There.  Just wrote the first paragraph of my novel.

Looks like a good one. Let me know when it comes out on Kindle!

Any general who puts his promotion and career ahead of his/her oath to the Constitution in these days is a traitor. The Trump interviews with top staff promotion candidates form a line in the sand. You can't pledge fealty and remain true to your oath.

The traitor above lays out the terms. Even praise from a Democratic president is cause for suspicion.

This is a very bad dream.

I still have my avalanche.  It’s fully restored for my son to drive. (did you fix the paint on the hood?)  I’m also teaching him to drive standard in my 911. (cool humblebrag) I don’t know why my cars are relevant.  Neither are my finances or my age, or my race. (your material wealth is ironically funny.  you support people who will take everything you have.  not sure why)

I thought that yacht   had a beautiful interior design that would be a nice style for the White House.  Nice use of gold tones and great lines.  (when it comes to things like this, maybe leave it to people who have training in such matters.  Same with doctors and women and researchers and airplane pilots.  they don't need your opinion).

I think it’s funny that people rail on interior design and somehow make that a political issue.  (take an architectural history course some time if you want to be astounded by how closely politics and architecture are intertwined)

Reminds me of the last time I staggered into a West Texas confessional.   Stupid me thought the priest was on the other side grunting and groaning, until I knocked on the wall and heard “no use knocking, ain’t no toilet paper on this side neither!  “

Engineering and business majors? I generally agree.

Although I could never set up a little political science shop on the corner and make a living, the older I get the more I value the traditional liberal arts education I received at UF.    Being required to take sociology and history and psychology and humanities credits with my poli-sci courses - I feel that gave me a better chance to learn critical thinking and to more easily understand when you are being bullshitted in a political situation. Granted, job opportunities were more law school or rental car counter or barista due to that.

I remember talking to an engineer neighbor a long time ago about some Charlie Daniels political screed that the neighbor loved.   I laughed and asked him if he knew anything about rhetoric or if he knew anything about logical fallacies.

I told him he should study rhetoric so he could instantly recognize things in the Charlie Daniels manifesto (that contained several “no true Scotsman”statements, and referenced “wine drinking liberals”, etc.)

I told him once you recognize how rhetoric and fallacies were put out there to deceive and manipulate you, you will instantly have a better idea who to trust and what information to discard or what to pursue in a validity search.

To be clear, I’m not saying that is the only way to be a critical thinker, or that only people with a liberal arts education are critical thinkers.    But it has been my experience that having the skill to solve engineering problems with physics and mathematics (courses I could never pass in 1000 years) does not translate as well to understand when you are being manipulated and grifted by people like Trump.

Through no fault of their own - or their education - they are more susceptible to being victims of the type of rhetoric they often fall for.  Because they are simply unaware that rhetoric is a system and a skill employed to convince and manipulate people - using specific techniques that have been identified for thousands of years and are still very effective.

Even at the high school level there should be mandatory courses on rhetoric to hopefully reduce the number of gullible people falling for what is obvious bullshit - at least obvious bullshit that is readily apparent to a lot of other people.

Who would have ever thought that critical thinking might come in handy when navigating a social order designed by a state dominated by the forces of capital.

A neg on this or any board is high on the list of things I don't give a fuck about.

I get negged daily on TigerDroppings when telling them how shitty their politics are.

My son is getting married in the church in a couple of months (we’re Catholic) and fortunately it will not be a full Mass.

Just curious, but if your belief in it is so minuscule that you celebrate not having to sit through a mass...

Why bother with any of it at all?

Is it just habit combined with confirmation bias at this point?

How does somebody who litters this site with pictures of his naked wife give a shit about negs?

When you post shit like that you’re either the most confident MF ever or the polar opposite.  There’s really no in between.

I turned off all notifications about rep because who fucking cares. What a stupid, insecure thing to worry about. But as we've seen the self-identifying "alphas" on this site really get pissy when they get negative feedback which usually leads to whining on multiple boards and demonstrating the beta tendencies they constantly prescribe to libs. Or they have amusing meltdowns complete with taking their toys and going home. That's specific to a certain Highland Park douchebag who Penelope seems to make act like a massive toddler.

Thread's already derailed, so what the fuck...

Guy I've recently become quite friendly with has lots of dough.  He lives in FL.  His daughter lives in the Bay area.  She got married last year.  He wrote a check for 250,000 for the wedding.  Last year.   A couple of months ago, she comes home early, and "husband" is balls-deep in a woman 15 years his senior...that he's been fucking for 9 years.

Daughter loses her shit,  of course.  Daughter and Son in law were supposed to join by buddy and his wife on their European vacation, two weeks after she caught him.  The wife comes alone and cries the entire time and ruins their vacation.  To put the icing on the cake, buddy tells the daughter that when the vacation is over, he needs a week to catch up with work, then he'll fly out to SFO and go with her to meet with divorce lawyers.   She sheepishly tells  him that a lawyer won't be needed, as the wedding was just a ceremony/charade, and they didn't even have a marriage license.

So my buddy pissed away a quarter million so his daughter could cosplay as a bride.  He's livid.

Do all of the career FBI officials being fired for no good reason have legal grounds to sue?

They almost certainly do have grounds but there are two issues at play:

1. Trump has hobbled the Merit Systems Protection Board and stacked it with his people.

2. The DC appeals court is extremely Trump friendly and is all-in on the “unitary executive” theory, which basically holds that Trump can do whatever he wants with the executive branch and any law that places limits on him in that sphere is unconstitutional.

I think not just FBI but a lot of fired employees will eventually get some sort of settlement and maybe back wages but it’s going to have to be under a different admin.

So we are going to war with Mexico now?

“The United States is not going to come to Mexico with the military. We cooperate, we collaborate, but there is not going to be an invasion. That is ruled out, absolutely ruled out,” she said, adding that she would read the order. “It is not part of any agreement, far from it. When it has been brought up, we have always said no.”

This is almost completely inaccurate.  It is probably the most liberal and least Trump-friendly Court of Appeals in the nation and also the most politically and constitutionally sophisticated.  Four Obama appointees, three Biden, three Trump, one GHWB, among the non-senior.

It is true, however, that absent clear congressional limits on presidential power to remove executive officers, the DC Circuit has refused to place limitations on that power.  Which is probably actually the correct answer, but a lot of people like to call that unitary executive/unlimited presidential power.

But, that's irrelevant, because the Federal Circuit hears appeals from the MSPB.

I mean it takes less than a second and really pisses off bigots and peddlers of bad faith.

I'm still miffed at how big of a differential there was between @PenelopeWitherspoon and myself in number of negs given overall. Gotta step my game up
