Cruz vs Beto

Got this from the Beto campaign a few minutes ago.
Hi 7.5incher, this is such-and-such w/ Beto for Texas. You're invited to a mock Get Out the Vote operation that we're having in Austin on Thu 08/23 in preparation for Nov 6! Staff will be hosting phone banks and block walks all day.  Event details are here: https://act.betofortexas.com/event/action/12350 Can you make it?
Cannot recall a candidate, national or local/state, outside of Obama, putting this much effort into campaign.  And I volunteered in 2000 for W (we all have our youthful indiscretions).   I get sporadic stuff from other candidates (and I didn’t tell them to take me off their lists).

We talking bout practice?

Every single time the Republicans get in control of the WH and Congress they go on a huge spending splurge while massively cutting revenue. It is fiscal insanity. It is a literal money grab every single time. They are not principled. They are not responsible. They are dangerous to our Nation. And they should be voted out until they become responsible and start following sound, reasonable economic sense.

edit no longer an option so quoting myself...

and the kicker is that this is redistribution of wealth from the middle and lower classes to the upper class and corporations. it is corporate and social welfare for those who need it least. it is a handout. it is maddening that they will blatantly do this for corporations and the wealthiest dressed up in the name of economic stimulus and trickle down but will criticize and rail against any attempts to redistribute to the middle and lower classes, the ones who actually need it, as entitlements, socialism and handouts to those dirty, stinking, lazy poor people who refuse to take personal responsibility.  In other words, if it redistributes to the wealthiest, well that is just capitalism at its finest but if it goes to the people who actually need it, well that is socialism and communism and lack of personal responsibility. never mind that the definition and concept of socialism is completely lost and misunderstood by these people. unfortunately, the Republicans have convinced all of the rubes that any government program that gives money to people who need it is socialism and not part of a democratic - capitalistic society, and that could not be further from the truth.

i am ready for candidates like Beto to restore responsibility in politics. i hope there are many more who follow after him.

I do like what little I know about Ted Cruz. Not sure how that makes one a cuck. I just find the generalized stereotype of Beto fans (what I’ve seen here at least, manlet incel looking guys with alt-country tastes and middle aged women with crushes on a good looking peer/contemporary) to be funny and I’m curious how real the wave is...and that it would be funny if he got smashed, however unlikely.

This is the worst thing ive ever seen online.  And i stumbled upon goatse

Agreed. He drifts into un-american xenophobia and anti-west racial prejudice, his takes are light, hot garbage, he posts twitter hoaxes, and he's got even less understanding about the nexus of policy and economics than @slorch without the empathy and amusing wit, but he's within the rules.

No, all rep in the Politics forum is bullshit. If we're going to have rep in here, then a few brave warriors will make sure it's not just a circle jerk of pos rep inflation.

Republicans understand perfectly how to help their corporate donors make more money at the cost of the America taxpayer.  At least they no longer try and hide it these days.

It's Reaganomics being taken to an extreme. They've never been about trying to hide it. Pretty soon we will have AnCaps in politics.

Yes...from 2013.

Cruz ran for President and was the last candidate to drop out.  I don't doubt that he missed more votes than the rest who...weren't running for President.

But I'm sure you said the same about Obama?  Especially given his 'present' votes?

Reading comprehension, "Since 2013 not in 2013."

Is corn aggy seriously arguing that the United States doesn't suffer from a culture of corruption?

Just poor and non-white corruption. Why would rich people and corporations want welfare?

And MS-13.  MS-13 is threatening to overrun places like College Station, East Texas in general, numerous ranches, Williamson County, basically everywhere there are Republicans, MS-13 is out to force feed them drugs and marry their daughters.

You forgot about their latest plank from the conference last week: they've adopted Sharia Law.

Did you order the Beto order, or did you puss out and ask if they serve real Ted Cruz-style poutine?

I don't eat triple-meat burgers, if that's what you're asking. I had my own Jalapeno Cheeseburger + about 1/4 of my wife's order before she noticed that I was eating that by mistake.

I wanted a Canadian Weasel Wrap, but they said that was only a choice this year in Texas.

If Beto wins, I think a lot of people will be ordering Triple Meat Whataburgers on November 7.

Why not either fucking way?

We win no matter what!!!

That shit's like aggy thinking they own "howdy."

Anyone know how long it normally takes to get one of those Beto shirts delivered?  I ordered a couple of them last week but still nothing.

Can't track the order either because my dumb ass didn't write down the order number and I sure as hell wasn't going to use my real email address in the order form lest I get spammed to death.

They take a while. My sign and tank top took like 2-3 weeks

From that article:

“In Del Rio, Markowski Smith told me that the people who usually come out to knock on doors in Latino neighborhoods to get out the vote for local elections are just not out there for Beto yet. Whether that’s because they haven’t been connected to the campaign or they don’t care about O’Rourke as a candidate remains unclear.”

That’s the most troubling thing about his campaign. Earlier paragraphs talked about the dem establishment not being behind him yet bc he’s not accepting their help. I bet he gets it right he’s got enough cash to send an army to these places and he’s yet to take a wrong step in the strategy he’s employing but this is where the rubber will meet the road. GOTV relative to the enthusiasm and momentum and he wins a nail biter.

Expand on this.  Were they calling in after the interview or what?

Some people called in to just whine about keeping politics out of our show, others were trolls showing up to shit all over our facebook page and threatening to stop listening and donating (uh, you're a rabid conservative and our station airs fucking "Democracy Now" every morning, do you really donate?). There was one lady who obviously didn't listen to one single second of the interview and showed up just looking for fights. She just saw our post that included the words "Beto O'Rourke" and lost her shit.

I've only been in Del Rio long enough to go to the post office. It struck me as different from Laredo, where Laredo and N. Laredo feel like 2 halves of the same city. Del Rio sits so far back from Acuna, I guess the river has a flood plain there, it just looked more "set apart" from the Mexican side. I could be completely wrong.

Only person I ever knew from there was a woman of Hispanic background who would not quit saying "YUniversidad".

Put the link here.  I’m sure several would want to listen.   You should rightfully be proud of it. No worries about humblebrag,  or some weird thing about self promotion, or anything here.

I'm guessing he would prefer not to be doxxed.

My wife's from Del Rio. She, thankfully, escaped. That town has some major gravity - its pretty hard for a large part of the population to escape and so they just kinda get stuck there for generations. There's maquilladora's, government and retail and that's about it. Went with her to her 20th reunion, that was a freaking blast. The kids that did escape, did really well. The ones that didn't, *sigh*. Anyways, I've met some great friends that she went to school with.

No...Cruz is a dependable conservative vote in the US Senate.
I don't always agree with Cruz...but I know the last thing DC needs is another fraudulent leftist.
To all my little leftist buddies here, like Huckleberry, who love to 'neg' my posts...please know that a single fuck is given.

Cruz doesn’t vote for the best interest of Texas though. That’s the thing.

The 2 senators per state really kill the potential of Texans being able to meet and give feedback to your senators.  Wyoming has 2 senators with their population of 580K, and Texas has 2 senators for 28.3 million.   California has 2 senators for close to 40 million.

My point being is that Beto is really taking the unprecedented step of trying to give everyone the chance to hear and meet him.  It's not easily repeatable.  Say hypothetically Beto wins, it's very doubtful that he would/could repeat this process in 2024.    And also I don't blame Cruz for not trying to copy Beto.  Cruz may regret it, but its a risk to spend time in so many spots.

Now if Texas had 9 senators, it doesn't change the math that it would still be close-to-impossible for any of the 9 to travel to each county but we could change senators to be super-representatives instead.    Instead of representing the full state, they represent ~3.1 million.    Still a big number but we lose the extremes of 500K and 40m.    By my proposal, Wyoming gets 0 senators but instead share 1 with some neighboring states.  (I know this is DOA because no way the small population state would ever agree to it.)

Looking back at the article, it sounds like Beto's lack of ground game in Del Rio could be a transactional failure-- he's road trip buddies with the R dude, hasn't endorsed the D lady... what, she's supposed to rally the troops for him?
It's not really a new problem either. Sema Hernandez won a good chunk of South Texas, about 35 percent of the votes, in the Democratic primary. Now, the people that bothered to go vote for a candidate they surely knew was gonna lose are probably invested enough to go vote for Beto in November, but it speaks to the fact that he is lagging down there for some resin.

To win, he has to fight to make serious in roads in the suburbs and secondary/tertiary metro areas (probably at least 40 percent across the board), run up the score in the big four plus EP, and get huge turnout on the border. It's not an "or" thing, it's all of them. He is doing better at step one than I thought he could, and step two isn't really hard in this political climate. It looks to me like the latter is the biggest issue right now. I'm not sure it will be solved in the next two months when it's been a consistent issue. Hope it will though.

It takes a while.  I got tired of the wait so I went to the local BETO HQ.  They should have shirts for sale (the one in Austin does), get one and be done with it.  It's better to check them out in person especially if you have tits.  The shirts are kinda grabby.  You might need an email to check out, but use the fake one.  Get a sticker for your ride while you're at it.
