image.gifSpeedy Recovery Ship, thanks for bringing us all so much joy!

His accident had to be during a controlled burn. Those can be tricky.

terrible

🤘🤘🤘

Please post any updates when available. There are a lot of people around here who really care about him.

Craig Way just said he's in critical but stable condition.

Have no idea who this is but:

Saw this on FB….posted about 8:30 pm:

Update: Doctor just came out and gave the report. He’s out of surgery and it went well. 20% of his body is burned, legs and arms are going to be okay. Throat looked much better than they thought it was going to. The main burn concern is his hands, but thankfully it is spots and not his entire hands. We won’t know more details for the next day or two about the extent. He’s getting scans done right now since they think the skid steer flipped to make sure the rest of his body is ok. Overall better news than we expected. He’s still intubated and will be until tomorrow, they’re going to check to make sure his throat still looks okay. They’re letting Sunny back there after scans.

Pray against infection and pneumonia- that’s the main concern right now

Definitely sounds like may have been running a controlled burn if a skid steer was involved.

Big open wounds are not fun in a hospital

Same with burned throat and lungs. He's got a long road ahead of him but it sounds like they got him treatment relatively quickly

Burnt airways have to be managed aggressively and immediately or they swell shut and you’re not getting them open.

Given the timeline presented I would be optimistic that his airway should be rather unscathed if they were able to get him intubated without cric’ing him. If so, then the intubation was more precautionary than anything.

I had a buddy that got burned really badly in a steam blowdown. It took him a really long time before he was at his new normal. Hope it’s not as bad for Shipley.

All the super bugs hang out in the hospital hallways. One thing that I can always count on - getting sick when I go to the hospital. Took home RSV last time I was there (visiting my mom). Shoulda wore a mask.

Hoping for the best for Jordan. Take nothing for granted. Ugh.

Was just watching him and his beautiful bride on a TV special the other day.
Prayers, warm cool wishes, and I hope you get the best pain meds legal or not.

Yep, you should’ve worn a mask.

Get well soon, JS.

If you want some scary numbers, about 100k annual deaths are from hospital-acquired infections (“nosocomial infections”) and some 250k overall are caused by medical interventions itself eg unintentional errors (“iatrogenesis”)

I'd be happy to change the title. Not sure how to do it.

A guy I knew was in an explosion of sorts of a propane grill. It got into his airways and lungs and he was dead within 72 hours because of this.

Nope

Wow that's horrible. Get better Ship.

While I am leary of the roller coaster of hopium and despair when following a serious situation like this, I hope that positive (under the circumstances) assessment is correct.

Obviously I have no idea what happened, but I've heard a couple skid steer horror stories where a hydraulic line burst while the arms were up, sprayed on the exhaust/engine and caught fire and the drivers couldn't get the door all the way open because the bucket/arms wouldn't go down properly

I've already been to one funeral in the last year that involved tractors. I don't want to hear about it with Jordan. Get well soon

I worked in that ICU for a long time, and I took care of a lot of burn patients while I was there. Still in touch with several nurses and surgeons there. Every hospital has its problems, and Dell Seton sucks in a lot of ways, but the people who care for patients in the SICU are some of the absolute best.

Don't want to use the term "lucky" as 20 % and mostly hands is a serious burn, but this could have been so much worse.

From reading reports, he was intubated for airway protection and per the extent of his burns. Keeping on a vent for now will help with pain management and maintaining protection of his airway and lungs from even from the slightest singe or inhalation burns.

Its great now that Dell Seton has a better than good burn center and has kept down the need for patients to be flown to Fort Sam (BAMC) in SA for treatment. Healing of his hands will take some time but the wound care and rehab for those injuries are so much better now than just 5 or 10 years ago.

Prayers for a healthy and speedy recovery. 🙏 🤘

awesome to hear that it wasn't as bad as feared.

also, blessed that Jesus happened to be in Burnet at the time
