Early stages of him rebranding the party with his name.  It was only a matter of time, as he can’t help himself.

he will also start calling it the Trump ballroom, and eventually claim he has done enough remodeling of the property that it’s the trump White House.

I assure you, that’s NOT the problem that Epstein Republicans are concerned about.

Yeah, that’s just a “foreigners, don’t come to the US at all” measure. Might as well start charging a flat $500 tourist visa fee to even fly here.
It’s just utterly psychotic xenophobic shit for the sake of being xenophobic. Why do we hate non-Americans? Because they aren’t Americans, full stop.

complete anecdotal evidence, but while on a recent vacation I was at a national forest during a workday. Based on accents that I heard, I would have to guess that ~50% of the visitors that morning were not Americans. My guess is that we will see the following:

  • Trump will claim this will generate X additional dollars. He will take the estimated annual foreign park visitors and multiply that by $100 or $250.
  • Perhaps declare a possible "F the Foreigners" check to all Americans
  • Never discuss how total park revenue will eventually drop by a large percentage as non-Americans are staying home. Definitely ignored will be the local impact to hotels, restaurants, etc.

Umm... You referring to this?
Tourist visa fees
  • Visa Integrity Fee: A new $250 fee is being added to the standard application fee, making the total $435
  • Visa Issuance Fee: Some nationalities may need to pay an additional visa issuance fee after approval.

Yeah…that shit. And we’ll probably be killing reciprocity fee waivers/reductions for European countries soon as well.
Because we need to create Fortress America, nobody gets in or out.
There’s not an aspect of totalitarian states that we AREN’T aiming to emulate.

This. We won’t collect that revenue. They’ll just stop coming.
And I recall on our summer trip to the Yosemite valley floor like 10+ years ago, it was full of buses of Chinese tourists. Take those out of the mix, and revenue would go way down.

To be fair, they’re just not concerned about it right now. Rest assured, they’ll be champions of the exploited again if the winds’ direction changes and they receive different marching orders. You unfairly misrepresent the nuance in child sex trafficking.

As someone who lived a few years at one of the overnight points for many tour buses, there is an enormous foreign visitor population all season long. Especially Chinese and Korean.  Companies there sell these packages that include the busses with predetermined stops in the park, and lodging, plus the airfare.

no idea if this will kill that or if they will just absorb and pay it, at least for YNP.

Of course when park revenue drops and the fed govt is asked to provide more funding to keep the lights on, the MAGA business opportunists will point that it's another reason that national parks should be sold off to private interests who can better manage them. Which also means selling off to more industry interests and give the more scenic areas to billionaires.

What pisses me off is the countries that are exempt. Well their businesses, and citizens, are better placed to pay this fee. Those that are not, and we do a lot of trade with them, do not. I am talking Latin America (think Brazil/Mexico), Eastern Europe, Muslim countries, etc. Only non-White nations I saw on the exemption list are Japan and South Korea.

As someone who travels internationally on the reg, I'm now concerned about a "fuck the Americans" tax being applied in those places.  I suppose it's a double win for the admin - keep people like me from getting exposed to dangerous outside ideas by making it economically disadvantageous to travel and keeping out them danged furriners.

Oh, this is absolutely part of the play.

Every single asset of "we the people" is aimed to be transferred to the private hands of TrumpCo and his cronies.  Every.  Single.  One.

Interesting conversation from The Bulwark podcast I just listened to. This is regarding Trump's failing health and at what point the cabinet should consider the 25th Amendment.

Their conclusion was that they were more likely to "Weekend at Bernie's" the situation rather than replace him, but the REASON was surprising.

About half of the cabinet cannot stand JD Vance and actually want to position themselves to be the heir apparent to lead the GOP and run for the White House. So they have no interest in elevating the competition to the post in any scenario. They mentioned people like Rubio and I think Noem (might have been someone else) who are in this group.

I think that fear of MAGA is still part of the calculus, but I think a lot of us felt that Trump picked these people because they wouldn't 25th him out of loyalty when in reality they just want to cock block Vance.

What a dysfunctional mess.

Why do they keep on with this after it's been thoroughly debunked so many times?

Because they have no shame and no one gives a shit? Hell, just say Thanksgiving is now free. No one will care.

Partially.  I just still can't believe some parts of this timeline though.  I'm watching Back to the Future 2 right now and I'm pretty sure that movie has come to life somehow.

$55. To feed 10 people a Thanksgiving dinner. Total.

If you skip the caviar and the truffles, you can do it. Also, whoever started that stupid “we must have gravy” thing needs to be shot.  God’s ketchup is in everyone’s refrigerator and close to free.

Looks to me like the Biden admin had it under control and moving the right direction by last fall. But maybe that was price adjusting solely based on the election result 3 weeks previous as retailers panicked at the thought of dealing with Trump and stopped gauging overnight.

No oysters. For $55 you’ll eat the tofu dressing and like it.  Once you put the bread in the toaster before cubing, most people won’t notice the mold color after.

just like hedgehog's negative situational awareness of mirrors, the regime's non-USian upcharge on the NPS annual pass was conceived in a dish of sulphur and water

sure, they can upcharge international purchases of the pass, but the pass is for non-commercial vehicles with up to 4 adults and unlimited children under 15

at every park entrance station, when you pull up to the kiosk, you show your pass, and you are waived through

so these dipshits without thinking it through have created a situation where either

- proof of citizenship for all occupants must be presented for park entry, multiplying the delay to enter a park by a factor of 1000,

OR

- non-USians will simply have someone in the US buy the pass for them

fucking imbeciles
