Pretty sure everyone knows about the Orwellian order for the Smithsonian to remove their "inappropriate ideology" already, but it also sounds like they're ready to start putting Confederate traitor statues back up.

It also requires the interior secretary to reinstate monuments, memorials, statues and similar properties that have been removed or changed since Jan. 1, 2020, to “perpetuate a false reconstruction of American history, inappropriately minimize the value of certain historical events or figures, or include any other improper partisan ideology.”

Goddamn traitors. Fucking fascists. Have they floated the idea of revoking the 13th Amendment yet?

Looking at the docket, the case was originally randomly assigned to Beryl Howell, notable enemy of the Trump administration.  She apparently punted to avoid the bullshit recusal sideshow that's sure to accompany that.  That's what judicial integrity looks like.

A prominent litigator who has spent his career fighting for conservative issues is now taking on the Trump administration over its attacks on law firms.

Paul Clement on Friday filed a lawsuit against Trump, challenging the president’s executive order against WilmerHale. The firm is among five that Trump has targeted over the last month for their ties to his perceived opponents and pro bono work he says undermines US interests.

“This lawsuit is absolutely critical to vindicating the First Amendment, our adversarial system of justice, and the rule of law,” Clement said in a statement.

The former Solicitor General, who was on Trump’s list of potential picks for Supreme Court seats during the president’s first term, has argued more than 100 cases before the country’s highest court. He convinced the court last year to roll back federal agencies’ rulemaking power and in 2022 to strike down strict gun restrictions in New York. Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows brought in Clement in 2024 in his fight against charges related to the 2020 election in Georgia.

“Paul is the perfect fit for this case,” said Deepak Gupta, an appellate lawyer and the founding partner of Gupta Wessler. “He’s not only a card-carrying conservative and a phenomenally skilled advocate; he’s also shown throughout his career that he has a steadfast commitment to lawyers’ obligation to zealously represent unpopular clients.”

WilmerHale turned to Clement as other firms are looking to strike a deal with the White House instead of fighting in court. Wall Street’s Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom pledged to provide $100 million in pro bono work for Trump administration priorities, the president said Friday. Paul Weiss, another leading New York firm, agreed earlier this month to provide $40 million in pro bono legal services and conduct and independent review of its DEI policies in exchange for Trump withdrawing an order against the firm.

Jenner & Block also filed a lawsuit on Friday against the Trump administration over a similar order against the firm, tapping Cooley for its representation in the case.

Clement previously left partner roles at two major firms over disagreements about conservative legal causes. He departed King & Spalding after the firm withdrew as counsel for the US House of Representatives, which had argued to preserve a federal law that allowed states to refuse same-sex marriage. He exited Kirkland & Ellis after the firm said it would not longer take gun rights cases.

“In the past, when people have tried to pressure Paul to abandon a commitment to a client, he’s shown that he’s willing to stand up for his principles,” Gupta said. “That’s what the American legal profession needs to do at this dangerous moment—we need to unite to defend the rule of law—not capitulate or compromise our principles for short-term convenience.”

Awesome and all but this is one lawyer and Big Law has completely capitalized.  They're bending over and taking the mushroom

Well, ackshually, they haven't.  Unless you want to  contend that Perkins Coie, Jenner Block, and Wilmer Hale aren't big law.

No one is crossing the border illegally at big bend np.  there are handful of Mexican citizens who put some handmade souvenirs on the American side asking tourists to buy them for a few bucks. It’s completely on an honor system. They live on the Mexico side.

It’s all performative bullshit.

Maybe they’ll wind up shooting another Mexican goat herder and call it a victory.

Absolutely, it's performative. My biggest practical concern about their deployment to Big Bend is the potential damage those Strykers might do to the desert floor if they start going off-road. That might sound trivial but desert ecosystems can be really fragile to that sort of thing.

So what’s the angle on Carlos Watson commutation? Of course just flooding the zone in general but is there some maga tie or is mainly an eye poke on the New York federal courts?

View it in connection with his other commutations/pardons for people convicted of fraud, securities fraud, etc….along with him gutting the SEC and turning the FBI and DOJ away from performing any law enforcement function other than pursuing enemies of the regime. This is about making fraud and grift not just legal, but making them the prime mover of our economy. Fraud and grift are legal now, in all respects.

Kinda have to think Liz Holmes is on deck.  I dunno, though, chick.

Watson has the additional benefit of being black, because once in a while, Trump throws a small DEI bone.

To be fair. it does not appear that Whiskey Pete directly ordered the removal of specific books.

Possibly worse, though, is the whole chilling effect of this type of order.

One thing I find particularly galling is that integration of the military has been a leading force in integration of society and the willingness of abused minorities to serve the country that has abused them is a marvel of the best of America.

Edit to add:  Article also says USNA had eliminated affirmative action in admissions, which I initially thought was a blinding glimpse of the obvious in view of the fact that it is a federal institution.  However, I believe that the state of the law is that the courts defer to military judgments of the necessity of affirmative action and similar things, so the academies were free to continue affirmative action before this order.

A close friend of mine is what is called a "Blue & Gold Officer" for the USNA.  Basically, it's a volunteer position where they cover a region and help recruit potential appointees.  They are either USNA grads or parents of USNA students (in his case his son is a grad).  I'm going to reach out and see if he can provide a little more flavor on this bullshit.

Hey, if we can save a few pennies by destroying America from the inside, we'd be crazy not to do that.

Fuck it all

I'll continue my tiresome jihad against the news outlets.

The news reports Trump's absurd lies without getting the least bit of substantiation. The quote is what they're after. It's taught in journalism schools. It's the template: we always quote presidents. We don't dare report that the president had no credible answer for why he pardoned a big contributor to his campaign.

image.png.27cc0dabf9dde2da15d93ac23c7900c3.png

Again, the NYT won't call what is demonstrably true a fact. I'll assume the video mentioned below exists:

image.png.1e43cd6aef7ec7e967b5ba96df0c7ed8.png

The chickenshit editorial policies of major outlets disarm themselves if they won't report facts. On those facts, they could build investigative stories rather than merely being a quote service. They promote both sides in the same way the cable news panel shows do.

Maybe this guy did some fraud, at least that's what I heard from this other guy. I saw the tape, but I can't be sure it exists. The lawyer for the alleged fraud said the video was made by socialist Dems trying to destroy our country.

Lastly:

image.png.e6bb1af8e1f48fe813200c4268da3e7f.png

This is in the muddle down at paragraph 3. IMHO,here's the lede

Trump pardons large donor who now will not have to face prison sentencing nor pay back tens of millions of dollars to stockholders he allegedly defrauded. Milton, head of Nikola, was convicted of said fraud.

I give them a break on the use of allegedly even though you don't have to use that after the allegations are confirmed at trial.

I think we have the replacement for E Pluribus Unum or In God We Trust on the money.

I feel confirmed in upgrading Trump's GOP from death cult to murder cult.

My wife has been railing about how troops have seemingly occupied Marfa, according to reports she is hearing from the arts community there.
