The TP hoarders.

Quite a few more carabinieri out and about now. They appear to have deployed military as well. I guess they don't have posse comitatus here.

Correct. Swine flu was before the social media presence we have now. Everyone was not fully connected to the news/media 24.7 like now. There was unrest and it was talked about but nothing like now. And no fucking cancellation worldwide of sports and all these entertainment events. Don't think schools were cancelled. I was in college at the time and never missed a single class because of it.

This is a great social experiment. The hype and fear the media can cause and their ability to set off a chain reaction that impacts the world at the drop of a dime. Every fucking sports league known shut down. Any event shut down. Entertainment wiped away instantly. Just like that. Schools shut down just like that. This is the most ridiculous thing I have witnessed in my lifetime by far. Why doesn't the media report every single case of the flu and every other known virus/illness we have? People are so brainwashed they actually think having this virus means the end of life, mark of death, terminal illness. The media controls this world and has it by the balls. This proved it. There is no coming back. What will the media tell everyone to fear next?

No one gave a damn in the past about any of it. Why? Because the media didn't drive it down their throats 24/7. This has taken over the world. What would happen if everyone just disconnected for even 2 whole days from the media world. Lived their lives. Washed their hands. Sanitized themselves. Tried to live a healthy life. You know, shit you should be doing everyday no matter what. Oh, that's right, life would be normal. No irrational fear. Nothing new would happen. Humans get sick.Spread shit. Get ill. Sometimes die from these illnesses. And no one bats an eye. But have the media slap a label on this virus, report every single little thing about it and here we were. Mass hysteria to the likes we have never seen.

Us humans like to believe we are the most intelligent species on Earth. We just proved we are nothing more than house dogs that can be trained and manipulated at the drop of a dime. It's just in a different manner than a dog. They are trained by having food waved in front of them. We are trained by the media being waved in front of us. Why doesn't the media report every single case and deaths of every single illness humans get and spread on a daily basis.

Also, this epidemic just proved how dirty us humans are. The fact that they are having to teach people and tell people to wash their hands, don't go out if you are sick, stay away from sick people, don't sneeze and cough in the open is extremely alarming. Was no one doing this before? Of course not. Which is why so many viruses and sickness spread on a daily basis on this planet. I now see people wiping down shopping cart handles before they use it. Wash their hands. I just have to laugh. Because you rarely ever see that shit before now. If us humans actually kept up with ourselves, the world would be much cleaner.

There is a huge difference in being cautious and fear mongering. If you are so afraid of this virus, then go ahead and bunker down and never leave the confines of your home for the rest of your life. Because the world is not going to be different and safer once this hype craze has passed. There is still going to be diseases, illness, viruses on people on a daily basis. Why was no one worried about those before? That's right. Media didn't report on it and tell them to panic and fear.

Every single thing you posted was wrong.

Swine flu fatality rate was .03 percent.

Regular seasonal flu fatality rate is .1 percent

Based on data from multiple countries, Covid-19 has a fatality rate between 1% and 3%. And, it has a significantly higher need of hospitalization than either flu variation.

Swine flu was talked about. Swine flu was treated seriously. A health emergency was declared within a month of it being found here. Millions of tests were ready a month later. The primary issue with Swine flu was that 1) it hit the younger hardest and 2) it tended to require a higher hospitalization rate than regular flu.

The corona virus hits the elderly hardest, and it appears to hit really damn hard, like 15% fatality rate for those over 80 hard. Worse, it spreads easily, lasts on surfaces for a long time (possibly several days), and it is a completely novel virus to humans, meaning no inherent immunity whatsoever to it. If corona virus spreads to the same extent that swine flu did (and at this point we have every reason to think it will absent drastic measures), 70 to 100 million will be infected. That means over 1 million dead compared to 10 thousand for swine flu. That means millions or tens of millions of hospitalizations as opposed to 200,000 for swine flu.

So yeah, it deserves a little bit more attention than regular season flu or swine flu.

China didn't quarantine 75 million people and shut down their economy because of the fucking media, social or otherwise. The goddamn thing was barely a whisper before that happened. Italy hasn't shut down their entire country save for grocery stores and pharmacies because of the medial. Iran hasn't built mass graves and gone begging for money because of the goddamn media. South Korea isn't testing the entire damn country because of the fucking media.

Random thought: yesterday we started getting glimpses of medication cocktails that SoKo is using which MAY be contributing to their lower CFR relative to similarly affected countries.  One of the protocols involves combining the old malaria drug chloroquine with Zinc.  Zinc is a 2++ ion that apparently shuts down the RNA polymerase that the virus requires to effect its virulence.  The RNA polymerase works inside infected cells.  Zinc ion can't easily cross into cells (cytosol).  Choroquine is an ionophore that picks up Zinc ions and carries them into the cells where they disrupt the RNA polymerase.  Chloroquine apparently increases the cytosolic concentration of Zinc x10 relative to taking Zinc alone.

Where I'm going with this is that apart from an acute intervention for very sick patients, could this be a prophylactic strategy for all vulnerable health care staff?  Start taking some dose of Chloroquine once or twice or more per week with daily Zinc to have it already waiting there with boosted intracellular levels to disrupt onset of illness and severity, i.e. don't wait until the first wallop from being infected?

And given the amount of international travel that occurs in and out of China, the virus was certainly present in North America much sooner than originally thought.

And some of the "flu" cases and deaths from this past season were probably Covid-19.

Must have missed this if it was mentioned earlier, but one of the two Travis county cases was tested at the Bee Cave Seton ER. Hide your kids, hide your MILFs.

Okay, so then is the premise that this bug isn't nearly as lethal as the official numbers have been indicating?

This is what I am wondering.  I'm not in the "no big deal" camp at all, but I'm assuming that the virus has been preset in North America for at least 11weeks (that is most likely conservative).  Given the rapid spread of this virus and the impact it's had on places like Italy, shouldn't we now be seeing the results that Italy began experiencing a couple of weeks ago?  Like I said, I'm not in the "do nothing" camp and I think it has been wise to cancel the events that have been canceled, but I am cautiously optimistic that it isn't going to be as bad here as it has been in China and Italy.  I'll throw in the disclaimer that all bets could be off if this next week turns into a shitshow like Greenspoint and Nueces Rat whatever seems to hoping for.

Add the NBA, MLB, etc. if you think "ALL GOVERNMENTS R DUMB LOL". Countries are willingly costing themselves a total of probably around a trillion dollars in GDP so far and huge corporations and sports leagues are costing themselves untold billions of dollars in revenue.

If you really think that's only because of social and traditional media then you're an idiot.

Chloroquine plus zinc may be even more effective at halting or mitigating coronavirus infection when loading is present before actual infection than when started after infection is symptomatic and typically severe.

2) What the fuck is your post actually meant to imply? That the hospitals are already overloaded in Houston, so they're grabbing surgery centers with new patients coming in hot? Like in a movie?

the "using ASCs as field hospitals" is a solid move due to the fact that many of them are already set up generally as a tiny hospital with a waiting area/check in area and then behind closed doors ORs, pre-op and recovery rooms - vs doing something like building out the Astrodome or building hospitals in convention centers.

Depending on how big they are it makes sense to start there

re: pending admissions at first, I read that as he has to go because of pending admissions but now that I re-read it it looks like he is hinting at pending admissions for his ASC from this which would be very, very, very unlikely they would start filling up there vs in a hospital.

One of my brothers is an anesthesiologist ... in Houston. I'm suddenly terrified that he works with GreenspointTexas. Maybe he is GreenspointTexas?!? Fuck. No, he has to be a nurse or something.

Anyway, this caused me to actually ask big brother what he's seeing. He says there aren't any known cases in SE Houston and he's not hearing any rumors of such. Then he went on a rant about WHO being a bunch of handwringing pussies. He worked for or with WHO in Africa and Turkey on some shit after med school. I don't know in what capacity. Just know that he did it for a while.
