LOL that's why I said 'two evils', and that we've seen this shit before. These contract negotiations are nothing new. Content owners trying to get to a point where we have to go directly to them and they hold all the cards is a bit of a twist. And that's all fine, I guess, but when they wanna raise the price to a stupid level, then I'm out. I don't see YTTV doing anything else the cable/streaming aggregators haven't been doing for as long as they've existed. Disney isn't trying to do all of this to make less money, so I assume if they get their way, ESPN is gonna cost me a lot more than it costs for me to get it through YTTV.

I guess I just disagree either is the "lesser of".  Disney/ESPN is almost certainly the most valuable 'bundled' property on the YTTV platform considering other streamers (NFLX, Max, etc.) now completely dominate TV and movies.  I would say over 80% of our family usage of YTTV is live sports or ABC (which we watch for local news, etc.).   My kids watch almost all their shows on other services.  My wife watches a handful of Bravo.  We might watch cable news a handful of times per year if a big event.  That's really it.  Google offering a $20 credit for Disney IMO flat out proves it was previously significantly mispriced.  It wouldn't surprise me if Disney is taking the position that YTTV should be paying Disney a premium over what their direct subscription would cost as a way to get others to pay for all the other shit on YTTV that nobody watches and they are probably correct.

This was after Mike Greenberg told posted this:

image.png.677b4ac2a97787b8fb695508607f4155.png

McAfee's response...

“We’re all done with it. And also, if you’re on TV, stop telling people to go to a website to save a multi-billion-dollar deal. Nobody cares what you have to say. There will be nothing that we have to say or any website that will be visited. There are, I don’t want to say the exact names, but these people (hands up high), let’s put our swords down. Let’s put our swords down for the good of sports."

He added:

“We need each other. A lot of people saying ‘greedy corporations,’ it’s like, yeah. We need each other, especially with where sports are right now. And we’re in the middle of it, so let’s get it done. And stop asking me to go to a website. I don’t want to do that, so stop... all you’re doing is pissing everybody off even more. So it’s like, let’s just not do that.”

This is where I am but I have yet to buy an antenna.

Looking at some and I am in Georgetown.

The cheapest one says the range is thirty miles or so and the step up says the range is fifty miles which I will purchase before this weekend if needed. Many good games on ABC this Saturday too.

Also will try either Sling or FUBO by Saturday if needed.

Suggestions ?

As far as antennas, I've had good luck with the ones imbedded in a rectangular plastic sheet, with their own power plug.  They are 30 bucks.  The plug and antenna coax go into a little pre-amplifier that then goes to the TV coax.  One of those should get KVUE and other Austin stations from there with no problem.  Put the plastic sheet as high as possible and try different orientations.

To be fair, 2 out of 3 of those are playing into Disney's hands

3 out of 3. All are either owned by Disney, or caved and paid Disney's new asking price.

I get that rooting for either company is like having to choose between cancer vs AIDS, but at this particular moment in time, I'm Team YouTube.

All parties suck but the main culprit though is Disney/ESPN.  They are the ones who want you to switch.

Let us remember that this fiasco is contributed to, in part, by those nice contracts the SEC gets so we get paid.

It was mentioned earlier, but Sling only offers ABC in certain areas. I'm in DC and it's not offered here.

Even though they dont offer abc in that area, the abc games are aired on espn3 thru Sling. Maybe someone with Sling can verify?

Thanks, much appreciated:

Yes, most significant sports games (especially college football and select NFL games) that air on ABC are also simulcast on ESPN3, which is included with a Sling Orange subscription in the Washington DC area and everywhere else.
While Sling TV does not typically offer a local ABC channel feed in the Washington DC area (though it does offer local FOX and NBC in that market with the Blue plan), the specific games you are asking about are available through the national ESPN3 feed on Sling TV.
Here is how you can watch:
  • Sling Orange Plan: This package includes ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN3. This is the primary way to access the ABC games through the ESPN3 simulcast.

They're ransoming something we already paid for.

These jerkoffs are actually making me miss the Time Warner model of "just raise prices and hope everybody on autopay doesn't notice."

i paid the sling day pass charge last night to watch the duke game, and now i'm getting pissed off. not sure what we are going to do but YTTV is about to lose us. I'll probably pay for the day pass this saturday and next but after that they if YTTV hasn't figured it out, i'll quit them. maybe even nov 15 if sling day pass doesn't give me ABC access for the UGA game

For the first time in weeks, FOX won a head to head battle in one of the time slots. Ohio State had almost twice as many viewers as Texas-Vandy.

Hopefully another week like that will cause ESPN to get pressure from ad execs.

Yeah. Between Fox, CBS, and NFL Sunday Ticket, I'm getting to watch PLENTY of football.

As for Texas, I've got the TV tuner if it's on ABC, and my pirate ship when it ain't.

I don't care to watch any other SEC game.

Not in North Texas either.  Fubo is looking like an option however.  And whoever mentioned appologroup.tv, that looks interesting but also shady as hell going through all of their channels for such a low price.

https://apollogrouptv.co/channels/

that's not the right site. it's something that ends in .tv.  Apollogroup.tv? Something like that.

Maybe they have a few domains?  If you google "apollo group channels" that is what popped up.

However, after googling reviews, I think it is a no-go.  Looks like they once were good but tons of buffering, and I can imagine it will only get worse with the YTTV issues.

So you're saying the billion dollar brands legally extorting you mid season for the only product you care about, all while asking you to "vote" or "click" or whatever the fuck is frustrating.

This is a mafiaoso member telling you to lodge a complaint with the cop who protects him from legal trouble after making you aware your payments will double after you reopen your bar they've shut down.

YTTV isnt the bad guy here. It's ESPN who is trying to monopolize this thing and it will lead to extortion long term.

Noticed that as well.   This week ABC has BYU/Tech which, even though Big 12 has rated poorly all year, considering their best game of the season, it 'should' win against PSU/Indiana.  Will be an interesting.

They’re still doing it as Spectrum but only my with my Internet prices, and since Spectrum doesn’t give a fuck or throttle me even though I use multiple IPTV streams I use to get all the channels I want, we can both look the other way.

Don’t disagree but I can’t go somewhere else for espn except espn and its distributees. I’ve already boycotted frozen and Pinocchio because reasons but the mouse has my football.

I just took my life in my hands by climbing up on my pitched roof in the near dark to straighten out the antenna that the roofers knocked off axis when they replaced our roof last year.  ABC is coming in clear again though, so there's that.

Suggesting Google isn’t the bad guy is naive. We don’t know. All I know is I can’t watch games on YTTV, and it’s far superior to streaming on ESPN. Yes, Greeny’s text and any suggestion they make to visit a web site is annoying as shit, but Disney has Google by the balls - not the other way around. I’ll cancel YTTV at the end of my billing cycle in a few weeks if this shit isn’t resolved. I’m not interested in ascribing blame. I’m interested in watching the Horns and other sports on ESPN. The why is irrelevant.

Switch to Fubo

I usually have Fubo during the baseball season so I can watch the Astros.  It sucks.  Far inferior to YouTube in quality.

Also, Disney/ESPN/ABC happen to own Fubo AND Hulu+Live, which might be instructive on why ESPN is trying to shake down YouTube.  Either they agree to higher rates and have to raise their prices, which will lead to subscriber loss (and resulting market gains for Disney’s services), or they don’t get ESPN, which will lead to subscriber loss (and resulting market gains for Disney’s services).

Fubos 4k feeds were fine but regular HD were nit as good as yttv.  Plus the interface is not as good.  I am having some separate issue in that yttv is lowering quality when the internet is fine.  Comparing WS game, fubo 4k was fantastic 100% of the time.  Yttv would degrade like 50% of the time.

Fubo trial is over.  Will probably try Sling this weekend.

Yea this. Google can spend their lunch money and buy Disney. They may have put their foot down on a too low of a subscriber number, or espn wants another 20%. Nobody knows this except for their BODs

Sling is the worst of all the services in my experience.   Cheaper price, cheaper service.

Looks like I’m going to have to go get some new lawn mowing headphones at lowes and listen to Craig Way on the am radio while I mow dead grass and leaves , or just buy a 12 pack  and drive around for 3 hrs and listen to the Am radio . Does my truck have am radio? It must right ? Fuck espn and fuck YouTube. I ditched att/direct and no longer get the Astros and the rockets , I’ll be fine I was already half way back to 1985 already anyway.  fucking media conglomerate assholes….

I'm seriously thinking of ditching YTTV.  All I need it for is sports, really.  Between Netflix and HBO Go or Max or whatever, I've got all the movies and standup I need.

So, if I have to go to Pluckers every Sat to watch football now, I can redirect my cable payment to chicken wings.  Fuck 'em.

I listened to Craig Way on Saturday. Wasn’t so bad. Plan on doing it this Saturday too.

Still haven’t seen any highlights from Vandy game. Can we bring back the Sunday night coaches show on channel 11 if this shit continues?

Decided to try the most lazy way to pirate games by just searching YouTube for UCF/Baylor on Saturday and it worked flawlessly. First stream lasted until right around half until it got shut down and the 2nd one completed the game. Of course, maybe since nobody cared about UCF/Baylor it stayed up longer than a different game, but thats just the bonus of being 5-4.

YT has typically a few good channels, The official ESPN channel on YT grabs all the big plays.

I've discovered that Fubo's app quality and features depends on the platform. For example, we can't do multi view on our smart tv but can on the Roku stick. Also, the Fox 4k feed breaks the Roku for some reason (as in we have to unplug it and plug it back in.) Works just fine on the smart TV app though.

So the moral is YMMV with Fubo depending on the platform you use.

FUBO is 70% owned by Disney is it not?

Yes that deal just closed. No conflict of interest there!

Anyway the bigger picture is that the cost for live sports rights keeps going up and providers like Disney, Paramount, and Universal are going to have to pass that on to the consumer somehow - commercial airtime can't cover the entire bill.
