Careful what you wish for. Sark leaving would send the UT football program into a total mess. One that it may never escape. It would be complete nirvana for all the UT hates out there especially the national press.

"never". lulz. Yes, 40-50 years from now we will all be sitting here watching us go 2-10 yet again, cursing CDC for allowing this to happen way back in 2025 when we let Sark walk.

Great news. From 2010-2020, the only enjoyment I got from this program was the drama surrounding coach searches, PJ tracking, University presidents begging jags to come coach for us, recruiting hijinks, and Austin area hotel interior design analysis. Rarely watched the games. Had a blast.

The only way I'm alive 40-50 years from now is if someone rips the bottle out of my cold, dead fingers.

See my comment above. It’s not Texas specific. College vs nfl responsibilities.

Boosters in college sports function akin to the ownership group in the pro sports. You’re trying to make the case that there is nothing like a booster issue in the NFL and that is silly.

I’m not making the case and I’m not speculating. I’m just passing along that I know for a fact there is an aspect of the job that he doesn’t like that I guess he believes isn’t an issue at the next level. Is that causing a move? I have no idea. People always bitch about their jobs.

update:  there’s obviously a lot more going on behind the scenes. I’m not saying anything else. This is just going to have to play out .

Lol… Sark is given full autonomy here.  He’s going to have to answer to a NFL owner who is going to pick his assistants and staff, have their own gm and will pick their own players.   He’s running this program the way he wants to with the players and coaches he wants.  If his biggest gripe is that he needs to shake hands with the guys that fund the players we have, then he really isn’t going to like it in the NFL where the owners make all the decisions.

Question: were our $9.95ers straight up lying about everything this offseason, or are they just compete morons who don’t know anything about football? It has to be one of those two.

This was the most sunshine-y offseason I can ever remember. Like, it was over the top.

Imagine having Sark’s resources and losing 3 games before November

Does Ohio state not have resources?  Florida? OU?  Also- didn’t lose 3, but the other guy is on scholarship too. This year hasn’t been great but the trajectory of the program has been awesome- so it’s silly not to give it another year to play out and see if this is a blip or not.

I wouldn’t hire somebody interviewing during a season where they were still in contention. Has to be a huge red flag. Isn’t that a sign you’re not giving it your all, not being fully dedicated to your players, fans, and other coaches?

I don't think Sark is the guy . . . how can anyone look at the program right now, in year 5, and say he is with a straight face? That said, I don't really want him gone.  Because we've shown no ability to pick good coaches - most programs suck at it.

So I'm the battered wife stuck in a shitty marriage.

I really think Arch just didn’t feel the pressure and over think anymore after we got down so much and just started playing ball without thinking because he had nothing to lose anymore.  If he’s not in his head all season we are undefeated still even with a horrible oline.   When teams gamble they can blitz 6 or 7 and the opposing QB can’t hit a 7 yard slat, your offense doesn’t have a chance. If you can trust your qb to hit standard passes it really opens up the run game also.  We really just need average QB play to be undefeated still.  That ain’t all on Sark, but he’s not helping.

If Sexton & Co. aren't the source of the NFL story, who could it be?

Surely not some guy who got fired here, drifted a while, got on elsewhere, then got fired there as well, replaced by an NFL coach... and moved back here? Guy like that, he'd be a terrific interim - and who knows, maybe a few more years... maybe even coach a few more wins and pass up Saint Darrell?

Basically what I've been saying.

The 4th quarter, much like the 4th against Florida, it looks like Arch was playing looser, not thinking as much and just making plays.  Maybe it was just as simple as spreading it out and simplifying the offense.  Maybe it was more that Miss St just stopped blitzing.

Either where it's there...but we still need him to be able to stay on track and move the chains consistently by making the simple throws too.

The old prevent defense, prevents your team from winning.

they definitely fucked up by going there, they tried to play keep everything in front of you football with DBs 15-20 yards deep and a 3 man rush often.  If they had stuck with their defensive game plan in Q4 and sent 6-7 every down they probably win by 14+

Jerry Jones would 100% leak a story that would fuck with Texas.  I don't know if he is the culprit, but have no doubt he would do it just out of spite.

I mean “we’re Texas.” How do we make this happen? Just kidding.

How do we make Sark call plays like he did in the 4th Quarter of the Mississippi State game? It was a fucking masterpiece. And it was his “break glass in case of emergency” offense. How do we get a guy who continuously reverts back to his “I wanna run my plays and my dudes regardless of my opponent and my personnel” offense to call like he did the 4th quarter for all future games? That is the main question.

I will continue to be pissed about his entire NFL pro-style practice approach to this offseason. The last previous years we did not do that and we made it to the playoffs. Why did he change the entire approach? And yes, there is a thread for the other off season personal gossip and nonsense .

Jerry's grandson was a preferred walk on for Sark and I'd heard years back Sark and Jerry were friendly. No clue how that plays into what happened on Saturday morning. We all know Jerry is erratic, could be as simple as him just talking shit and accidentally divulging information that wasn't meant to be shared.

They rarely played prevent and continued to pressure/blitz him in the the 4th quarter.

Nah, play calling and OL play (due to play calling) are what changed things.

going to 10 or 11 personnel moved a rusher (DL or LB) out of the box and allowed Arch time to make throws

Even though this isn’t how any of us pictured it, the Longhorns are now sitting at 6-2 and preparing to host top ten Vanderbilt. Everything Texas wanted to accomplish in the pre-season remains a possibility.

**

Football is a very cut and dry sport, especially when it comes to chasing championships.

Either you win or you don’t.

How the Longhorns prevailed in that 17-point fourth-quarter comeback is not nearly as important as the fact that they prevailed, period.

There’s something special about doing that.

Learning to win on the road, against all odds, never giving in, those are traits every single Texas player can carry forward from this game.

A lesser team would have given up.

Not only will it help the rest of this year, it’ll help the rest of their careers.

**

At the end of the third quarter, there was a Texas team meeting right near the 50-yard line. The whole team gathered around.

There were two people in the middle of that huddle.

Arch Manning and Anthony Hill.

It was spirited. It was lively.

Hill finished the day with 2.5 sacks and 9 QB pressures. Manning played his guts out and threw for 160 yards in the 4th quarter.

Two leaders led the team, not only in that huddle but on the field.

That’s how teams grow, how teams become good to even great. Players step up when the chips are down.

**

We’re expecting to hear later today on Arch Manning and the likelihood of his return this weekend. It seems doubtful. We were told immediately following the game that Manning could not remember the play in which he was injured.

**

With the coaching merry-go-round, there are going to be a lot of recruiting news and notes to chase over the next few days and weeks.

There’s just no telling where the firing of Brian Kelly leads.

Texas was not only interested in many of their commitments, but also several players on the LSU team itself.

Sarkisian told reporters Monday morning that QB Arch Manning was not a participant on Monday for the first practice of the week.

Sarkisian confirmed that Manning is in concussion protocol after taking a hard hit to the back of the head on the first play of overtime.

Guys, moving Stroh back to the left side and bringing Campbell back in is what started the comeback.

Yes, because Brooks against OU seems like an aberration now.  The last two games he's gotten destroyed in pass pro now that other teams have a semblance of film on him.  Stroh came in and played well in pass pro against MSU.

Maybe have Brooks go in on first down, 2nd and 10 when we have an incomplete on first down (b/c Sark always runs), and Stroh on all passing downs.

Posted

If our leaders were so great at the start of the 3rd quarter, maybe we wouldn't have been down 17 with 12 minutes to go in the fourth?
