I think you guys are forgetting the old “every accusation is a confession” mantra of the GOP. I think it is more likely she had a man and now wants to move that relationship forward.

Now she gets to move on cleanly since she really tried, and Ken’s the asshole that broke their sacred vows.

So the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny caused him to stick his dick in someone other than his wife's holiest of holies? Man, it must be great to use your faith as a get out of jail free card. Of course, you certainly don't extend that grace to anyone else, you fucking piece of shit. I hope it all spills out and MAGA sees yet another charlatan they put their dipshit faith behind.

This is the same party that elected Donald Trump after the "grab them by the pussy" tape, elected him again after covering up hush payments to a porn star, and will elect him again (after the Roberts Court rules he can run for a third term) when they now pretty much know he's all over the Epstein files for having sex with trafficked minors.

The divorce and whatever scandalous details of Ken's affairs come out of it don't matter.  If the voters still see Paxton as more MAGA than Cornyn, Cornyn will get his ass whupped.

The word of the lord.

Hi. First time caller, also first time listener…

Can someone give me the background tea here on the divorce? I know Paxton is a corrupt piece of shit, but I haven’t followed him closely and hadn’t planned to unless he won the Senate primary.

No one really knows.  It was well-known by the time of impeachment that he had been carrying on with this Olson woman, and had been since his Nate Paul connections were revealed.  Paul was raided by the FBI in 2019 and rumors swirled about their connection.  The shit hit the fan with the whistleblower lawsuit in late 20 or early 21, where it was alleged that one of the ties between Paxton and Paul was that Paul hired Olson in his Austin office to bring her closer to Paxton. https://www.texastribune.org/2021/02/11/ken-paxton-whistleblowers-texas-bribe/

I suspect someone from Cornyn's camp showed her some bad general election polling and she realized she didn't want to risk being married to a guy who might lose a statewide race to a Democrat.

And that's how we (as Texans) got into this mess in the first place. People like Paxton thrive due to low information voters who blindly pull the lever for the (R) candidate, even if they would blanche at what that candidate is/does/stands for if they actually took a little time to educate themselves.

But, it won't change. Go read the LBJ biographies by Robert Caro. This has been going on in Texas since reconstruction.

Is he really polling badly here?  In Texas?  I have heard Ronny Jackson say that, but he's delulu.

I wonder if it isn't a timing thing, file get it out of the way before the primary, get some extra goodies.

Well, the election that propelled LBJ was between two Democrats.

Ain’t no fuckin way Paxton would lose a general statewide. He smoked a young Latina from Brownsville in 22 by 10 pts.

While your point is 100% valid and applies you at least 90% of Texans (I.e., idiots), bateshorn lives in Maryland or Virginia.

though given his career, I still find it surprising he’s not that familiar with Paxton’s general awfulness given the national profile he’s tried to cultivate in being on the vanguard of the race to the bottom.

Right. But the point Caro was making was that if LBJ got into the Senate (and the House before that), the voters of Texas would re-elect him no matter what. That's just what they do.

There's been some pretty bad general election polls against unnamed Dems, IIRC. This far out, without a Dem candidate, I think those are basically meaningless, but maybe some Republicans disagree. I dunno.

Of course, pedocon theory being a theory like gravity is a theory, maybe we're about to hear some breaking news about him molesting kids.

FWIW, I'm in DC, so I generally don't pay attention to primaries unless something like this blows up, or the primary winner is a lock. But your point is well taken.

Angela has leverage over Ken at this point because he wants to get his senate campaign under way. He can't afford her divorcing him in the middle of a race so she can ask for the moon now. If Ken has billionaire backers, they may have to write her a very large check to walk away after signing a NDA. I could see her wanting a high 7 or low 8 figure settlement. I don't think he has it but others do.

Since it's not uncommon for a senator to only face a tough race the first time, Paxton could easily be senator for the next 24 years.

If there's anyone on this board involved with statewide Dem campaigns, a compilation of Republican politicians over the last decade saying "it could have been worse" overlaid with footage of all the disasters/shootings/whatever that they are referencing... and wrapped up with "why aren't we asking if it could have been better?" is basically a slam dunk ad idea that they are gifting the Dems yet nobody wants to take the shot.
