Our government's mushmouthed approach to the truth is infuriating.  Just stop dancing around the issue.

What lay people kinda know is that the vaccine helps reduce or nearly eliminate severe illness, hospitalization, and death.  What is not commonly known is how well the vaccine protects against CATCHING the virus in the first place.  There are probably data out there, but the average Joe doesn't read JAMA, etc.

A direct quote from CDC:

COVID-19 vaccines are effective at keeping you from getting COVID-19, especially severe illness and death. COVID-19 vaccines reduce the risk of people spreading the virus that causes COVID-19.

What exactly does that mean?  What % of fully vaccinated Americans catch covid compared to unvaccinated Americans?  How fucking hard is this?  The messaging failures are infuriating.  The truth is always the best approach.

Israel early data was 64% against infection and 94% against severe infection. More recent data suggest both of those are too high, but they aren't reporting specifics. They are checking for statistical issues. It doesn't sound like good news.

Back then, the ministry said the vaccine was 64 percent effective in preventing infection and 93 percent effective in preventing serious illness. But figures presented Sunday evening to the coronavirus task force indicate that both numbers were too high

Data supposed to be released later this week.

Welp, it finally happened. I snapped in public today. I went into work for a bit this morning because I’m trying to figure out the safest way to host physicians we are recruiting given our CV-19 sit

  • I don't really know what to say anymore tbh. What happened last night is hard to put into words for anyone who hasn't worked in a hospital healthcare setting. Just unreal. Everyone is getting fucked.

Except you won’t find any doctors who oppose the vaccine because they receive money from the Covid industry.

I asked not long ago if someone who killed Tucker would be a national hero. I think we all know the answer.

All I hear is about how these fucks are being censored. Tucker is a piece of shit.

In all seriousness, if a drop of 2% in the market leads 2% of the population to get vaccinated that otherwise wouldn’t have, it’s worth it. I’m glad they are finally turning up the notch. Hopefully they continue to do so.

Jesus Christ on a big wheel, this feels like when my best buddy and I had to practically escort his dumbass little brother through high school.  Oh, NOW Sean Hannity is (sorta) espousing somewhat reasonable advice as far as the vaccine goes?

It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the red base dying off at an increasingly precipitous rate, now, could it?

If Fox is looking for a way to get on the vaccine side of things without having to eat crow, I'm totally fine with them telling everyone Delta variant is way worse, we were right about the original one, but now you really should get a shot.  Don't really care if they do some touchdown dance.  Let's just all get on the side of shots.

I no longer care what they do so long as they have the common decency to crawl into the woods and die alone to spare us from their stupidity. It’s caused enough damage to this country already and we finally have a chance to swing things back to normalcy.

In other “Antivax nutjobs fuck around and find out” news, an AirBnB listing that banned vaccinated guests has been banned from the site. (Updates in thread).

Agree.

Covid is a economic headwind for the economy (households as well). The vaccine truthers create unfunded negative externalities that ripple through every sector (households as well). They are free riders in the economic sense of that term.

Those who cannot get vaccinated are not free riders. By definition, they cannot vaccinate. The willingly unvaccinated threaten those most vulnerable who cannot vaccinate. Immoral.

100% this. Zero responsibility for anything associated with the common good. No society can survive that.

With Covid Delta coming on strong, it might be the thing that wakes up enough of the country to start questioning Republicans, thus leading to their losing enough credibility to have pretty much anything they push questioned.

Gonna be following this closely. Supposedly the fact that almost everyone there is vaccinated may be skewing the data. Hopefully that's the case.

You know, I do not feel a little bit sorry for her.

A somewhat heated vax debate broke out on our $9.95 site, and usually that shit gets shut down, but there was enough intelligent talk that the mods let it go.  This guy pretty much summed up my thinking, albeit in a much more eloquent way than I could.

Quote

That’s exactly the point. There are no sides on this issue. You either believe in science, which, over 200+ years has proven to an inarguable extent that vaccines are the safest and most effective way to prevent virus infection and transmission, or you’re an idiot who has been duped by a corrupt political machine trying to make a political issue out of something that simply isn’t.

Flat earthers would have you believe that there are legitimately two sides to that argument as well, but there aren't. There are facts, and there are a bunch lunatics who believe something that was disproven over 2,000 years ago.

There is an insidious notion these days that all opinions deserve equal consideration, and they simply don’t. Expertise is a real thing, and the opinions of people who are experts (like virologists for example) deserve orders of magnitude more weight than the average schmo with an internet connection.

So yes, I believe that anti-vaxxers are not only idiots, they are dangerous to society. It’s unfortunate if some people are offended by that, but perhaps people should consider why they are offended and realize that they’re wrong.

Quote

Science isn’t groupthink.

I’m not citing _____ and _______’s perspective as evidence of my correctness, I’m citing it as evidence as to why the thread hasn’t been deleted.

As far as pejoratives I’ve as directed at anti-vaxxers, the truth hurts. If it makes you feel better I’ll use more descriptive terms: anti-vaxxers are ignorant, gullible, socially irresponsible, and narcissistic people who lack critical thinking skills. If that’s better in your mind than simply using the terms idiots, then great, I can abide that.

Note that I have not referred pejoratively to any individual poster in this thread, or otherwise. I’ve referred to people of a certain dangerous ideology as idiots.

I’m beginning to believe lawmakers have been briefed on how bad this is about to get again and they’re freaked out. And may have leaked it to the Fox News folks too.

Apparently up to 6 in the tx delegation now, one WH aide, one Pelosi aide.  All vaccinated, most asymptomatic.

In reading the NYTimes covid page, its pretty scary. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/covid-cases.html

Over the last 2 weeks, the Times is showing a +198% increase in cases, +45% in hospitalizations and +44% in deaths. BUT the crazy part is that the # of tests are down 13% over that timeframe.  That many fewer tests is a puzzling change and makes me wonder if there are even that many more cases out there undetected or the person just assumes they have covid.

As far as what everyone is saying above, Congress probably has been told to expect the Missouri, Arkansas and Florida worsening conditions to be nationwide soon. And that the Delta virus won't spread as slowly as the original.

As Bama Chick mentioned, this must explain why Fox News is now wanting its viewers to get vaccinated.  the more MAGA supporters contract the Delta variant and die, the fewer R voters there will be in 2024 to support Trump.

Biden could get all of them to vaccinate next week.  just come out and say, "Hey MAGA, don't get vaccinated.  More of you will die and won't be able to support Trump in 2024.  That benefits the Dems.  Thanks!"  vaccine sites would be flooded by MAGA.

Edited by Jive Turkey

That would be like some kind of checkmate on the MAGA mouthpieces like Abbott.

COVID deaths will not get into electorally significant numbers, so I don't think that is the reasons.  2MM deaths nationwide is less than 5,000 per congressional district.  Half don't vote. Then even if it is 2-1 Rs dying, that's like an 800 vote net gain.   You'd have to really nail the distribution exactly on a close race to matter in even a single congressional election.

I think they are out of an election year and don't feel like they are risking anything by supporting it now.  The delta variant makes for convenient excuse to switch because they can claim it is something different and not a change of position.

It was easier to prop up the echo chamber of "Question the vaccines" for ratings/poll numbers when cases continued trending downward and the vaxxed were doing the heavy lifting of herd immunity. But it's about to get bad, and they all know they're complicit. Plus... they. are. all. vaccinated.

While I agree deaths might not impact the vote that much, there are going to be a lot of people who get really sick, and fall behind financially, or lose their jobs.  Not to mention things already creeping higher like food and building supplies.    All that can be laid at the feet of leaders who didn't take covid seriously, much less misdirected their public.   If the Dems are smart, they play this up.
