Just makes me sick to my stomach. My kids have gone to La Junta and Longhorn over the years and I just cannot imagine what these families are going through.

You are prepared for a broken bone or an ear infection during camp but your child being swept away by floods in middle of night is just beyond the pale.

These poor kids.

In July too like that’s supposed to be impossible.

There is absolutely no more worthless group in a situation like this than the Red Cross.  They literally made things worse in Wimberley.

If you're going to donate money to the relief efforts, PLEASE do not donate to the red cross.

We learned this with Rita

Drinking now. Here’s a pic of homesick jr and myself escaping Harvey. We’re standing on a “mini-dam, on the river property where the two houses out of view are now no longer standing. If this picture was taken right now, we’d be an easy 18-22 feet under water. The entrance to Camp La Junta is literally about 500 yards behind us.

Seeing on Reddit from people in the area (not officially confirmed) that they’re down to 10 campers and 2 counselors missing. The rest are alive and accounted for, several had to be rescued. One poster is claiming a dam broke up in Ingram and washed away his campsite.

Out at LBJ, the flood gates are open and the water level has dropped a few inches in anticipation of the water coming down the Llano.

Here comes some water for Lake Travis...

I always think of the flood debris in the trees that inspired Driftwood’s name. Holy shit that involved a lot of water.

My wife is on a mom’s thread for my daughter’s cabin from last Mystic term.  Things are coming in fast and furious, but apparently a cluster of four girls has been spotted, is temporarily safe, and is waiting to get rescued from high ground.

That’s incredibly good news!

It’s a dam. And it broke. UGRA dam, in the center of town is the only dam down river, and that’s where the water treatment plant is. The dam after that, is the one within eyeshot from my house.

And yes, sliding down Ingram Dam is a past time. If you couldn’t do it all the way down on your feet, you were a fucking tourist.

It really is, there are still a ton of boats and jet skis on the water. Not sure what people are thinking.

Grew up very near Hunt. My high school and even most college year summer Saturday nights, we would head over to Crider’s to dance on the slab after the rodeo. Camp counselor girls rotated shifts on getting Saturday nights off so there was a different crop of city girls that thought we were good summer fun local flings. Wore the soles off several pairs of boots teaching Dallas debutants how to 2-step.  Some of my favorite moments in this life. Can’t imagine this all playing out down there. I’ll kick some Strait to my Bluetooth and send good wishes that way. Thinking about you all with kids down there. Hope good news is released soon.

You and I probably know each other. Or at least fought at Crider’s once.

6-1 185.

I am however old and rehabbing a rotator cuff so I'm out on rescue efforts  for high water but in for immediately helping once levels fall.  I can bring guys and equipment and coordinate like during Wimberly.  I can lift and chainsaw.

After Wimberly I had the best luck via Facebook and a local realtor in targeting who needed help first and completely bypassed aid groups.  Too much standing around talking for my taste. Just roll up and get to fucking work. No social media, no selfies. Just grind.

As somebody who works/worked in and around the DC not-for-profit community, I second this. They are one of the most inept organizations on earth. You are better off using actual cash to start a cooking fire.

I know it’s challenging but please wait until local verified rescue groups are on the scene to contribute money.

My wife interned with them in college and has been saying this for 25 years. People believe the ads though.

I thought I cropped myself out of the pic. Fuck. Now everyone knows that I’m Adonis.

Another C-130 just went in on final. I’m not sure if it’s not the same airplane. The ceiling is still extremely low, and I’ve heard other fixed wing planes coming in for the last hour on the reg.

Anyone with a chainsaw or a flatbed truck or one of those big flat trailers can be a superhero in Kerrville next week.

No doubt.

And anyone with a strong couple of arms and legs will be welcome as well.

It will be a massive cleanup.   See Wimberley.

Did your sister come home one hot July night with some extra fly Schottische dance moves?  If so, we may.

And I got bloodied up a few times in the dirt lot outside the fence. If that was you, I’ve still had enough.

If you have any loved ones that were at Guadalupe River State Park north of San Antonio, hopefully they have been moved away from the river by now. Just upstream at the Bergheim campgrounds the river rose from 6 feet to 36 feet in one and a half hours. That wall of water is coming into the state park soon and then will cross under HWY 281 near the town of Spring Branch before dumping into Canyon Lake later tonight.

Hawks are back up. I’m reaching out to everyone I know (trustworthy third party) folks to see if I can get any information. I’m not going to reach out to the Mystic family, because, they’re doing any and everything in their power to make sure that everyone is safe. Trust me.
My sources are firefighters and sheriffs that I know personally, who are boots on the ground.
I had to leave because I’d done all I technically could. But they thanked me for trying/helping. They’re talking to me from Hunt, Ingram, and Kerrville proper.
I can’t promise anything other than to try and get info.

You're a good man.

Thanks.

The footage of the Guadalupe is terrifying.

No kidding...was in an Air BnB on River Rd for 4 days because my son got married at a venue in Gruene/NB last Saturday and everything was absolutely perfect. Would have been literally a disaster if it was this weekend. What a difference a week makes. I feel so bad for the people impacted by this

Catastrophic flooding occurring across portions of the Texas Hill Country this July 4th. The Llano River in Llano, TX is currently (as of 5pm) flowing at over 109,000 cubic feet per second, when 5 hours ago it was about 500.

Yep. While a lot of very loud people insist that climate change is fake, the people whose jobs and lives and money depends on designing and planning for such events are doing just that.
But it’s still a bitch to predict these things in real-time.
