ditch all their electronics and they're much harder to find. also ....

This dude is going get some serious mileage with the crowd who doesn’t think D’s are fighting hard enough, depending upon how he handles it.  I’m not sure I know what that even is.   He’s also taking the risk of getting his nuts kicked somehow.
I do find his addition to this is actually making me more interested because my assumption is and was, that they will just cave like always and the new maps pass.

I mean, sure.  Why not?

The concept that the House of Representatives is representative of very much of anything is pretty much dead.  All we're doing now is putting a second bullet in the head of our democracy.

If they really want a futile and stupid gesture they should show back up for the vote like the Delta Tau Chis showed back up for the Faber Homecoming Parade.

In all seriousness some form of this NEEDS to happen. Its the only way to get any attention.

I kinda hope we see Texas move forward with this effort, because I think the Republicans will fuck it up and not gain the 5 seats as promised. Trump won't be on the ballot in 26, and lots of independents don't like this version of him. I think the Rs may be putting other seats in jeopardy that they assume are safe, and this could lead to a some upheaval in the state reps currently in power. It wouldn't be the worst thing if that happened even if the numbers slightly change.

More importantly, this nakedly obvious illegal and unethical power grab will give several blue states the motivation and reason to do the same, in a way that will be a huge net positive for the Dems seats in Congress. They have to fight fire with fire, and if they actually believe their warnings of "losing democracy forever" are true, then they need to occupy every seat possible to prevent it. California can definitely squeeze a few Rs out of power, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, etc could all pick up a few more seats. If they all do it, it would result in a seismic shift that could prevent the House from turning red for another decade.

The only reason Mike Johnson is even in power is because so many red and purple states have already done what Texas is threatening. So fuck them, fuck playing fair and doing the right thing, moral victories are for losers. Go win the damn thing and start blocking the dumb shit this administration spews out. Fight dirty, fight clean, whatever it takes, just actually fucking fight it.

This.  If the GOP does this, and the counter by D states sees the Rs go down - which is a real possibility - that may have some positive knock on effects.  Maybe then we will see bipartisan support for non-partisan map drawing boards and other common sense voter empowerment laws.

LOL.HAHHAHA.

Man, I crack myself up.

Yeah the only way that happens, and it absolutely should happen, is if Congress passes a new Voting Rights act and SCOTUS upholds it. Not happening for quite some time, so in the mean time they gotta play the game. I think there are a lot more seats to be gained by Dems in Blue states than what the Rs can squeeze out of their states.

nevermind that the last voting rights act was declared null and void because racism had been solved, according to Roberts.

The Texas House of Representatives voted on Monday to compel more than 50 Democratic Party lawmakers to return to the body in order to vote on a highly controversial redistricting effort to try and net the national Republican Party 5 more seats in Congress. The House officially empowered Texas state troopers and the House’s sergeant-at-arms to track down the members and arrest them, but they would not face any kind of charges under the order.

House Speaker Dustin Burrows (R) announced he would sign the arrest warrants after the vote on Monday, which are only valid inside Texas’s border – making them purely symbolic as the lawmakers have all fled the state.  Democrats are trying to delay the vote by not allowing the GOP-controlled body to have a quorum — a minimum number of members present in order to conduct official business.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) also ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to arrest the absent Democrats.

“Texas House Democrats abandoned their duty to Texans by fleeing the state, Texas House Democrats are holding hostage critical legislation to aid flood victims and advance property tax relief. There are consequences for dereliction of duty,” Abbott’s office said in a statement, adding:

If I were a House Democrat, I would call the press, go to New Mexico and stand right at the state line while occasionally putting my foot across the line and "Nanny-nanny boo-boo, come and get me Greg-O."

They should go one better.  Stand there armed, rifle pointed at the fucking cowards of DPS, and say "I wish a motherfucker would.  Hey, just pretend I'm a school shooter in Uvalde and run the other way."  You'll either get red-faced rage, or piss stains on their bloused pants.  Either way is a win.

Cowards.  We have a state governed of, by, and for cowards.  NOT of, by, and for Texas and Texans.  Change the fucking colors.  The GQP no longer deserves red.  Just give em yellow.  Fuck, make it a particular shade called "Uvalde yellow."

Was this vote not official business?

Most blue states have independent commissions. Most red states and many purple states do not. If the commissions went away, the Dems would net a bunch of seats.

Everyone is talking about California, but I think eliminating the commission in CA requires a ballot measure because it was enacted by ballot measure and a change in the state constitution. It's not a given that the voters will repeal it, since it's the kind of thing only partisan Dems would vote for.

The few Dem states that do gerrymander (NY, IL, MD) will need to go hard to the paint, as will the few more that have commissions set up by laws that can be repealed by the legislature. I don't think CA is the way.

I am sure it is very surprising to you, they dont give a fuck about children dying. Rich, poor, name a color, they dont care. What they care about more than anything is power. They also created and defend the mechanism for their removal. Someday the masses will realize it. If we voted for our interests as a whole, this would be over. Most vote out of spite and not for their livelihood.
