How many acts total?

You may want to space (haha) it out a bit so people can discuss who would win in a battle between the Star Wars and Star Trek universes.

For the record, Star Trek would win. Ask me why.

Not nearly as funny of a wrong link situation as NowThis.

Everybody has their kink. I mean having your wife strap one on isn’t as weird as some other shit that’s out there, it’s not like he wanted to wear his bowling shoes too.

This seems to null all housing vouchers and HUD payments. So mass homelessness - cool!

Wonder what group gets to appoint these appointees?

The memo also makes clear that oversight of each federal assistance program will be assigned to “a senior political appointee to ensure Federal financial assistance conforms to Administrative priorities.”

ThE DoTArD not giving them FEMA money for the wildfires would be the start of that. Then California stops sending income tax and other money to the Feds, Feds start pulling out military and fed leo, California's Senators are expelled from the Senate on and on and on.

US economy crumbles even worse than it already is.

And then I move to California, if they'll take me.

Maybe so, but it's definitely either happened already or will very soon as far as "Latinos for Trump" members getting rounded up to be deported is concerned

This isn't really specific to the most recent election, as this guy has been going through it for years.  It really breaks my heart, honestly.

Wrestled w/ him in high school.  Good dude, but dumb as a rock.  Never expected him to go to college and be a doctor or anything like that - figured he would end up working Parks and Rec somewhere within 50 miles of HS.  Went into the Navy for a couple of years, got out and went into the Army after a couple of years as a civilian.  Involved in a training accident that eventually cost him both his legs, above the knee.  He's been in VA hell for the last 15+ years w/ them giving him the runaround, and him not having the mental capacity to understand what's happening or the ability to navigate the system.  I know enough about his situation to follow from a distance, but not the details, so don't come at me w/ some gotcha shit about how he could have helped himself - I'm not him.

He has moved from NH to SC to GA trying to be near the right VA hospital.  He settled in Frisco and is now married to a full-on MAGAT w/ a disabled kid that needs 24/7 care.  I have suspicions that she is with him as a way to access his gov money, but it's not like dude is getting a mint, so maybe that's just my biases.  Shortly after their marriage, I unfollowed him on FB because of her posting and tagging him in all her propaganda BS.  This is from last week - N is her son, who is developmentally disabled and in a wheelchair.  Like, wtf?

image.thumb.png.f52d4f7091184bc8c1494dae3f111cf3.png

Last night, I got a DM from him letting me know he's coming to Austin next week and wants to meet up.  I want to see him just to be a human and a friend from HS and show him love, but there's no fucking way I could be in the same room w/ that woman.  Don't get me wrong, he's dead red himself, but he doesn't (or at least didn't) live in that MAGA blinded world.  But I have a ton of Trumpy friends and can work around their bullshit for a couple of hours socially, so long as we focus on sports or reliving the past or whatever.  I respond that it's going to be tough for me to meet up, but hopefully we can make it happen, and ask why he's coming to Austin.  His response:

So, the best states are True Blue?  No way!  Kinda feel like him and his wheelchair are being used for props.  Guy is going to leave thinking he's done his part to help, and he will have, but it will be for naught.  His efforts won't help, and the situation won't change.

Yeah, no fucking way Texas ever gets out of the bottom 50 in the union.

The latest EO seems to be begging for a court battle to rule the Impoundment Control Act unconstitutional. Congress would serve no purpose whatsoever if the president gets to decide how and when federal money is spent.

What's the simplified version of how states are determined to owe the federal governemnt. For example, if California passed a law that said they were legally required to build and maintain a 500 billion dollar fund for natural disaster relief, does that mean they can stop sending federal money to the United States every year until they have that slush fund? I'm sure there are ways California can skirt having to pay the federal government what they pay, but honestly I have no fucking clue.

Enlighten me, Surl.

Pretty much exactly.

I think the constitutional argument goes like this.  ICA violates separation of powers because of the take care clause, which reserves enforcement to the executive, and spending of funds is included within enforcement.

On the other side, spending/appropriations are reserved to Congress, and the House specifically.  And the president already has veto power as a check on spending.  And, prior to ICA, SCOTUS affirmed a congressional limitation in appropriations legislation on executive impoundment in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Train_v._City_of_New_York.

So, we know how this should go.  That doesn't mean that's how it will go.

When I was a poly psi major at Florida in the 70s, one professor of mine was an expert on impoundment and flew several times to Washington to be questioned by Congress on different issues. He lorded his importance over the class.   Once that was no longer a permissible thing (SCOTUS ruling in theTrain case) he once again became just a sad little Poly-sci professor with a worn wool coat, bowtie and ubiquitous pipe.

Actually, I should not be so mean to him.  Knowing that he did not keep his finals papers, I waited until the last day to challenge a grade and got him to give me a B instead of a C in a five hour course, which kept me from being expelled for academic reasons.  Having achieved that feat I got the fuck out of engineering and leapt into the warm embrace of political science.

Well all of this will surely help with my application for public service loan forgiveness that's been pending since May of 2024.

That loan forgiveness was going to be decliend just becuase you live in Commiefornia. You know that, man. Best case is it remains pending till 2030 or so, and we still have a functioning democracy.

If you begin with the assumption that he is an asset/puppet of a antagonistic, foreign power, it all makes more sense.

I think it's even simpler than that. He's a grifter, wants money, more of it. He's also a whiny titty baby narcissist that desperately craves affirmation and attention. POTUS serves both purposes and at every juncture those are are his two motivations - create a loyal following and grift for as much money as he can make. if that means traitorous dealings with foreign governments, so be it.

Since know how it should go, we know the opposite will happen. Train did nothing more than interpret a statute. Even if state decides was a real thing anymore, there’s no need to dance around it to declare the ICA unconstitutional. Train address the ICA or even mention the Constitution.
