I watched the entire thing, and what apparently set Trump off was when Z started saying things like "We must stop Putin". Trump didn't like that. "He's sitting here, being all negative towards Putin." Then they were off.

FIFM.

A lot transpired today while I was working, much to think about. But the roller coaster will still depart this fall and still magnificently plunge by November.

What we’re witnessing in America is what happens when disordered discourse captures a political party, then the state itself. The Republican Party was the first to fall - abandoning truth for conspiracy, ideology for grievance, and policy for performative outrage.

Now, with its grip on institutions, disordered discourse isn’t just shaping politics - it has overtaken those in power, who now govern as if manufactured narratives were reality, eroding the state and democracy itself from within.

Disordered discourse doesn’t just govern through those who believe its manufactured narratives - it forces even those who don’t to submit. To stay in power, they must either bend the knee to the lies or become the next target of the machine they helped create.

America is not unique. Any democracy can fall to state capture by disordered discourse if there’s no systematic response. This isn’t something we can fact-check our way out of - it’s deeper than misinformation. It’s about power, identity, and the narratives that shape reality itself.

We’re living through a fundamental shift in how discourse is created. Institutions once shaped a shared reality through discourse - imperfectly, but with structure. Now, that reality has splintered. In its place, engagement-driven ecosystems amplify whatever resonates, truth optional.

The result? A fragmented public consciousness where competing realities coexist, each self-reinforcing and resistant to correction. When truth is no longer a shared foundation, power shifts to those who control the most compelling narrative - no matter how detached from reality it is.

Democracies weren’t built around this. They depend on a shared reality, however contested, to function. When governance becomes a battle between competing fictions rather than policy and truth, institutions designed for debate and compromise become tools for enforcing narratives.

The end result is what we’re seeing in the U.S. - a democracy struggling to function because its institutions are trapped in disordered discourse. Governance isn’t about solving problems; it’s about demonstrating loyalty to manufactured narratives.

If you think this can’t happen outside the U.S., consider that we’re all subject to the same forces - social media-driven discourse, collapsing institutional trust, and the rise of narratives untethered from reality. It’s a systemic vulnerability in every democracy.

We need to consider what this means for our democracies at the most fundamental level. If governance is shaped by engagement-driven narratives over reality, how do institutions survive? If truth is irrelevant to power, what stops disordered discourse from capturing the state everywhere?

Disordered discourse thrives on systemic drivers: engagement-driven algorithms, collapsing trust in institutions, news influencers shaping reality through identity, and the erosion of shared discourse. These forces don’t just distort politics - they reshape democracy itself.

That was no more than Mediumcat.  Just sayin'.

I am white, male, and straight and I've pretty much known since childhood that this country will go out of its way to cater to me. It's glaringly obvious that being a white man in America is like winning the lottery.

This isn't really helpful.  If you are white male and middle class/lower class, cops still shit on you, threaten you, and harass you.  If you are not educated or lack access to money, you can still get fucked over by lawyers and insurance companies simply because you cannot afford a lawsuit or the value isn't there.  You can get shitty medical care.   Having everyone tell you how great you have it, because you get shit on less in some capacity.  Not everyone is born with a credit card, trust fund, or high credit rating, because they tick the 'majority' boxes (straight, white, male).

Being white, didn't stop the cops from beating Kelly Thomas to death.

I didn't really see this as badly as some of you are reacting. There is also a bit of an obvious language barrier from casual and metaphorical language and literal interpretation.

The playing cards thing wasn't a zinger Trump is just too stupid to say it the right way for Zelensky to understand what he meant in a high pressure fast talking situation like that. Its why he said its not a game of cards and then got cut off etc.

Its incredible to watch how actually stupid these people are.

Exactly. That’s why they call it the myth of white supremacy. Everyone who makes it in this country works hard. Unless you are born two or more of really good looking, rich, smart or well connected hard work alone doesn’t get you much. And you need to be lucky also. I guess white boys  have it slightly better at a traffic stop. That’s about it. And right about the time MLK started to point that shit out is when they shot him.

Anyway that’s why “white trash” is such a potent insult. One time in middle school my  friend’s mom called me and my family white trash to my face.  Let me tell you- when a grown woman from HP tells a kid from East Dallas that he and his family are “white trash”, it’s a formative moment.

We have become the baddies. Living in the most insane story arc ever.

Entire childhood full of anti russia movies. Adult: russia is our friend! Oh ignore the invasion, raping, murdering of civilians and dumping in mass graves! War crimes? Nahhhh The democracy minding their own business that we talked out of nukes and have done nothing to provoke invasion are the enemy!

This is a hill that has caused my wife and I to basically burn our family relationships to the ground. Her parents are excommunicado and my brother is dead to me. It was easy because they are all annoying as hell. So tired of people that have nothing in their life but bitching about boogeymen or asking for money. Go figure it out losers. Hope medicare/SS saves your ass. Or maybe daddy trump. Good luck.

Except…it’s not.

You know how we should combat white privilege? Let’s hire people based on their darker skin color instead of their qualifications. As long as said person isn’t white, this couldn’t possibly be considered racist. We all know that Kamala lost because she was a minority woman and not an undeserving shitty candidate. We’re going to call it “DEI” instead of actual systematic racism in the laws. And if you don’t agree, it’s because you’re a white dude that didn’t have to work to earn your spoils. Plus, you’re a bigot and misogynist obviously.

Racism solved. There is no possible way this policy could further divide racial tensions because some people actually get to benefit from their skin color in corporate America.

Solid plan!

https://www.npr.org/2025/02/28/nx-s1-5305281/trump-police-misconduct-database-background-checks

A federal system for doing background checks on law enforcement officers has gone offline — thanks to an executive order signed by President Trump when he returned to the White House on Jan. 20.

The National Law Enforcement Accountability Database (NLEAD) was launched in 2023 as a central repository of the professional records of federal law enforcement officers. The main purpose was to allow prospective employers — other federal agencies or local police — to check their backgrounds for misconduct. The system is now offline.

Why did President Trump decommission the database?

It appears to be a casualty of Trump's flurry of first-day executive actions, which included the revocation of a long list of President Biden's executive orders. One of those Biden orders was a package of police reforms signed on May 25, 2022, the second anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. The database was just one item among many in Biden's order, and the Trump administration has not criticized it specifically, though in the preface to the revocation it criticized the Biden policies in general over what it called "unlawful and radical DEI ideology."

So next steps now, there is no way Zelenskyy stays in office, right?  His relationship with Trump and necessity of U.S. support for Ukraine precludes it.  Playing out the chess game, Ukraine's moves are:

  1. He stays as President and capitulates to Trump's demand for subjugation and sells out mineral rights and accepts whatever shit deal Trump cuts with the Russians.  Or,
  2. He stays as President and remains steadfast in a "fair" deal for Ukraine, and sees Trump sell him out vs. Russia and withdraw all U.S. support going forward.  His only play here would be to backstop U.S. support with EU support, I don't think there is enough to go around to make up the gap.  Or,
  3. He resigns under pressure from the Ukranian parliment.  Either through appointment or election he is replaced by a new personality, probably more malleable to Trump and more friendly.  Takes whatever deal he can get, or as Lindsay Graham says "He knows his place."

4. the europeans cut a deal with china who funds the european arms industry in exchange for rare earths

I'm all for it; I just doubt Europe's resolve once the U.S. drops out.  Easier to just let Russia take Ukraine, Moldova, etc.  They'll grasp their pearls but other than Poland I'd be surprised if they put troops down there to act as peacekeepers. They've already donated their spare gear and are just now spinning up their military industrial base.

I’ve had a cop buy me a candy bar after he stopped me for speeding on a friday night when I was in college. I got off with a warning and a free candy bar.

Spoiler: I’m a white guy.

There is absolutely white privilege.

I've told this story before but will repeat

I am a Mexican but look like a honky. Years ago. I was with some friends sitting in a park after dark when cops approached us and one cop pointed a gun at the back of my brown friends head and said he would pop him. My friend didn't do anything than other than be tan.

Another time, I am with my roommate driving back from my family's property in Bandera. DPS pulls us over and we had modified MAK-90s (AK-47), modified SKS and pistols along with a a case of beer and a bottle of Jack Daniels in the truck bed. One of the DPS troopers finds that one of our MAK-90s was still loaded and we had opened cans of beer in the truck. we were both 19 years old at the time.

DPS let us go with a verbal warning, don't keep drinking that beer and unload that rifle.

This has always been the law.

timely reminder: the frogs and brits both have boats with warheads

french: 290

uk: 225

vlad has 1700 on land and 192 in boats plus 4000+ stockpiled for "operational forces"

but 500 euto warheads still wipes out all of vlad
