Right. In order for this to work, if it even can, the tariffs would have to remain predictable and stable for years and years. Possibly even decades. Business people aren't going to act on some arbitrary hand waived tariff that can go away at any moment.

If the point of the tariffs is to get companies to move here and make things here...then why the fuck are we engaged in trade deals? Wouldn't signing a bunch of trade deals make that a bad move for those companies?
Wait..what am I doing? There is nothing sane or rational about any of this.

The point of the tariffs is to stop fentanyl coming in from Canada and we’ve already saved millions of lives. And what fentanyl does get through, while unfortunate, the drug traffickers will pay big beautiful tariffs that will eventually eliminate income taxes.

In my head I imagine every single one of the negotiations are being run like this.

258 million would be dead without tariffs.

Yeah, but think of the time & money people will spend buying 2 dolls instead of 30? And as a bonus, the parents won't be up all night having to wrap those extravagant gifts! See how much better life under Dotard's rule is for all?

The big problem with your logic is that those two dolls will probably just as much as the thirty dolls have in the past. Well, unless Gina pays the tariffs. As Dear Leader has been known to say.

No. That highway doesn't go to a port.

But on I-10 and I-45? Yes.

That's one of the things that actually makes me chuckle.  These dumbfucks don't realize that the book it out -- worldwide -- on how DOTARD works, and how to play him.

He has one play:

03079f129123e5239d9c51fdbee3b789.gif

All you have to do it wait him out....because he doesn't have a "next move."  Let him beat his chest, kick up dust....all you have to do is still be standing there when the dust settles, and you have WAY more leverage than he does.

The other fucking dumb thing was declaring a trade war on THE ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD ALL AT ONCE.  If he'd perhaps just focused on China, then that offers some opportunity to carve them out from the global trade network, and use our size and strength against just them.  But now....the whole world is focusing on how to 1) maximize trade with each other, while 2) minimizing trade entanglements with the erratic, unreliable, and batshit insane USA.

Dumb.  Just fucking nuclear-blast level dumb.

A port is a port -- land-based ports of entry are still "ports."  And yeah, gotta presume that there's much less shit going to and from Mexico these days as well.  Early data (March traffic) seems to indicate as much.

I probably need to go to Sam’s and grab some of those giant bags of Starbucks espresso coffee beans.  I always grind my own beans and I think they will stay fresher longer during a possible coffee shortage.

How about Kona coffee from Hawaii? Or will demand go up and make it as expensive as tariffed imports?

15 feet high and 15 feet wide? Not sure my house could hold that.

That is max. And for coffee? Yeah, I would figure it out.

Just added it to my plant wish list. Wife has said no more plants. But this is coffee. I can get away with that one.

C. arabica 'Nana': This is a dwarf variety that only grows 12 inches tall, making it ideal to grow indoors.

How many beans are we getting per plant though?

Real Kona coffee (not the shit blended with coffees from shit hole countries) is already significantly more expensive than current tariffed coffee.

One of the more popular shirts I saw at Chinese t-shirt vendors was Obama in the chairman Mao headshot pose with OBA MAO under it. I really should have bought one.

So foreign movies are getting a 100% tariff apparently. Lots of questions.

Will that only apply to foreign film studios and the movies they produce, or will it also apply to American studios that film outside the U.S.? For instance, lots of American stuff is filmed in Canada (our trade enemy). What percentage of the film needs to be filmed domestically to avoid a tariff?

What about TV series?

What about streaming platforms? Assume for a second that TV series are included, and then take a series like Carême (a French series) on Apple+, how does that get tariffed? Perhaps they are exempt due to purchasing the series ahead of the tariff. Are there royalties or something similar involved? Does that suddenly incur a 100% tariff?

Maybe it’s all just a bunch of bullshit that never gets paid.

Given that films aren't really shipped though ordinary trade channels I'm not sure how you apply or collect a tariff.

You can but because of tradition and deferrement it is not done, services due to treaties never got tariffs based on a memorandum on the World Trade Organization (which is about to expire), one of the million plus reasons the US benefited from the status quo.

IP related service jobs, tech related service jobs, its how the US has such high salaries. We exported Disney movies and in the end got cheap manufactured goods (the only real head scratcher is that it also exported agriculture and this is the morons that voted republican and got fucked by proper tariffs)

Intellectual services jobs > manufacturing jobs > agricultural jobs (specially the way these morons vote)

We are really about to kill the golden goose.
