That’s a panic-inducing headline meant to freak people out. Previously healthy lungs can repair themselves relatively quickly. Short term lung function will probably be impacted but they will likely repair themselves if there’s no overt fibrosis. People who stop smoking can return to normal lung function in a couple of years.

This is the kind of shit that causes overreaction and irrational panic.

You pretty much summed up this whole entire fucking ordeal.

this is at least the second time and maybe the third time you have posted this
it isn't down, it isn't "busted" - it is getting fucking SLAMMED hit/visitor wise and at some point it looks like the "paused" the updates (833a this morning) likely to try and keep it up and keep it from breaking
it has been a vital source for updates since basically the start
i said it yesterday in response to your same type of comment - it is going to keep getting slammed in the mornings because it is seen as a central source of truth. think about how many millions of people are checking it in the mornings these days.
edit: looks like they may have "frozen" it to update it - now showing last updated time (bottom left) of 913a and it fixed the other locations (bottom right) curve.
actually after a second refresh, it's bouncing back and forth between the 833a and 913a updates, in an attempt to stay up im guessing.

They need to figure it out or just shut it down. More misleading than anything at the moment.

Come back in a few days/weeks when it can support tens of millions of views

I can report that HEB in Kyle is a shitshow.

I went to the one in SM yesterday and it actually wasn't as bad as normal, mainly because every Mexican family in there didn't bring their five kids with them like they usually do.

Visiting that Randalls or the Walgreens across the street significantly increases your chance of taking a weak elbow from an old while trying to line up to pay.  They don't leave their house other than to stop for food or drugs, and by god no one will get in their way!
Yesterday there was a run on the adult diapers at Walgreens.  Had a lady with eight packs of them push past me to the front of the line.  I let it go.  She needed to get out there quicker than I did I suspect.

Never get in the way of a code brown.
True, but America is built completely different.  Europe has stores within walking distance in most cases, large swathes of the US doesn't.   The closest grocery store to my house is 5 miles away.  Outside of that I have a gas station I could walk to, and its about a mile away.  We built the bulk of the country around the idea that everyone has a car.
Not to hijack the thread, but that's true and it was a terrible policy decision(s). It didn't just happen that way organically. I am, however, curious to see whether or not the relatively low density of Texas metro areas proves to be a defense mechanism of sorts in this situation.

Of course, people in Austin are still trying to have informal SXSW and Houston stupidly let the rodeo go on (did you know it's cancelled!?) so it may not matter.

On Sunday we took the only 2 packs of TP at 9:00PM. I'd assume they're out by 8:00AM now.

When I went this morning, at 7:00, people weren't even letting the stockers put it on the shelves.  Same with canned goods and other things.  They were tearing the boxes open and taking what they 'needed'.  It was freaking mayhem.

Lil HEB is well stocked. Students cannot afford to hoard, or they just steal from the university. Damn man, we should grab a beer at Zelicks.

With the amount of high profile cases popping up I think the number of cases may be metric fuckton more than we realize.

What are the odds mayors, actors, professional athletes, coaches, presidents, wives of prime ministers, etc. would have come down with this without there being tens of millions of cases already?

I worry the ever talked about hospital overload is getting ready to hit very fucking soon.

I was just watching BBC news, and they had a little preview for a show on life in Wuhan.  It centered on a filmmaker in Wuhan who lived with a nurse.  She got it.

What hit me was how he reacted - something that really wasn't discussed.  Until she was hospitalized 2 weeks later, he spent 24/7 in a separate room, wearing full PPE (paper suit, mask, shield, etc.) and wandered around with one of those thin mop things wiping everything down with disinfectant.  When he gave her food he set it on a table outside the bedroom door and closed himself off before she cracked open the door to get it.  Whenever he went into her room to get dishes or clean, she had to remain fully under a comforter.

It was striking in that his reaction and efforts were not discussed as overly precautious, over-the-top, paranoid, or even commented on in any way.  It was just what happened.  If that's what's needed to prevent someone else in the house from getting it, we're fucked.

He didn't get it.  She's in some hospital recovering now.  Hospital looked pretty damn nice, too.

The full 30-minute version of the show will be here tomorrow:

I went to Costco here in Chula Vista, CA yesterday to get some dry goods to prepare for a two week staycation.   I was in line 10 minutes before the store opened.  It took me 30 minutes to get in the front door.  TP was sold out in 18 minutes from opening, even with a 1 pack per customer limit.

Everyone laughed at me when I started prepping a month ago. Everyone laughed at me when I bought a bidet. My neighbor laughed when he saw me hauling in 20 pound bags of dog food.

Who's laughing now, motherfuckers?

Early on I was confident that you could add a zero to the number of cases. As our testing lagged I thought probably two zeros. At this point you might be able to add 3 zeros to the number.

My sources at the CDC say to ahead and add four 0’s on the front of their estimates. That sounds pretty bad

People who fully recover from the coronavirus can be left with '20 to 30%' less lung function, and gasping for breath when they walk quickly, Hong Kong doctors find

Ummm....

The doctors found a drop of 20% to 30% in lung capacity in two or three out of those 12 patients.

Headline kinda alarmist for that data set.

I kept adding zero like you suggested and still ended up with the same number.  But it was fun anyway!

Wouldn’t surprise me at all when you have dozens of stories of people that got flu like, tested negative for flu, and were told they couldn’t be tested for covid because they didn’t meet the criteria.

I’m pretty sure air travel and the amount of non-local people they come in contact with increases the odds significantly.  Particularly air travel.

Information Security Awareness Concerning COVID-19

Malicious actors are continuing to exploit of the public’s need for knowledge concerning COVID-19. Most recently, security researchers have uncovered a malicious file that used a "Coronavirus heat map" ruse, to deliver information stealing malware.

This is one of many ploys being used by threat actors to deliver malicious files to the public and infect their systems to steal valuable information.

Something interesting that may come from all of this self quarantining (and something I thought about as a result of the lol thread) is that there is going to be a new generation of "boomers" in 9-11 months as a result of all the self quarantining.  There isn't much else to do other than drink and fuck.

That’s my plan minus more kids.

Unaware of Coronavirus, Nickelback Continues Tour of Playing to Empty Stadiums

Screen-Shot-2020-03-11-at-3.53.17-PM.png

Completely oblivious of the Coronavirus, Canadian rock band Nickelback has continued the United States leg of their “All the Right Reasons” world tour as the typical crowd size of seven people hasn’t dwindled since the outbreak began. Public health officials who had advised the cancellation of concerts specifically stated that they will permit Nickelback shows to go on.

“Nobody will ever see a Nickelback concert as a possible public health hazard because they don’t have any fans,” CDC Robert Redfield stated, “We’ve confirmed that it’s just the tour bus driver, and a handful of the stage crew out there in the stands cheering the band on every night. It’s always been just them. In fact, if you want to be safe from the virus, one of the best places you could go is to a Nickelback concert, but I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.”
