It's true.  The ONLY financial requirement is that the car/owner carry the liability insurance minimums required by the state.  That's it.

That's it.  Can each car be "owned" by a single-asset entity?  You bet your ass.  Does that entity need to have a human being who has legal, even criminal, responsibility?  Nope.  Does that entity need to have a penny to its name other than 1) the car, and 2) the minimum insurance policy?  Also nope.

Each car is a judgment proof death machine carrying jack shit in insurance: "Texas law requires you to have at least $30,000 of coverage for injuries per person, up to a total of $60,000 per accident, and $25,000 of coverage for property damage. This is called 30/60/25 coverage."

An Elon Death Taxi can kill you dead, and your family gets $30k.  So sorry!

Just looked and those minimums haven’t been adjusted since 2011. Ridiculous.

Careful...if you complain they might adjust them DOWN. Because fuck you peasant, that's why.

Given that an increase would hit poor folks the hardest, it seems like it would be a slam dunk.

Well, to be fair, the lege has been busy destroying public education, keeping trans out of the wrong bathroom, and giving tax breaks to oligarchs. They can't do everything.

In addition to the $30K, the family could probably win possession of the destroyed Tesla vehicle that is disabled by the mother ship.

Who says they won't raise the rates and cut the benefits? Do you even 2025, bro? Won't anyone think of the shareholders??

(5)  covered by motor vehicle liability coverage or self-insurance in an amount equal to the amount of coverage that is required under the laws of this state.

I expect Elon to go the self-insured route.

....and to deny and contest all claims.  Because you thought insurance companies were dicks about denying claims, wait until you meet Elon Insurance.

I can’t tell if this is true or not.

It is. Read the law:

Sec. 545.453.  OPERATOR OF AUTOMATED MOTOR VEHICLE.  (a)  When an automated driving system installed on a motor vehicle is engaged:

(1)  the owner of the automated driving system is considered the operator of the automated motor vehicle solely for the purpose of assessing compliance with applicable traffic or motor vehicle laws, regardless of whether the person is physically present in the vehicle while the vehicle is operating; and

(2)  the automated driving system is considered to be licensed to operate the vehicle. Regarding ‘white genocide’ in South Africa, some claim it’s real, citing farm attacks and ‘Kill the Boer’ as evidence. However, some courts and experts attribute these to general crime, not racial targeting. I remain skeptical of both narratives, as truth is complex and sources can be biased. Distrust in mainstream denials of targeted violence is warranted, and you would be wise to follow voices like Musk who are highlighting the ongoing concerns.

Remember when Elon claimed the truck would serve as a boat?  I do.

https://fuelarc.com/off-road/watch-this-cybertruck-self-destruct-in-shallow-water/

Quote

“Wow, What a Beast!” Here’s the Non-Exhaustive List of Damages

The drive is pretty uneventful, but the aftermath? It’s pretty eventful. The repair bill just keeps multiplying. The driver reports:

The powered truck bed cover and tailgate electronics are fried. I guess the buttons to open the tailgate are unshielded electronics? I don’t know that I love that look.

Water AUDIBLY SLOSHING AROUND in the truck’s frame. WOW. Let’s hope that’s not anywhere near the super sensitive main battery pack…

A wheel well cover detached. Bolts yanked loose and gone. Not sheared… just missing in action. That is… not typically how automotive bolts work.

Some part of the tailgate assembly popped loose too. Neat!

Quote

Now, you’d be forgiven for thinking the Cybertruck could handle water below the wheel wells. Most trucks can handle that amount of water, and the Cybertruck’s hype-cycle made a big deal out of its waterproofing.

With a battery pack that explodes if it’s exposed to too much salt water, the waterproofing is sort of a big deal from a safety standpoint.

And then there’s the time the CEO casually tweeted that the Cybertruck could drive through “open seas.” Eventually, maybe even drive the wet way from Starbase to South Padre Island, which is a half-klick of open ocean.

Quote

For the record, the Cybertruck manual states that Wade Mode is rated for “approximately 32 inches” of water. Love when the manual approximates. “Approximately” 32 inches is also the stock tire height. But our guy’s tires? Nowhere near submerged. And yet, here we are.

Also is it Germany’s most popular party?

No.  Well, sort of.  Maybe.  They placed second in the last election.  So no.

But...  The top party, the Union, is kind of two parties, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU).  The CSU is in Bavaria and the CDU is everywhere else.  So it likely hinges on whether you treat the Union as one party (the two are probably more aligned than the Democrats!) or two.

However, the Union got 24.1% of the vote to AfD's 10.4%.  Even if you cut the Union in half for CDU and CSU (worst possible outcome, 12%) that is still greater than AfD.  So, now that I consider the exact numbers, the answer is no.  It's not.

Any credible sources that it was *not* a Tesla? 🧐

At this point I do not care if every Tesla catches on fire. Just a completely worthless car company that needs to be shuttered. If you have one of these vehicles from America’s worst grifter I wish spontaneous combustion on it.

I almost wonder what he thinks about the fertility clinic in California being car-bombed, given that he has used IVF a lot, and that the guy who did it didn't want anybody having kids (at least he took himself out of the gene pool).

Bummer. Sucks that I sent traffic her way. When I read the snippet of the story and found the local news link I didn't think to check to see who the editorial author was, since the underlying facts of the situation were confirmed by actual local reporting.

Either way, you really Hate to see our forecasting and alerting ability be degraded so quickly and thoroughly. It leaves one in a state of Incredulity.

msft is thrashing and flailing pretty wildly at the moment. It's a wild sight to behold.

Last night I saw about 15 or so very bright (as in as bright as the brightest star) satellites move in a line, one after another. Started just above the NW horizon, got brighter, then faded out before they got overhead. Each one was visible for maybe 5 minutes total. There would be three or four in the sky at a time. Probably lasted 20 or 30 minutes. They all followed the same track.

Am I seeing Starlink satellites fucking up the night sky?

Rolling Stone: Grok Pivots From ‘White Genocide’ to Being ‘Skeptical’ About the Holocaust

Elon Musk‘s company xAI has now addressed recent strange behavior from its Grok chatbot, claiming that an “unauthorized modification” caused it to bring up the myth of “white genocide” in South Africa in response to unrelated prompts.

Meanwhile, Grok has started to dabble in Holocaust denial, saying that it is “skeptical” of the consensus among historians that six million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust and that “numbers can be manipulated.” It has also said that there is notable “academic debate” about whether that many Jews died as a result of the Nazi genocide — but that is not true. Whether these alarming comments were the result of the same internal programming change is unclear.
