Got notification from my government agency tenants that my rent checks would not be coming today, utilities need to be maintained during the shutdown, and not to contact the employees during the shutdown. Wonder if I can just change the locks if this runs long enough?

Give copies of the keys to people you know who need shelter. They pay a "convenience fee" to "work" as cleaners, security, whatever inside the buildings for a set period of time each day. Maybe while sleeping. Their performance is assumed to be satisfactory, no reason to follow up and inspect.

If we ever get another D in office, first order of business should be to burn this atrocity to the ground. Not dismantle it or destroy it. Burn it down.

How the fuck do the Dems lose the messaging on this when House = R, Senate = R and White house = R, hell even the SC = R.

And all the messaging is "Dems holding out for benefits for documented immigrants."

If the Republicans wanted to govern they would.  They want the fucking crisis of use as cover for other horrible shit they want to do..

Out of curiousity and trying to put myself in the average layman who doesnt follow and doesn't understand the government, I prompted ChatGPT with what I would imagine the unwashed masses would ask ChatGPT to try and make heads or tails:

Quote

Whose fault is it the government shut down?

Here was the response:

Blame for a government shutdown usually depends on which side the public thinks is being unreasonable. In this case (October 2025), here’s the breakdown:
  • Republicans (majority in both House and Senate):
They advanced a short-term funding bill, but it did not include the full health-care subsidies Democrats wanted. They argue Democrats are “holding the government hostage” to push for Obamacare-related spending.

  • Democrats:
They refused to support the GOP bill, saying it did not sufficiently protect health-care funding (particularly Affordable Care Act subsidies). They argue Republicans could have avoided a shutdown by including these provisions.

  • Reality:
A shutdown happens only when both sides fail to compromise before the deadline. Republicans technically passed a bill, but without bipartisan buy-in, it was doomed in the Senate. Democrats blocked it, insisting on their demands.

So, in plain terms:

  • Republicans are blamed for putting forward a partisan bill.

  • Democrats are blamed for refusing to accept it without changes.

  • The actual cause is the standoff over health-care funding tied to the budget.

Do you want me to show you how media on the left vs. media on the right are framing who’s at fault? That way you can see how the blame narrative is being split.

Trying to tie this shut down to healthcare is stupid, imo. That’s one tiny part of it. The reality is that Rs are trying to destroy democracy in a multitude of ways and Ds should not vote to fund that attempt.

Republicans don't really want "govern." They never have. They want power. And wealth. Many just want to be able to use the N-word and R-word.

In seriousness there is likely an availability of appropriated funds clause in the lease that you should check out.

The idiots on ChatGPT are not asking this, they are asking “why do the Democrats want to give illegal immigrants free stuff.”

Though privately funded, Congress did not agree (vote) to cede land for this ballroom.

Still waiting to learn that ICE agents will continue to be paid during the shutdown.

Chuck Schumer is so fucking worthless, how does he keep getting elected as Minority Leader?  The guy can't communicate, he's senile and he's the only known dinosaur that is also an invertebrate.

Someone called Hakeem Jefferies "AIPAC Shakur" and I think that's hilariously accurate. He's worthless too, now I see why the Dem establishment picked him as the next Speaker.

Dems need to champion issues, not the process and rules. The issue isn't that you are not agreeing to a CR, the issue is that the American people don't even know what the fuck you are holding out for.

this isn’t that hard. have someone on the left send out the only messaging any dem should use across all platforms or in person.

something like, “a year ago, americans voted in a bunch of dishonest and incompetent republicans who now control the house, the senate, and the presidency. you are seeing that dishonesty and incompetence in action. elections have consequences and we’re tired of being the fucking janitors every time the republicans make a mess. we will continue to use our limited power to keep you healthy and safe. that’s what we’re fighting for.”

if the gop wants to let this country burn for a year, they’ll find out next nov.

Pretty unimaginable stuff to hear from a Speaker of the House in any context. I can’t recall a single instance of one saying how awesome it would be if the President could do stuff without Congress at all. We are basically gone as a constitutional republic, as 2/3 branches just…willingly handed over everything to the third.

“The pro side is is what Charlie was referring to and what I talked to the president about in the Oval Office 48 hours ago. It does give an opportunity to the power in charge, the president in charge, to make unilateral decisions that don’t need a vote of Congress about which programs in the government are essential and which are not,” Johnson said.

“Chuck Schumer — very stupidly, Moon — just walked right into that trap. He’s handed President Trump the keys to the kingdom,” Johnson said.

Love the idea but is ANYONE in the D party doing any kind of messaging at all? Their silence for the past 10 months juxtaposed against what we all know the R's would be doing if the script were flipped is nauseating.

Gonna repeat myself… “we’ll agree to the budget right after unredacted Epstein files are released”. Let it burn.

Democrats need to stop caring so much about what Republicans say about them. They don’t seem to understand that Republicans are preaching to the choir. Democrats need to preach to their own choir.

we’re squawking about specific healthcare policy and trying to counteract republican lies/talking points.

keep it broad and consistent. call them what they are - liars. tell america we’re tired of the trolling and the gaslighting.

trump is holding the country hostage and we don’t negotiate with terrorists. give a dictator an inch, blah blah just pick your metaphor.

This messaging from the Rs will hopefully help some voters figure out who to blame. Trump determines what’s essential and Trump decided to close down National Parks, fire the VA workers, stop payments to school districts to fund education programs, etc.
