Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

We got lucky as fuck.  We had 2, and likely 3 blue chip OL fall into our laps with the Cristobal and Riley coaching changes. Then Ewers gave us some juice.  Things could have gone the other way with the currents flowing in a different direction or even just with different timing.  Still gotta show a much improved product on the field next season. We won't get lucky 2 seasons in a row.

Banks was never going to Oregon due to his family's medical issues. Williams did fall into our laps, but it's not like Flood is fucking Herb Hand. I think the single biggest thing that happened was Ewers announcing he would transfer, because the momentum from that point got serious.

Not really buying the Abor was trying to make Ohio State jealous stuff. It’s the dead period, but phones work both ways. He could have easily called Daytime Vampire Ryan Day. If Day isn’t taking Abor’s calls, then he shouldn’t sign with them.

1) He’s making Ohio State jealous

2) day isn’t some kind of “daytime vampire.” He’s a child fucker. Let’s not get confused about this. He brutally violates children.

Banks was going to Oregon, dude. He’s a serious kid, from a serious family, and despite his mom’s condition everyone took his commitment seriously, they were torn. Plus they accepted money. Youre talking out of your ass.

Maybe not to this extent but the idea of poaching 2 or 3 big time recruits from coaching changes and then another 2 or 3 big time players in the portal is no longer crazy talk.

You can do this almost every year if you're committed to it.

Obviously, getting a generational talent like Ewers doesn't happen every year but college football has changed so much recently with the amount of coaching changes and the number of quality players looking to hit the portal.

This has been happening in other sports for a while - not at the level of being able to grab 4-6 big time recruits via coaching changes/transfer portal in one offseason, but high quality, high talent players transferring into programs who seem to already have a wealth of talent.  College football was slow to join the Olympic sports that were already doing it - coaches see a deficiency in their team that might keep them from a Final Four/NC type of year, target a transfer or two and magically cure a weakness.

The tampering through HS coaches, travel ball coaches, AAU coaches, trainers, etc. is going to be looked at more closely because now CFB and MBB are in the transfer business.  No one cares about "tampering" when OU Softball is picking off high level transfers or Baylor WBB program gets some stud player from another program.  The money sports are going to end up getting it looked at more closely now.

A few things for the board that might be new or helpful:

1) Despite the naive take from denizens here that Brandon Harris is some sort of beloved character with recruits, a lot of recruits didn’t care for him. Miller and Bryce Anderson add two examples of recruitments where Harris was proven to have hurt UT’s chances, not aided them. He’s viewed as very immature and out of his depths by numerous parents.

2) Saban passed on Earnest Greene and several other high quality recruits because he has plans for spots on the roster from the portal. Bama is actively recruiting players currently on other teams through relationships of the player. Expect multiple All Conference, if not All America, type players to magically transfer to Bama.

3) Jacoby Matthews remains a contender target that Texas thinks they will land. This is in part a byproduct of point #2. Saban hasn’t pushed for him. Kelly has landed the LSU role about as well as Ho Li Fuk and Sum Ting Wong could have. A lot of Louisiana players and handlers aren’t feeling him yet and that also impacts Matthews. So, Texas could fall ass backwards into this one and folks should keep paying attention there.

4) Not much is coming out of Belmont, so the conclusion that the Friday signing was Campbell is probable but not certain.

5) LTG, Abor, Campbell, and Matthews are the only long running recruitments that folks are taking seriously. Might be a new recruit or two that comes to light though.

6) It sounds like there’s a lot of confidence with various targets in the portal, including WR.

Thanks CTJ;  BTW,  Only 6500 posts?  As a long time reader that seldom posts,  Its seems most things I stop down to read are things you posted,  or topics you initiated.    Would have guessed double that amount of posts.  Quality over quantity!     To add a little something here,  my 21 year old son (played at SLC ahead of QE) has been around QE a bit this month - said he's "chill, ready to ball"  My old man translator thinks that's a good thing.

i was under the impression that matthews was an lsu-agro fight. So we are a legitimate part of the convo now?

Also, E Greene not part of your list in 5…is Georgia presumed now?

Is aggy no longer a factor in this recruitment?  Thanks for all the updates.

Difficult to believe any Tom Herman hire would be viewed as immature.

Whaaaat

Context is that he was subtweeting Bryce Anderson after he committed to A&M. Harris's twitter fits in perfectly with other Texas fan accounts in that it's obnoxious

Kinda random but does anyone know what’s going on with David Abiara? The 6’4 athletic edge we signed last year? Totally forgot about him

Don't know, but this was high on the first page of my Google search:

Yeah I was wondering how we were so bad at edge last year and realized that we had guys like him, Jordan Thomas, Dorbah, and Sorrell who couldn’t get on the field. Hopefully those guys can take step this offseason and with the incoming guys we will never be that bad on the edge again. One transfer at that position would be huge

Christian Jones will be a tough loss but lets wish him well.

If we get Abor, Campbell, LTG, and Mathews, the roster would be a WR, TE, and LB from the portal away from being totally fucking stacked.

In theory, but keep in mind due to the windfall of guys that we got or are getting late, we will have a very very young team next year at key position groups and not as many portal guys that are day 1 starters. We aren't going to fix all of our shit in one offseason and will likely need another class that rivals this one in terms of high end guys that we land out of HS to really start moving the needle for the long term.

Look..  I fully agree about Ho Li Fuk but put some respect on Sum Ting Wong's name. Sick and tired of the ongoing slander of his coaching abilities just because he isn't a great people person. His knowledge of X's and O's is elite, especially on offense, and I think he would have done very well at LSU. Kelly wishes he were Sum Ting Wong.

Thomas had family issues and wasn't with the team for basically the entire season. Dorbah just doesn't care about football.

I don't believe this.  you need to add a few "sources tell me", "we are hearing", "word on the street" and a "50/50", "60/40" to get your 9.95.
