), Penn State and Tennessee (both have good number of wins but need more titles) Georgia and LSU (doing well recently) and all 3 Florida schools (who have titles and near blueblood winning percentages despite playing few games).

Florida State To Be Without At Least 14 Players In Orange Bowl Due To Opt-Outs And Transfers

image.png.7bb15870e4a83cc0a5a90c5ec2735f59.png

Story by Dustin Lewis  • 11h

There is less than a week remaining until No. 5 Florida State matches up with No. 6 Georgia in the Orange Bowl. After winning the first 13 games on its schedule and coming away victorious in the ACC Championship for the first time in nine years, the Seminoles will have a much different roster when they kick off against the Bulldogs.

Following a historic snub, Florida State has seen over 16% of its roster decide not to play in the game for a variety of reasons. The decision from the College Football Playoff Selection Committee has essentially decimated the 'Noles at a number of positions and younger players will be asked to step up on both sides of the ball.

At least 14 players across the roster won't be suiting up and that number could bump up to over 20 depending on how the next few days unfold. Obviously, star quarterback Jordan Travis is out for the remainder of the season with a leg injury. Outside of him, running back Trey Benson, wide receiver Johnny Wilson, wide receiver Keon Coleman, tight end Jaheim Bell, defensive end Jared Verse, and defensive tackle Fabien Lovett all have opted out of the game to prepare for the 2024 NFL Draft.

All seven Seminoles earned ACC honors for their performances throughout the season. Benson (906 yards, 14 TDs) led the team in rushing, Coleman (658 yards, 11 TDs) led the ACC in receiving touchdowns, and Verse (41 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 9 sacks) led the team in sacks. Wilson (617 yards, 2 TDs), Bell (503 yards, 2 TDs), and Lovett (22 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 1 sack) were all crucial parts of the team's success as well.

There have also been seven members of the roster to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal and commit to other programs. Quarterback AJ Duffy (San Diego State), running back Rodney Hill (FAMU), running back CJ Campbell (FAU), tight end Markeston Douglas (Arizona State), offensive lineman Bless Harris (TCU), offensive lineman Daughtry Richardson (FAU), and offensive lineman Qae'Shon Sapp (FAMU) have all found new homes. Duffy, Hill, Campbell, Douglas, and Harris were all on Florida State's most recently released two-deep for the conference championship against Louisville.

A couple of other scholarship players are in limbo as defensive tackle Malcolm Ray, linebacker DJ Lundy, offensive lineman Thomas Scrader, defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase, and linebacker Dylan-Brown Turner are all in the portal. Plus, Seminoles such as safety Akeem Dent, linebacker Kalen DeLoach, linebacker Tatum Bethune, cornerback Renardo Green, cornerback Fentrell Cypress II, and defensive tackle Braden Fiske haven't publicly stated if they'll play or not.

It is worth noting that the Orange Bowl schedule for press availability leading up to the game has Cypress, DeLoach, and Fiske meeting with the media on Thursday. It seems doubtful that they would be attending a press conference for the game if they didn't intend on playing against the Bulldogs.

At the minimum, 11 of the players not expected to play were listed in the two-deep on Florida State's last depth chart. That number could rise as high as 15 if some of those who are in the portal decide to sit out. The Seminoles will release their depth chart for the contest on Monday - Christmas Day.

On the other side, Georgia has had 19 players enter the portal with the most significant loss being starting linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson. There have been other members of the two-deep to move on such as cornerback AJ Harris, cornerback Nylan Green, outside linebacker Marvin Jones Jr, linebacker Xavian Sorey, linebacker Darris Smith, linebacker CJ Madden, defensive tackle Jonathan Jefferson, wide receiver Jackson Meeks, wide receiver Zeed Haynes, offensive lineman Aliou Bah, offensive lineman Austin Blaske, and quarterback Brock Vandagriff.

Bulldogs starting quarterback Carson Beck previously announced he was playing in the contest while grappling with the possibility of going pro. Star tight end Brock Bowers has been non-committal thus far. No one from Georgia's roster has publicly opted out to prepare for the draft.

Florida State and Georgia will meet in the Orange Bowl on Saturday, December 30. The contest will kick off at 4:00 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.

Yeah, no one wants to hear Georgia play the world's smallest violin. They made their out of conference schedule with the inherent knowledge that winning the SEC with anything less than 2 losses gets them in, no questions asked, so why take the risk. They essentially created their own one game season and lost. Sorry, not sorry.

We had OU scheduled in Norman and the SEc canceled it. So we made our non conference schedule with two P5 programs on it, unlike most other SEC teams. And we do that every year.

I really don't understand this. They are #3 in the coaches poll, behind Michigan and Washington. If they beat Georgia and Michigan and Washington lose, they would have a split title.

But instead of going for that, half their team quits and they throw a giant temper tantrum over a system that will cease to exist in a few days? I guess that's a choice.

Backup QB leaving - won't play in bowl game

The final couple of games on Florida State's schedule have been a whirlwind. From losing Jordan Travis in the home finale, to Brock Glenn taking over for Tate Rodemaker in the ACC Championship, and now the upcoming Orange Bowl where the roster will look like a shell of itself due to NFL declarations and opt-outs.

The Seminoles didn't get a break on Christmas Day as the team flew to South Florida to begin their final game week of the 2023 season. One player was noticeably absent from the trip as Tate Rodemaker departed from Florida State to enter the transfer portal and won't play against the Bulldogs.

Upon arriving in Fort Lauderdale, head coach Mike Norvell discussed Rodemaker's decision while highlighting true freshman Brock Glenn, who will make his second career start on Saturday.

“Life is full of choices and the opportunity that we have now, Brock [Glenn] who started the [ACC] championship game for us is going to be the starter here for the Orange Bowl," Norvell said on Monday night.

8aiiue.gif.a850312cc4abe9b26782d3518d24153e.gif

"Definitely excited to see him take the step from his first start to his second start."

The Seminoles have had multiple starters on both sides of the ball decide not to suit up for the contest. Norvell says that hasn't deterred the remaining members of the team as Florida State pushes to close its season with an undefeated record for the first time in a decade.

“Well I mean the guys are excited about the opportunity to compete and that's what we what we have, and doing it against a great opponent, one that has been the benchmark of the best of college football the last three years and ultimately that's what we have in front of us," Norvell said. "We've had really good bowl practices leading up and I'm excited to see the guys prepare. There’s an opportunity there for Saturday to go and push to be our best."

In total, FSU has had seven players declare for the NFL Draft and 14 enter the transfer portal. The names out of the lineup against the Bulldogs include Rodemaker, Trey Benson, Rodney Hill, Keon Coleman, Johnny Wilson, Jaheim Bell, Markeston Douglas, Bless Harris, Jared Verse, Fabien Lovett, DJ Lundy, and Akeem Dent.

There's no doubt that the Seminoles are going through a significant roster transformation but they've still got to face off against the Bulldogs.

“It’s about the players that are here and the work that they put in. I’m grateful for every player that we have," Norvell said. "Life is full of choices and these guys, like I said the last month has been really challenging, you know coming off the championship game, a lot of emotion, guys having to make tough and challenging decisions, but the guys that are here I know were excited about it and looking forward to the week of preparation and the competition that’s ahead.”

Florida State and Georgia will conclude their seasons in the Orange Bowl on Saturday, December 30. The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.

So, whether FSU deserves to be in the CFP or not, Norvell did seem to have them on the upswing for sure.

But all these departures don't seem to bode well for their prospects next year.

Compare, us, for example.  I'd be highly discouraged if Sark had these kind of departures on his hands.

I agree, but this new CFB landscape is ever evolving and cyclical. The future of CFB as we know it will look completely different in 10 years, imo.

Florida has been playing football since 1911. FSU's program began in 1954. Florida was 16-2-1 in the first 19 H2H meetings. Since 1977, the Seminoles are 26-21-1 against the Gators. FSU also had that ridiculous streak of top-5 finishes under Bowden, something Florida has NEVER come close to achieving. FSU is "new money" but give me the Noles over the Gators when we're talking about who has been the better football program historically.

Despite the 43-year head start for the Gators, here's an interesting look at the two programs:

  • Both teams have three national championships -- FSU won their first title before Florida
  • FSU has played in more bowl games, 49-48 and is 29-17-2 in bowl games (Florida is 24-24)
  • FSU has 16 conference championships, Florida has nine
  • FSU's career winning percentage is .679 vs Florida's .623
  • FSU's all-time SRS rating at College Football Reference is 10.89 vs Florida's 8.90
  • FSU has finished in the AP poll 34 times (will be 35 this season); Florida has 34
  • FSU has been ranked #1 for 72 weeks; Florida has 41
  • Both programs have three Heisman winners

Not really a lot different than our back up QB quitting on us with a chance to win a National Championship after starting and winning two regular season games.

Actually, it is kinda different. There was a tweet last week about Arch being able to run the entire offense.

If you read between the lines, he’s surpassed MM on the depth chart. That being the case, it would be similar to FSU’s 3rd string leaving.

FSU also has 11 more consensus AAs and almost as many weeks ranked in the AP all time.

Also Florida has been largely irrelevant for almost 15 years now. But we all knew that already.

From all current appearances it looks like they’ve handled it as best they could. Never making such a statement publicly, or letting something slip out like that. Simply a note about him entering the portal, everybody wishes everyone well, and amicably part.
