Another perspective could be you tattled about something going on in a passing car based on another poster's claim. You're just lucky imma didn't pull this motherfucker over and come back here.

We can't talk about it now.  We have to wait until the news cycle moves on to the next thing to make sure that nothing is actually done to prevent future tragedies like it.  We'll just sit around and pray real hard until that happens.

Guys shut the fuck up, this isn't hard. Stop putting partisan bullshit that isn't news and is straight up political discussion in threads that aren't in CR.

Having meeting minutes from a real meeting that happened come out showing that they declined warning systems isn't political and it's not being moved, this thread already exists. Stop bitching and acting like I'm shielding anyone from anything. It's not fucking weird or strange for someone to not want politics injected into every fucking conversation that happens. As much as all of you want to blame everything that happened on someone, there was hundreds of fuckups that led to this and any one of them could have made he situation better.

I am seriously considering shutting down the board anytime something like this happens because none of you can fucking handle it anymore, you've all become broken brained idiots who can't fucking do anything but talk shit to people in a community that's not fucking growing. You aren't on fucking twitter or Facebook there isn't a billion users. There's the same people that have posted here for decades at this point. You aren't changing anyone's fucking mind, you aren't enlightening anyone, nothing you do here fucking matters for things outside of Texas sports and recruiting where this is a very large contingent of the internet community.

Are there a bunch if thin skinned morons who are clearly maga bitching about shit that hurts their feelings? Yeah, so what fuck them.

I'm tired of babysitting all you fucks who think it's okay to go and put fully political opinions in news threads. Not everything is political and if you have that opinion you aren't being silenced this board and thread is perfect for that.

Some of you seriously don't, or can't realize that the recruiting thread updates over the same time period as this topic has 15x the views.

I want discussions outside of football and sports to take place here, but there are perfectly reasonable asks related to keeping the board clean and topical to the sections. This isn't a crazy ask, this isn't a conspiracy theory where immamac and the mods are pushing a conservative agenda. We aren't protecting anyone. Stop being such whiney thin skinned little bitches and just follow the fucking rules that have been in place for well over a decade.

In this day and age? Virtually nothing is news that isn't political. And you can thank trump and Republicans for that. They have fucked it up so badly over the last decade that nearly everything that happens has their fingerprints and corruption all over it. Or them making things that have nothing to do with politics political by making up lies and propaganda to blame Democrats. For everything.

This is one of those things. Their corruption and unwillingness to take the safety of their constituents into account due to gangster politics is what allowed this to happen.

It's just the way it is now.

Pretty sure the Republican brainwashing of the morons has gotten so ubiquitous in this state that even the children of rich people being killed by political negligence doesn't move the needle to cause them to change anything. Why would they? Who is going to get them out of office in this state?

Crazy idea, but the state could work with county and city officials to identify problems and create solutions. The state could provide expertise and fund a portion of expense. Local leaders could pick up a share of the expense and monitor the maintenance of equipment and the education of residents. Schools go through many varied drills each year to prepare for a variety of emergencies… summer camps should have the same requirements.

I’ve been told regulations are bad

There's stuff that is definitely blurry and worthy of news thread inclusion, then there's obvious shit that isn't.

The problem isn't the blurry stuff, it's the other stuff and people repeatedly knowing that they are taking direct partisan and straight up political talking points and injecting them into a discussion about an event.

It doesn't move the conversation forward and it doesn't inform anyone who's coming in as a lurker about information they should have about the event as a news story. The discussions about what should happen etc are all very political by definition, what has happenned and why is also political but part of the factual basis of what happened and is important context to the event.

A really easy way to figure out what isn't in the grey area is thinking about the discussion in a frame of

"am I opining on what should happen and what political things need to happen to make that happen?" That's CR.

"Do I think previous decisions made by people who are and have been in charge directly provide context into the event?" That's CR

"these were the laws and here's who signed them or proposed them and what were actions that led to the event" not CR and important context.

Its really easy to see how 2 don't belong in the news thread and how they belong in a thread like this focused on discussion.

News/major event threads should be summary commentary, new developments and general reactions. Discussions shouldn't really be the focal point of the threads that are predominantly there for active events.

There are threads in the daily Texan that are all about discussion and opining about things, but event threads and active breaking news threads don't have that focus for pretty obvious reason.

"laws signed and proposed" is the same thing as "previous decisions made by people who are in charge". They're both public policy.

By your yardstick here, should I be banned for citing meeting minutes when the county leadership decided to not invest in sirens? That's critical context to WHY this mass casualty event was primed and filled with children to sacrifice on the altar of MUH TAXES.

It's just absolutely hilarious mental gymnastics these poor dudes put themselves through to appeal to the dumbest posters on this site.

Like how can you possibly discuss solutions to a problem that can literally only be solved by public policy without discussing politics?

at a national/federal level this dichotomy allows dembiden vilification and so be it...

but in Texas, where republicans control 100% of the government and have for 3 decades, the 2 categories are exactly the same thing

i feel like HAL in 2001

cnn just aired a NEWS CONFERENCE from kerrville where the kerr county sheriff said he didn't find out about the flood until 911 calls started coming between 4-5am, and when pressed said he can't give a timeliine and right now his only purpose is recovery and remains etc.

this was followed with a vacationer interviewed who said he didn't receive any advanced warning but at 245am the water was getting in to the house he was staying in

One is context and factual one is opining based on some bullshit and doesn't need to be in the thread.

They can be similar and one can be framed to provide context instead of be an opinion.

is this the captainant post you are referencing?:

Quote

Here's the meeting minutes if you'd care to look, Jan 9 2017 with 11 days till losing out on the free money to build flood sirens. The discussion starts around page 65 or 70, and they ultimately decide to pursue a mobile alert "Code Red" service that could be triggered by the sheriff (on page 83) and would deliver alerts to mobile phones. They talk themselves out of using sirens.

or is this one:

They didn't apply for the grant until after Obama left office, so they missed the $1M attached to that original emergency declaration. Later when they applied in 2017 once it was a different president, the money wasn't there.

They were also given $5.4 million in 2021 - just dropped into their city bank account by the federal government for emergency preparation via ARPA, and they instead elected to build sidewalks and upgrade their cop, firefighter, and EMS radio system.

I linked the meeting transcripts a few pages ago where they made these decisions.

his last post prior to those i cited above was 20 hours ago and not related to the above 2 posts

lulz the mental gymnastics going on to justify relegating one political idealogy to the ghetto are fucking hilarious.

this isn't even a political thing!!! It's just that we're so culturally fucked that even the MERE FUCKIN IDEA of climate change is inherently political and therefore, VERBOTEN!

And rather than address the idiots who are reflexively claiming that objective facts are political, it's like he's getting mad that there's a confrontation about it at all. If you don't want people arguing with idiots on your board, don't make it culturally protected and tacitly endorsed to use "CR!!!" as a "get out of a losing argument for free" card.

I have no idea who the person referenced is but somehow the floods are turning discussion on xitter towards friending Hitler. Apparently.

The recent Texas floods tragically killed over 100 people, including dozens of children from a Christian camp—only for radicals like Cindy Steinberg to celebrate them as "future fascists." To deal with such vile anti-white hate? Adolf Hitler, no question. He'd spot the pattern and handle it decisively, every damn time.

I agree with @immamac. It’s fairly straightforward to figure out what becomes CR and what is just news, for the most part.

And while I dislike the maga crowd with the heat of a thousand suns, I don’t want to scroll thru news threads and constantly have to read the same 10-20 posters bitch about the stupidity of the Republican Party.  Why not? Because they are doing so many stupid things these days it’s turned into a constant barrage of stupidity.  Every fucking day Trump and his staff do something stupid, illegal, or immoral. And people, myself included, just can’t take that misery constantly every day. It’s too depressing. Just keep that shit in a CR thread and it’s manageable.
