This is such a common and strange reaction from aggies I meet living and working in Austin.  It's not like it should be any surprise encountering Texas grads in the same city where the university is located-- if you choose to live here you really ought to know what you're getting into.  If encountering Texas grads is going to be a remarkable and unpleasant experience for you, then Austin is probably not the city for you.

To be fair, I have a similar, yet more polite, response when encountering aggy--

"Oh, my condolences. "

These people really are stupid.  8-4 would be a great first year for them.  I hope they go 6-6.

That's the basic Aggie problem in a nutshell. They're so convinced that they're great that they need immediate vindication. It's not enough that averaging 8-4 over the years makes you a pretty decent team, or that every team has down years from time to time, or that this is Elko's first year in a bit of a rebuild. They so desperately crave affirmation of their greatness that they try to will it into being based on nothing but hopium.

Every school has its overly hopeful fans, but Aggie takes it to a whole other level of psychosis.

So yeah, Jimbo knew the right chicken to pluck.

48-7 at Kyle field would put my kidneys on high fucking alert.

Baylor beat them at home 46-0 in 1901 (according to Google AI) ... Worst loss at pyle for the farmers. I can see Texas putting a 65 - 10 or less beating on them next season.

From the Google AI on the prompt - Worst loss at home for Texas A&M Football -

Defining "worst" can be tricky, but there are a couple contenders for the worst home loss in Texas A&M history depending on how you weigh factors like score and opponent. Here are two that frequently come up in discussions:

  • 1901 vs. Baylor (0-46): This one holds the dubious honor of being the biggest defeat ever suffered by the Aggies at home. Baylor, which is now a Big 12 conference foe, was a much weaker program at the turn of the 20th century.

  • 2008 vs. Arkansas State (14-17): This loss was a shocker because Arkansas State was a major underdog from a much smaller Sun Belt Conference. It was also the Aggies' first home opening loss in over two decades, marking a low point for the program at that time.

Some fans might also mention the 2017 Rose Bowl vs. UCLA (44-45), where the Aggies famously choked away a huge lead. However, that wasn't a home game.

It’s even worse. They also constantly believe “Texas isn’t so great”. In the years where Texas puts it all together, they don’t amend that belief, and chalk it up to “Texas is lucky and the system is rigged”. They convince themselves that the secret isn’t to make the team as good as possible, and the program as strong as possible, but instead to seek out that easy path so they can get lucky, too.

A nugget from my Google News feed ... (can do you unwind a click algorithm?)

Gig Em Gazette

Quote

Rumors are emerging that the Aggies are in great shape for both guys. I think the need at receiver is evident, and that showed up big time in the spring game. The injury to Jabre Barber has increased the need at that spot, so an easy path to playing time has to factor in here for both Lambert-Smith and Brown.

2 paragraphs later...

As I've mentioned before, even after the departure of Evan Stewart, the Aggies' top-line talent in the receiving room is second to none in the nation. Noah Thomas's amazing play in the Maroon and White spring game testified to that. However, the other side of that coin is that the depth is a huge concern—something else that showed up in yesterday's contest.

So, "the top line talent in the receiving room is second to none", and the "need at receiver showed up big time in the spring game."

"Noah Thomas' amazing play" - the ball clearly hits the ground.

Bryce Foster? FAFO.

We're wishcasting onto Elko the same qualities that we wishcasted onto Jimbo.  With no evidence besides players jumping ship like rats.  And with zero self awareness or sense of irony per usual.  Carry on, good ags.

Couldn't have Elko, you know motivated Foster to practice? Its one thing to have a slow or bad player, another to reward a locker room cancer with praise or attention, but to have a dude motivated more by throwing rocks over football to be a big coaching red flag, nah they are aggies eveyrone that transfers hurt their little egos so good riddance to them lol.

Elko should have just gone Junction Boys/Bear Bryant on Foster's ass.  Bear Bryant was perhaps the greatest coach of all time and clearly Foster was crying out for help. Foster could have been a high first round draft choice and needed a strong father figure to instill some discipline.

Charlie went tried this tactic and we had about 15 players leave that season.  I remember reading and celebrating the purge at the time.  Aggy is in for a rude awakening.  Luckily with NIL, it's easier to turn over a roster with talent.  But they are bringing in bread.  They are going to SUUUUUUCK and this will be a 4-5 year rebuild for them to get this program competitive.  They will never see it though because they will fire Elko after 3 years and the next coach will repeat the process.

He's back!

Also, lol at the "if the sips don't blow out defending national champs Michigan it'll be a long season in Austin." I love this little bit of mental gymnastics. Preemptively diminishing the importance of Texas' hypothetical future wins is an impressive amount of pre-cope.

"Elko is officially doing what we thought Jimbo was doing but have since learned otherwise" is just amazing.

did they think hobbit was officially or unofficially not doing what elk is now officially doing?  that's key....

also,, going forward, we need to drop the "the" and the "o"

aggy is singular, plural, etc.etc.

thus

there is no longer "the elk" nor is there any longer "elko"

he is aggy

he is elk

Disagree.  He should have gone to UCLA or Oregon for track & field and gotten as far away from the Peacock family as possible.

where do they get this shit?  everyone here is excited about the opportunity the big house affords to us, and NO ONE in our camp expects us to win or has this marked as must-win or guaranteed win

I love the guy who says our SEC schedule is going to be cake and it was gift wrapped.  Thought it was a tough conference?  🤣  Those nimrods are scared shitless.

Yep.  One of the posts, "It's not the SEC West like we're used to".
