How long before Team GOP demands the United States no longer recognizes the World Health Organization?

How long before the Trump tweet blasting out how the WHO doesn't pay it's dues or owes the US money?

Quote

More than two months after the start of the outbreak of 2019 novel coronavirus in China, the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared a global pandemic—a move that might have no real meaning at all.

Also known as COVID-19, this particular disease’s first patient was identified in the city of Wuhan late last year. Since then, more than 100,000 patients infected with the virus have been reported worldwide, along with some 4,000 deaths. The virus has spread to dozens of of countries on all continents except Antarctica, with South Korea and Italy seeing some of the largest volume outside China.

“We are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction,” Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the WHO, said Wednesday.

It’s like they’re trying to spread it more quickly.

Certainly feels that way. No testing, hiding stats, knee capping the CDC and scientific community. When do we start looking at this as by design instead of incompetence? Of course, this whole term could have that question asked.

Think about how fucked we are.

Then quadruple that.

We’re facing a global crisis with no national leadership. Correction, we have national ANTI-leadership, actively working against the interests of the American people.

So...super fucked.

Pandemic, market crash, an election with the gates open to foreign interference, and an Admin who only cares about self-perseverance.

What could go wrong?

it's just so sad to see where we are now. we used to be the country everyone looked to as a model in these times. our awesome scientists would have come through and saved the day with a vaccine and everyone goes back to their lives. hell, there would probably be a movie made with Matt Damon or some shit. we are not even a shell of our former selves. we're the dust left behind

GOP has told us for 40+ years why government is worthless, evil and keeping us all from being wealthy.  So many people believed it that they thought a failed businessman from a TV show could do it.  Now we see why competent leadership might be a good thing.

At some point, you have to wonder whether we’ll see a coup or the 25th.  It’s one thing for the powers in Congress and the military to keep Trump in there nominating judges and stumping for candidates when his incompetence is benign in the short-term.  It’s another thing when it becomes a proximate threat to the nation.

I know this is a joke account, but their commentary was pretty on-point yesterday... I'm curious how donkey-brained this economic stimulus for a viral outbreak is gonna go.

I'm not so sure it is a joke account anymore. . . I think this may actually be someone with inside knowledge.

To be fair, he is sorta running the government like a business. Maybe like one of his businesses, but the fact that he's spent his whole life being regarded as a successful businessman, I'm sticking with just business.

You won't see the 25th from this cabinet.

Pence isn’t holding back on a 25th A play out of love for Trump.  He just hasn’t had an opportunity, because his own support has been entirely dependent on the Trumpist Cult.  But Trump’s sunny day supporters are going to turn on him en masse as his continued buffoonery tanks their 401ks, kills their chain-smoking, diabetic meemaw and peepaw, and generally fucks shit up for the foreseeable future.  Pence’s moment of opportunity could arrive soon.

State and County govt need to step the fuck up and tell this administration to fuck off

I'm sure Blue states will start doing that. The Red states that are beholden to Team Trump, like our own, won't do a damn thing to go against their God King. See, America, this is why you don't elect a con man who wants to destroy elements of your government. You might actually need those elements when a crisis breaks out. But hey, you got a tax cut and your 401K is doing well, err, well better than 2016...for now.

An Oval address to try to calm markets, not to talk about a global health crisis.

Totally on point.

The only thing he'll say about the health issue is how perfectly they are handling everything and that it will all go away. The rest will be about tax cuts, bailouts, and how the Fed is to slow to react.

You know that character that is every disaster movie - the rich guy with the briefcase full of cash, who make really stupid decisions trying to save his briefcase, while people around him die.  40% of voters love him.

Side note: anyone else get the feeling the non-CR thread is more CR than the real CR thread?

Only because of people bitching and policing about "take it to the CR".  I mean what do you expect on a thread where you can question, discuss and ridicule the actions and responses of every country and government but your own?

They are doing this because there weren't actually any deliberations about how to address the virus.  The meetings would have consisted of "we can't say that because it will upset Trump" and directives from the White House that "you have to minimize it and focus on the economy being strong."

But Red States depend on taxes from Blue States.
