@Chewbacca @Chopper @6th Street @honolulu hornand anybody else in CO/Denver area...school me on CO republicans? not Boebert diehards and rural maga, those folks are the same everywhere...but like, how are citified republicans around here?

i have a new friend i met at a doxie meet-up (Duke's "girlfriend's" mom lol), and she's invited us to a small get-together this weekend for the pups to play. maybe 12-15 people.

since it's so close to the election and we're still getting to know each, other she was gracious enough to lmk most of the other guests are republican and obviously politics might come up (it sounds weird but was actually really sweet and i appreciated the warning lol)

funny, she said 'since you're from Texas i assume you probably lean R?' to which i replied 'well yes i am from Texas... but politics is literally a top two reason we fled the insanity!' haha

anyway, my reply was basically 'not a problem at all for me...but fyi I am a highly informed voter, a have a govt degree from UT, i spent my entire career in the public sector, and politics is basically my hobby...so yeah, don't start none, won't be none' lol ( i mean i was also sweet and nice 😊 but that was the gist)

so honestly, im not particularly concerned, i'm more than capable of refusing to engage and letting Duke hang out with his girlfriend for a couple of hours without getting offended if politics comes up... but i'm also very likely to call out bs if/when i hear it being spread. but as these are Denverites and i have literally not seen one single Trump flag or sign in the city itself (H/W is everywhere!) i'm assuming these are going to be much more of the educated, wealthy/country club type... and i'm just wondering if there's any kind of hot buttons or whatever to be careful of?🤔

my hope is since they are hopefully NOT maga morons that we can just actually avoid politics altogether... you know, like civilized people used to?

the fact that she had no idea which way i leaned after hanging out several times tells me that I am capable of that...but i don't know about others 😐

anyway... open to advice/suggestions! 😜

I don't raise the issue of politics with people at all. Sure, sometimes I open my big mouth but I've become pretty good at just keeping it shut in public. It's really like the last thing I want to talk about unless I know the person is well-educated and experienced in politics. If people choose to reveal themselves to me and they're wingnuts, I generally avoid them in the future. We have a few R acquaintances and for things like pickleball I'll tolerate 'em but generally, probably because Fort Collins is pretty firm for the Democrats, they keep their mouths shut too. It's funny the assumptions people make. When we first moved here, a couple down the street assumed I was a Republican because I always wore a Longhorns cap when walking the dog. They were a bit cool at first, but ever since they realized her mistake, we've all become big buds.  I was pretty shocked that people would make that assumption but your experience is what I've found in many cases, if they know you're from Texas they assume you're R. We have to explain Austin and UT to a lot of people.

First work call this morning was a trumpkin who went off about how business is down because everyone is worried about the election.

Yes, everyone is worried because you fuck sticks want to elect a god damn fascist demagogue who will plunge us into chaos and uncertainty. Of course I can’t say that to her.  I have to maintain professionalism

According to her it’s because Kamala is a liar and Trump will fix everything and everyone will have money again. Well thought out and well reasoned. God dammit.

I get this kind of sentiment from my family Dotardarians from time to time. Drives me insane. “…. you know, because of how crazy politics are these days. Because of the crazy liberals.”

Uh huh. That’s why.

Was at a neighborhood halloween party last night and got to overhear some MAGA logic

- "Trump is going to win in a landslide, because the *lack* of Trump signs in our neighborhood somehow proves that Trump supporters don't feel the need to "show off" who they are voting for, which then proves that everyone "knows" he's going to win comfortably."

- "All the Harris signs are just old southern democrats who will always vote democrat because they think all republicans are evil - they are obviously not paying attention to the news at all."

This is why I don't socialize.

I sweatergawd, going MAGA makes you instantly lose 50% of your IQ points.  She if absolutely fucking batshit loony.

Was thinking in the same vein, given her Rhodes scholarship and further graduate degrees at Oxford.

But, she's also just generally a thought extremist, so just proving the horseshoe/circle theory.

As to that horsehoe theory, it's amazing how the affliction of "believing your own bullshit" seems to strike hardest among those of lowest intelligence AND those with highest intelligence.  We expect gullibility from the low-IQ crowd.  But from the high-IQ crowd, it throws us.  It shouldn't, because it's not gullibility that's at play, but rather hubris.  If the mere thought of a possibility occurs to the high-IQ'd, they presume that it must be true, because it emanated from their brilliant mind.

Naomi Wolfe is smart, really good at pattern observation and such.  Therefore, whenever she spots something that 1) MIGHT be a pattern and 2) (and this is an important party, because she's also a lizard-brained emotional being) resonates with her preconceived beliefs, she concludes internally "a-ha, I, the brilliant Naomi, have spotted a pattern, and because I am the brilliant Naomi, I am right!"

When I was young, my S. Texas grandfather gave me the highest praise anyone has ever given me: "Old Brisket's gonna do alright...he's smart enough to know how dumb he is."  For much of my life, I thought that was praise that set me apart from the riff-raff who were lower-IQ and had a serious case of Dunning-Kruger.  As I've gotten older, I've realized that there is another group of Dunning-Kruger sufferers who are-objectively-"smarter" than I am.  That revelation would surprise young Brisket.

Dems are afraid of churches and tax exempt status. Dems also have an unrealistic hope to unite the country. Hence why Obama decided to forgive the Bush Admin for all crimes under their watch especially related to the war on terror.

Somewhat yes.  Revocation of tax-exempt status is sure to evoke cries of violation of the First Amendment and gubmint interference with religion.

But possibly more importantly, if the law is enforced equally, black churches are guilty of the same conduct with approximately the same frequency, and loss of tax-exempt status would surely destroy them.

Slight aside, I'm thrilled last night that, after reading this or other threads in the CR this AM, that I didn't see anyone dressed in a fucking garbage bag last night trick or treating. Mother fuck ton of Harris/Walz signs and the like, however, in the neighborhood we went to with friends.

My "costume" last night as we welcomed a shitload of people to our house (my wife does a whole big to-do which draws LOTS of trick or treaters) was my COACH shirt and my Harris Walz camo hat.  I didn't see myself getting any dirty looks.  And I got multiple compliments, mostly from attractive moms, so....winning for Brisket.  Nobody wearing or doing anything Trumpy, that we saw.

Worth noting that the basis of suspension here (practical disbarment) is his plea of guilty to a serious crime involving misrepresentation, fraud or deceit.

Thus, this came within one year of his October 2023 plea and conviction of that crime.

This is one of the easiest grounds of disbarment/suspension on which a Bar can proceed.  Unlike what the Texas Bar attempted with Powell.

However, Texas has a very similar scheme to NY here and I believe I would expect a similar result on her plea and conviction.

That's bad any way you slice it, whether it's pro-MAGA or anti-MAGA and making a statement. Parents should NEVER use children as political props -- I abhor it when MAGA does it so I'd better be consistent and condemn it on our team, especially when done to be provocative like this (if that's what's being done).

What the fuck.  I can't tell though if this is Trumpist Death Cult or Lefty Lunacy.  I suppose it could be the latter attempting to be satirical.

Fucked up either way. Come on Parents.  Do you fucking job.

Closest thing is that doesn’t look like a real Maga hat that they have to wear around, so lean Democrat provocateur.  Especially with the presumed consented participation of the other two.

And yes, neighborhood differences actually came up.  One of our neighbors had her sister's family come over from Steiner Ranch, because they couldn't handle trick or treating in their MAGA neighborhood.

Fuck these people that have twisted care for a dying baby into this late term abortion murder bullshit. Palliative care for a dying newborn is a coordinated care strategy that focuses on improving the newborn's quality of life and comfort. It can be offered at the same time as other treatments, and can include end-of-life care to support a dignified death for the infant and the family.

How would you deal with a 75 year old Mexican MIL that says, "Trump is what our country needs", "those girls knew what they were getting into, they deserve what happened to them", "We need someone more like Putin", "that black lady is a pendeja", "black people are about to take over", "Mexicans need to be stopped from getting free cell phones and health care", "if they don't like it they should stay in Mexico". Etc. Etc. She use to be a cotton picker, no high school education, and still believes in religion.

so the party tonight was not bad, met a fellow Texan/Longhorn fan so that was cool, talked football most of the night🤘

politics never even came up...until one lady showed up in one of those stupid costumes - red shirt with hefty trash bag over it, complete with a 'HUMAN GARBAGE' sign. she made a big deal announcing 'this was my Halloween costume!'

Halloween was yesterday. she was literally the only one in costume.

Duke did start humping his girlfriend, but she hasn't gone into her first heat and his balls haven't appeared yet so thank god we don't have to worry about unwanted pregnancy! 😄 but he had a great evening 😊

The ace card you own is the threat of her never getting to see her grandkids. Ever.

Set the boundary and tell her if she says X (you define what X is), she will never see her grandkids again. Carne guisada be damned.

I had to use this boundary with my dad on one word he would occasionally say. He hasn’t said it again in my presence.
