This game will come down to if we can keep them from grinding the clock.  They like to go on time churning, 10-15 play drives that take up half a quarter.  With our inefficient offense we can't let that happen.  I would prefer we be ultra aggressive on D and if we give up a long score, so be it.

With Caldwell, our offense could suddenly become efficient. We shall see.

Weeks actually played that game, with Perkins primarily spying. Idk where to even begin with this team, especially given the Sark rumors. Somehow, we keep winning. Hopefully, with us playing at home for the first time in a month, that streak will continue.

Whit was definitely out that game.  I'm sure they spied some and I wasn't on the game start to finish but I was surprised how often they played man with nobody on the QB and gave Pavia a ton of space to escape pocket.   Pavia was their leading rusher that game but only managed 20 yards against Mizzou.

What glimmer of hope we had with Arch and hurry up spread em out offense is gone bc we have to use a new QB.  This will likely lead to Sark staying stubborn with his overall double TE bunched up slow ass predictable offense.

I hope Caldwell doesn't get killed

Is Caldwell mobile at all? He'll still have to deal with the shitty OL and may have to take off more than a few times like Arch.

He's got enough wiggle and speed to escape the pocket, its just a matter of how good is his feel for the pocket breaking down in relation to trying to hold onto the ball long enough for his routes to develop. Sure would help if his routes took shorter rather than longer.

Wouldn't It Be Nice...if we could beat Vandy easily? God Only Knows.

He has our longest run of the year.

Agreed with these points. Akina / PK called uncharacteristically soft coverages last week. I don't know if we saw something in MSU's offense that we didn't like or what, but it was strange.

Watching the first half, it seemed like PK bet Shapen couldn't consistently make good decisions and accurate throws on the intermediate stuff. And then he did. At least until the 4th quarter. Also, Akina can't coach zone to save his life.

What's the dynamic in the locker room with the Sark rumors having time to bake in?

This is some silly shit to worry about. If this was a concern it would have revealed itself on Saturday. This is a flawed team but they play hard for 4 quarters and play for each other.

Yes. He's got wheels. I guess we'll see what his pocket-presence is like, though.

Our defense matches up really well with Vandy.

Pavia is looking to nickel and dime with short throws and option running, and generate just enough YAC to turn 3yd plays into 5yd plays.  Were not exactly elite in coverage but our entire secondary are big strong athletes that can play the run. Both corners can sit in shallow cover two and play the wide option (really helps the LBs and Edges). Mcdonald is particularly good at this type of game running the alley from depth and erasing runs (this was his breakout game last year). We negate enough of that YAC and Vandy goes from a 27pt offense to a 13pt offense quickly. Taaffe is the true difference maker bc hes so cerebral, so if hes out that is a factor, but D Williams is good against this style too.

Taaffe out last week had a pretty obvious impact imo. Not sure he's the best player on our D but along with MM I think he's the most important. Ant is a monster but feels like you could kind of cobble together some of his production if he was out. Taaffe isn't a lockdown-cover safety but he is vocal and and on-the-field leader and is really good against the run game. We just don't have anyone to replace what he brings. All that said - hopefully with the film from last week and a week of prep we get some better safety play this weekend and guys get a bit more comfortable.

From the initial timeline I'm assuming he misses another game?

Vandy receivers have sneaky speed, but they aren’t all out speed merchants like MSU and Florida have. A&M has similar speed at WR.

Hopefully we see tighter coverage this week.
