Something seems off. I looked up the Texas crime rates for 2023. There were 11K reported rapes. I can understand that many rapes are unreported but this feels like one of the reports is wrong.

On the subject, the rape/sexual assault rates in small towns is through the roof. The one bright spot is that clearance rate is also higher presumably due to being a small town. Link Page 25 Sadly clearance rate overall is shamefully low.

Based on personal observation, I'd say I've seen more garbage on Manhattan Island than the island of Puerto Rico.

Yes but the vast majority of yesterdays attendees were from Staten Island, NJ and LI.

It’s funny because Staten Island is literally an island of trash as the largest landfill in the world (Fresh Kills landfill) was located there.

“We’ve done it before,” Homan said, presumably referencing the less than successful slur-named militaristic “Operation Wetback” from the Eisenhower administration that Trump has repeatedly invoked as a model. But historians agree that campaign not only led to far fewer deportations than the federal government claimed, but also ensnared US citizens.

A mass deportation of the scale Trump and Homan have been touting would likely have the same result. And as immigration experts have noted, such a plan would negatively impact mixed-status households, potentially tearing families apart. To that, Homan offered an alternative. “Is there a way to carry out mass deportation without separating families?” Vega asked. “Of course there is,” Homan said. “Families can be deported together.”

He was on 60 minutes. This asshole wants to drive to work sites and round up people.

Which needs to be featured in an ad broadcast all over Hispanic stations. And I'm not saying that to imply the people watching are undocumented or illegals. I'm saying that they and their children are most at risk to get swept up in a raid and have their citizenship status doubted by some asshole with a badge. Not to mention people that may be in that group who they might give a shit about being taken out of the country or have birthright citizenship children removed as well.

That bit touches on the fact that the Republicans, at least in Texas, have never been serious about kicking out all illegal immigrants. If they did that in Texas, agriculture, construction, and service industries would grind to a halt.

Bosa’s a little bitch. Runs on the field with a maga hat but then tells the press later that he doesn’t want to talk about it. You have a microphone in front of you where you can say whatever you want about your beliefs but instead act like a 8 year old caught doing something wrong. At least be a man about it.

I thought football was supposed to be a sanctuary from politics?  Oh, wait, from our politics.  Their politics are just fine to bring up.   Funny how that is always the case....

Crickets on conservative boards about bosa. I could only imagine the reaction  if an AA player had a Kamala hat on.

as for Bosa I bet his agent called him asking wtf was he doing unless he wants to be dropped by any current advertiser.

Does he endorse anything?  I admittedly don't pay much attention to NFL football, so I may have missed it, but to me he comes across as dumb and as charismatic as a box of hammers.

I bet any known name makes some advertisement money. Advertisers approach teams and agents with budgets and effectively ask who they can get. Recognizable faces and names are better.  He was defensive player of year, all pro, 2nd overall pick. His ad money isn’t zero.

perhaps he doesn’t have a national ad but few players have that.

I have a HS acquaintance who posts that asshat's shit on Facebook all the time.  She thinks he hung the moon.  I wonder what she thought about that clip, because she clearly votes.

Oh yeah, she's as dumb as a stump.

Probably a topic for another thread, but what is making young white males embrace Maga and racism??

Some of my kids friends are racist little shits.

It makes them feel special without them needing to do anything to justify that feeling. You notice how most of the prominent white men who try to argue that race science is legitimate look like cro magnon freaks? Those guys get to point to "science" and say it proves they're actually attractive and desirable.

Who didn't have their parents' worldview as a teenager? I almost feel bad for them. Hopefully, they'll go to college and figure out that girls don't want to talk about crypto and the traditional family.

Bombarded with right wing propaganda growing up with almost no exposure to differing viewpoints probably has something to do with it.  Yuri Bezmenov out front…

Yeah, that, and I imagine little groups of them form and in typical male herd fashion get off on all of it.  It's an unfortunately currently socially acceptable way to be "naughty" or edgy.

It shouldn't surprise us that Trump's rhetoric has a lot of appeal for adolescent boys.  It's the adult part that's so bothersome.

He was one of eight teenagers who were confronting voters. He was the one that took to brandishing a weapon.  EDIT: I'm sure we will hear from the parents that he's actually a good kid that took a prank too far.

when I was that age, I did some dumb things but protesting a voting location and voters was definitely no where on the agenda.

It’s obviously a confidence of things, but I think they’re also lonely. Most human beings need a community of their people, particularly when they’re young. If they’ve struggled to find one, they’ll do almost anything to stick with one that will accept them. We all know this dynamic. When you find bad ones, even if they’re bad, adolescent men will do almost anything to make sure they aren’t rejected down that one as well.

I don't normally carry, although I do own a few guns. If I were carrying and some guy walks up to me or mine waving a machete, that dude would be deader than Elvis.

They're insecure.  They think that they are special flowers and everyone should love them like mommy does, then the world slaps them.  Secure men don't expect to rule their wives.  Secure men don't fear people who look other than they do.  Secure men take responsibility for their own lives and the world around them.  These kids' insecurity drives their hate.  Just like it drives their fathers' hate.
