Like clockwork, Aggie’s say they’ve cooled on Hale.

I have a question about crypto thumb drives. How do people that want to access that crypto turn it into cash without leaving a digital footprint for authorities? I guess they just transfer it to someone else who then turns it into cash and gives it to them?

Almost all of the exchanges that convert Crypto to Dollars send reports to the IRS. There's no way to know how you acquired that bitcoin, especially if you send it to a Mixing Service. So, you'd have to pay taxes on the dollar proceeds, but likely any kind of fraud related to the ownership of that crytpocurrency would likely not be something that would be prosecuted.

Resetting the Texas A&M board: Where the Aggies stand on offense in the 2023 class

Brian Perroni

The busy June official visit period has come and gone and with it, a lot of prospects have come off the board. In fact, the last two weeks or so have been the busiest time for commitments in the entire class of 2023 cycle so far.

Texas A&M is not near the top of the rankings at this point as the Aggies have just five pledges right now. However, Jimbo Fisher and Co. are always very active late in the cycle and that will be the case again this year.

But, with a lot of players having made decisions, we look at where things stand at the moment at each position on offense.

QUARTERBACK

Texas A&M swung for the fences with a couple five-star passers but the Aggies are now completely focused on four-star Dripping Springs, Texas, quarterback Austin Novosad.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder has been committed to Baylor since mid-December but both A&M and Ohio State offered in June and he is now making a decision between those three schools. An announcement about his plans is expected relatively soon.

Novosad is from an Aggie family, which is something that definitely helps A&M. And the longer the decision takes, the better it bodes for the Aggies as he is in frequent communication with the staff.

Novosad, who had a very strong showing at the Elite 11 Finals last week, could be looking at bumps by all the services in the next rankings cycle. But, if he decides to stick with Baylor or go with Ohio State, A&M will have to go back to the drawing board at the position.

At that point, the Aggies may decide to monitor the season seasons of a bunch of prospects. The most likely candidates to be in the class would probably be players committed elsewhere at the moment. Two that they could go back in on are four-star Purdue commit Rickie Collins out of Louisiana and Ole Miss pledge Marcel Reed from Tennessee.

RUNNING BACK

A&M has had two primary targets at running back for some time now. One is El Campo, Texas, five-star Rueben Owens and the other is Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater national top-50 prospect Cedric Baxter Jr.

Owens made a somewhat surprising commitment to Louisville last month but A&M is still recruiting him and will be involved there until he signs on the dotted line somewhere. He has been to Aggieland a ton and it is close to El Campo. Again, this one will go down to when he actually signs.

Baxter is considered a lean to Texas, but he did make an unofficial visit to Aggieland for the final weekend in June. He has been to College Station multiple times and A&M keeps working on him. Texas thought they could have him in the boat by now but he finally set a commitment date of Aug. 10. Florida and Miami are also involved.

Four-star Kaleb Jackson out of Baton Rouge is announcing Tuesday morning. He is a player A&M really likes and had in on an official last month. But, he seems likely to stay in town and play for LSU.

Four-star Jeremiyah Love out of St. Louis (Mo.) Christian Brothers is a national top-100 prospect that is ranked as an athlete but is being recruited by A&M as a running back. He officially visited the first weekend in June and also made officials to Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame and Oregon. The Irish are in pretty good shape but he does not have a timeline yet.

Depending on how things shake out and how they feel about their other targets, A&M could get more involved with four-star Roderick Robinson II out of San Diego. He is committed to UCLA but the Aggies went to see him the maximum two times during the spring evaluation period. His offensive coordinator is also former A&M wide receiver Jason Carter.

A&M has also recently offered speedy South Florida prospect Christopher Johnson. A onetime Rutgers commit, he has been really popular in adding some big offers as of late and he has the Aggies as one of his top programs.

Though they do not have offers yet, some in-state guys to watch down the line would be a pair of four-star USC commits in Quinten Joyner of Manor and A'Marion Peterson of Wichita Falls Hirschi.

WIDE RECEIVER

A&M brought in quite a few wide receivers for official visits in June, but the Aggies were still working on figuring out the board. There is still a bit of state of flux, but a few guys are absolute takes.

Five-star Zachariah Branch out of Vegas is the nation’s top wideout but has been committed to USC for some time. His older brother signed with the Trojans in the class of 2022 as well. But, Branch officially visited A&M in late June and plans to be back for the pool party at the end of July. A&M is going to try to keep chipping away there.

The Aggies also are very much a player for five-star Hykeem Williams out of South Florida. He spent five days in town in June for an unofficial visit and has been to Aggieland multiple times. A&M was seen as the leader at one point but Miami has made up some ground with Georgia and Pitt both having had him in town for officials as well. Georgia could be the one to watch as the main competition.

Another South Florida prospect, four-star Andy Jean, is a former Miami pledge and a major A&M target. He released a top five over the weekend of A&M, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Miami.

The Aggies could potentially get five-star Shelton Sampson out of Louisiana in for a visit in the fall. A&M had Georgia commit Raymond Cottrell in for an official last month but he will be tough to flip. They also had Tyler Williams out of Florida but he has an announcement in late September and most people, at least as of now, expect him to choose Georgia.

The Aggies brought in four-star Adam Hopkins out of Georgia and he is very high on the Maroon and White. If A&M decides to push for him, there’s a good chance he ends up on the commitment list.

Four-star Converse Judson wide receiver Anthony Evans is announcing later this month and took an official visit to A&M in June. It will be interesting to see how hard the Aggies push for the speedster, though.

A&M has not been pursuing Longview four-star Jalen Hale as hard as others have been lately and did not make his top three that he announced last week.

TIGHT END

A&M was only going to take one tight end in the 2022 class in Donovan Green. However, four-star Theodor Melin Ohrstrom out of Sweden reclassified from 2023 and then A&M added the nation’s top tight end, Jake Johnson, during the early signing period as he joined his brother in choosing the Aggies.

Because A&M ended up taking three in 2022, they likely will not have a tight end in the 2023 class.

OFFENSIVE LINE

A&M has one offensive lineman committed in Colton Thomasson of Smithson Valley. The 6-foot-8, 325-pounder made his decision almost a year ago. The four-star prospect has played guard the first three years of his high school career but will be at tackle as a senior. He could end up at either spot for A&M.

A&M, like every other school in the country, wants some pure tackles in the class. The problem is, there is a dearth of them in 2023.

The most likely elite true tackle prospect to join the class is probably national top-100 player Chase Bisontis out of New Jersey. The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder took an official visit in early June. He also took them last month to LSU, Michigan State and Rutgers. He does not have an exact timetable but A&M is in a good position with him, as are Michigan State and Rutgers

East St. Louis, Ill., four-star Miles McVay is another player that officially visited in June. He is announcing on Aug. 11 but, right now, A&M is not at the top of the list.

Caden Jones out of Louisiana has seen a lot of offers based on his potential. He camped in Aggieland in June and will be back for the pool party at the end of this month. He is a possibility to end up in the class. A similar player also from New Orleans is Tyree Adams. Payton Kirkland out of Orlando is set to announce later this month. He is tentatively scheduled to be at the pool party but that is probably unlikely to happen should be keep to his announcement timeline.

Two other players to at least keep an eye on are three-star Paul Mubenga out of Georgia, who officially visited last month, and three-star Naquil Betrand from Philadelphia. The latter recently decommitted from Colorado and had spent an entire weekend in Aggieland when he was offered in April.

The most likely offensive lineman to join the class, though, is a prospect that A&M is recruiting as an all-around player in four-star TJ Shanahan of Austin Westlake. A tackle for the Chaps, the 6-foot-4, 310-pounder is simply a mauler in the run game. After moving from Orlando prior to his junior season, he became even higher on A&M. He also officially visited Georgia and LSU but the Aggies look like the team to beat.

The other interior players to watch are Micah Banuelos out of Seattle and Kelton Smith of Georgia. Banuelos officially visited for the spring game weekend and is a player Fisher likes. Oregon is the most likely destination, but he is at least still a possibility for the Aggies. Smith officially visited in early June but most think he will stay in state.

it's always interesting to me to see how little overlap there is between players the two schools are recruiting

  • QB: 0/1 shared players
  • RB: 2/6 (owens + baxter - being generous here w owens)
  • WR: 1/9 (hale)
  • TE: 0/0
  • OL: 1/8 (miles mcvay - again being generous. not including shanahan here)

so in all the shared players being recruiting that were mentioned are owens, baxter, hale, mcvay?

so 4/24 players currently being recruited by Texas - assuming Texas is actually in on still recruiting owens (iffy) and mcvay (not real unless he takes an OV)

in reality, there are only 2 remaining - baxter and hale

funky.

if you really want to laugh, the Texas-based players on that list of 24:

  • Austin Novosad
  • Rueben Owens
  • Anthony Evans
  • Jalen Hale
  • TJ Shanahan

so 5/24 players being recruited out of the state of Texas? 19/24 from out of state?

as a reminder, A&M currently has ONE committed Offensive recruit (Colton Thompasson, an OL out of Spring Branch who does hold a Texas offer but never took a visit here as far as I can tell)

and remember the shit Charlie Strong got when he went out of state for...anyone?

but on offense? yeesh.

the offensive side of their class of today has 1 of the top 60 players in the State in it...and he is #60.

it isn't like the offensive side of the state is super weak either - 4 top 10, 11 of top 20, 22 of top 50.

They have to realize that while their under the table deals worked last year it's not a long term strategy. Or are they that stupid or do they not have the NIL capabilities?

What?  Don't you know!? aTm leads the way in NIL.  Everyone else is merely catching up this season.  Thats the only reason we or any other team is having any recruiting success this year.

They can't figure out the difference between overt, transparent NIL deals and entities as opposed to their sub rosa, secretive "NIL."   To thine ownselves be willfully ignorant.

It's really weird how just a few months ago they were all bragging how they were leading the way on NIL with the #1 class of all time, and yet now they are all talking about how they need to get their NIL going like the big schools have.

Yep. So many years before Mack and after him, our reports looked like that. We're in John Studley's top 4. He's leaning USC, but the staff is working him hard. The guy never ended up coming here with only a few exceptions.

It is quite a turnaround for the Aggies. I don't believe most of the shit the Aggies are saying about why things are so bleak, but I wonder if the SEC teams are bashing them constantly for their brilliant "NIL" deals last season and just their whiny bitchassedness.

It would be quite amusing if the speculation around here regarding their possible difficulties making payroll, discord with upper class players not getting the same deal, and new recruits expecting more than Jimbo and Karen Key Largo can cough up proved to be true.

Help me, July Pool Party, you're our only hope.

Probably not. I believe it's been mentioned here that he is from an Aggie family. I'm sure that's why Hefty Hefty Brauny is so confident of his sourcing, because its likely one or both of the kid's parents. I imagine they welcomed Texags into their home with an opulent spread of generic brand cereal and powdered milk, as well as an offer for a 20% discount on Brauninger's car insurance

See, I think if he was going to flip...he already would have when he got the offer from A&M. They played this entire thing all wrong. They slow played him like Texas did the last few years with seemingly every one of their backup plans.

Holstein decommitted from A&M on 3/18/22.

A&M didn't offer until Novosad took an OV on 6/25/22. If you really want to laugh, he took a UOV to A&M on 3/26/22, a week after Holstein de committed, and didn't get an offer on the trip. Dude has visited A&M more than anywhere else and they still didn't offer him until the end of June.

They went after other big guns at QB, very clearly and publicly missed, then threw him an offer...AFTER he got offers from Stanford (5/13/22) and tOSU (6/1/22)

We know what this looks like because it is a move straight out of Tom Herman's playbook - and that isn't a playbook that anyone needs to be reading. In case anyone missed it he was let go by the Bears new coach and has yet to get another job. It rarely works out when you make it crystal clear you see him as a second tier dude.

Well if you were an offensive 4* or 5* why would you play at A&M ? Jimbos best QB in forever has been Mond, who was at best was playing outside his strengths to fit Jimbo's 'System' of playing scared and draining the clock. Similar for WR, there is no one on the board. I could see RB/TE wanting to play for their offense but thats not really the strategy for getting QB/WR stars

So Brauninger is saying Jimbo would rather have Novosad over Moore, yet...

He offers Moore and not Novosad, 3 days after Holstein decommits.

Novosad visits A&M the same week as Moore but isn't offered.

... 3 months pass with Moore being A&M target #1....

After Moore visits Oregon for second time and word is out he's planning to commit... Jimbo finally offers Novosad.

Moore commits to Oregon and now Novosad was REALLY Jimbos first choice.

In the end the family pull is going to be hard to overcome even it has been obviously he was a leftover pick for them.

Resetting the Texas A&M board: Where the Aggies stand on defense in the 2023 class

But, with a lot of players having made decisions, we look at where things stand at the moment at each position on defense, after looking at the offense yesterday.

DEFENSIVE LINE

A&M signed perhaps the top group of all time, regardless of position, on the defensive line in 2022. The Aggies had four separate five-star prospects and two more national top-100 players in the class. So, it is not nearly as big a need in 2023. But, they still want some difference makers.

A&M had two early pledges in four-stars Anthony James and Johnny Bowens that have since decommitted. James is now on the Washington commit list while Bowens is not committed anywhere. The Aggies could still possibly kick the tires a bit on Bowens but it would be a shock to see him pursued too heavily. James’ decommitment was very much mutual as both sides figured it was best for him to look somewhere else.

One of the top overall targets in the class, regardless of position, is Katy Paetow five-star lineman David Hicks. He played at Katy Morton Ranch as a freshman and sophomore and Allen as a junior before making his way back to the Houston area for his senior season. The nation’s No. 5 overall prospect and top player in Texas has long been high on the Aggies and has been to College Station quite a bit. Oklahoma and Oregon are also major players with him as he does not plan to announce until early January at the Under Armour game.

The Aggies have seen some of their pure nose targets come off the board but one that remains is Xzavier McLeod of South Carolina. The 6-foot-4, 325-pound four-star has multiple predictions for the in-state Gamecocks but A&M got him on campus for an unofficial last month and will look to get him back for an official.

At one point, A&M would have been considered the leader for national top-100 prospect Jordan Renaud of Tyler Legacy. The Aggies had some other players ahead of him but they did stop by to see him in the spring and could potentially get involved there again.

At edge, A&M got in a little later than others with Friendswood four-star Braylan Shelby. The 6-foot-4.5, 235-pounder plans to narrow things down on Wednesday and, if the Aggies make the cut, look for him to be at the pool party.

Five-star Jaquavious Russaw out of Alabama has been to A&M on an unofficial visit and the Aggies are trying to get him back for an official in the fall. If that happens, the Maroon and White could become a big player with him. National top-100 prospect Tausili Akana from Utah has also been to campus a couple times.

LINEBACKER

A&M will look to sign three linebackers in the class and the targets are pretty clear at this point.

One is already on the commitment list in Daymion Sanford of Katy Paetow. A Class 5A-I state champion as a junior, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound defender earned an offer after a private workout at A&M last month. After picking up others from Alabama, LSU and Texas, he committed to the Aggies at the start of the dead period.

There is perhaps no bigger target left at any position than five-star Anthony Hill of Denton Ryan. Ranked as the No. 14 overall prospect and nation’s top linebacker, Hill has been to College Station a ton and will return for an official visit at the end of this month. He has narrowed things down to a final two of A&M and Texas with the Longhorns having some momentum. But, the Aggies were out in front for quite some time and he loves both the coaching staff and defensive scheme.

The final main target is small-town standout Derion Gullette out of Marlin. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder is a freaky athlete and has been to Aggieland double-digit times on unofficial visits. But, a recent knee injury that could sideline him for his senior year has made his recruitment a bit harder to predict. There was a thought that he might commit to Texas when he took an official visit in June, but that did not happen. He is still in communication with the Aggies and should be in town for the pool party.

A&M had Grayson Howard from Florida and Tackett Curtis from Louisiana as big targets as well but the former has committed to South Carolina and the latter has a top three that does not include the Aggies.

Notre Dame is probably in the best shape for him but Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab top-100 prospect Jaiden Ausberry officially visited A&M last month and is in communication with the Aggies. Athlete Max Carroll out of Tennessee camped last month and worked out at linebacker. He could end up getting a look as well.

CORNERBACK

A&M has a very good start at cornerback in the class. Bravion Rogers of La Grange and Jayvon Thomas of South Oak Cliff are both national top-100 prospects and are both very physical. Neither is incredibly outspoken publicly but they are both recruiting others to join them.

One of those being recruited is a teammate of Thomas’ in Malik Muhammad. The nation’s No. 38 prospect has a Crystal Ball prediction for the Aggies but is another player that Texas has gotten recent momentum with. He is set to be in College Station for an official visit at the end of July and could decide at any point after that. A&M, Alabama and Texas are all major players.

The Aggies would also love to land five-star Javien Toviano out of Arlington Martin. He has kept things pretty quiet on the recruiting front and has only taken an official visit to Michigan so far. But, he is still in frequent communication with A&M.

A&M is still in communication with four-star Jordan Mathews out of Baton Rouge, too, but Texas is probably the favorite there. Four-star Ethan Nation from Georgia has not taken any official visits but did make it to Aggieland for the spring game in April.

And though he is not likely to flip from his recent commitment to nearby Alabama, five-star Tony Mitchell from Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson is still a major target as well and has been to College Station quite often.

SAFETY

A&M has recruited some corners in recent years that could end up at safety but it is still a position of need in the class.

Probably the one the Aggies are in the best shape with is Shiner four-star athlete Dalton Brooks. Though the top-100 standout worked at running back when he camped last summer, his future is on the defensive side of the ball. Brooks is another quiet kid when it comes to the recruiting process but he recently spent the weekend in College Station on an unofficial visit.

Denton Guyer national top-100 prospect Peyton Bowen has been committed to Notre Dame for some time now but he has made trips to College Station since then and will be back. The Aggies are working to chip away at him and it helps that there are former Guyer players on the A&M roster. He is one to keep a close eye on as the signing period nears.

Though A&M does not have his quarterback teammate committed any longer, four-star Zachary, La., safety Kylin Jackson is still high on the Aggies himself. The nation’s No. 134 overall player made his way to College Station to camp last month and plans to take an official visit.

Four-star Marvin Burks Jr. from St. Louis officially visited A&M last month and, on Monday, included the Aggies in his final five along with LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma and Ole Miss. He does not have a commitment timeline and could use his final two officials before deciding.

SPECIAL TEAMS

A&M took a kicker in last year’s class, so that is not a need. The Aggies offered one punter in the 2023 class, Tyler White of Southlake Carroll, and the All-American Bowl selection wasted almost no time in committing.

9 of their 20 outstanding targets in this update on defense recruiting are from Texas. 5 of 19 on offense, 9 of 20 on defense. They basically decided they were going to be a national recruiting titan after the last class and have targeted a ton of top 150 guys from all over. Great approach if it works, I guess. Early returns look dicey though.

Players being recruited by both Texas and A&M + prospects from in Texas:

  • DL: 3/5 (Hicks, Jordan Renaud, Braylan Shelby) 3/5 in state
  • LB: 2/6 (Hill and Gullette) 2/6 in State
  • CB: 3/5 (Muhammad, Toviano, J Mathews), 2/5 in state
  • S: 0/4 (assuming Texas is not in on Dalton Brooks or Peyton Bowen?) - 2/4 in state

Total: 8/20 shared prospects both schools are going for

9/20 from Texas, 11/20 from elsewhere.

Personally I think he sticks with Baylor. It's his best opportunity.

ND was too late and I don't see his interest there at least not yet.

Ohio State and Aggy have same issue where they QBs already in the program waiting they are higher on and great 2024s ready to commit. Novostad would be sandwiched between guys who he's all but been told are ahead of him.

Interesting that Ohio State doesn't have a QB committed yet for this class (and they're still at #1 overall in class rankings), so I wonder if Novosad sees it as an opportunity to be the guy for that class. I don't know who fOSU goes after if he stays at Baylor

Assuming Stroud is gone after this year, Ohio State has

- Mccord (5-star from class of '21)

- Devin Brown (high 4-star, '22)

- Raiola  (overall #1, '24)

That's a tough stack to be sandwiched into.
