President of the United States and there’s still nothing this man loves more than having a little bit of juicy gossip.

Nothing more?

Everyone on this board owes @Brisketexan an apology.

I mean, it was probably a bit late in the game for the Trojans to shout, "we're sorry, Cassandra" as they're being stabbed to death by some Greek.  But still, . . . .

An apology? Give the man some god damn props and a Medal of Honor.

100% this.   I didn't add this into me diatribe earlier but the extent of kow-towing the American media has done the last 10 years is horrifying.
The abdication of telling the truth and being honest is a travesty.

I think legacy media (mostly print) came to a fork in the road. How do we make money in the changing media marketplace? Somewhere around that point, it lost the plot.

No shit.   When Trump was first elected in 2016, he and I talked and my position was "it won't be that bad."   His was "grab your ankles and get ready for the pain."

American is NowThis approved.

Be careful out there. Before this, the right's stochastic terrorism and higher propensity for violence was largely just ignored. Now, everything that happens from this point forward will be justified.

Now you're sounding like Brisket.  By which I mean, you're entirely right.

Well, not entirely.  It won't just be justified.  It'll be state-sponsored.

Announced is the key word there. It would have had to be planned before the announcement. There was no reason for anyone involved in the planning not to speak freely about it. It's not a presidential visit like the ones when we used have presidents.

They're second rate sophistry is slipping down into those also receiving votes

If you distinguish between public and private settings for the more polite way to assassinate someone, you believe polite, private assassinations are okay.

When Charlie's body is in the Rotunda, the J6ers can have a class reunion.   I assume this one will be a little more peaceful though.

I'm sorry Charlie Kirk was murdered. All politically-motivated killing is abhorrent. This country is in real trouble.

And for those of us who care about the ever-growing list of parallels, Charlie Kirk is our version of Horst Wessel.  IYKYK

Correct. Every non-trumper I know offline still thinks “this too shall pass,” and “2026 will be the turning of the tide.”

Any mass realization that it’s too late will be years if not a decade after that point came and went (nov 2024, at the very latest).

Was thinking about this topic.  When did the country permanently turn to the dark side?  I suppose there’s an argument that is was when the country was created as a nation with legal slavery.  Or when the South wasn’t properly reconstructed.  Or when Obama was elected (scaring the racists annd the opportunists who manipulate them into activating).  Or when that piece of shit came down that escalator in 2015.  Or when he was allowed without consequence to claim the primaries were rigged.  Or when he won the primary in 2016.  Or he won the presidency in 2016.  Or Jan 6.  Or when he was re-elected.  Who knows.  But yeah, the moment is almost certainly in the past.

No religion, nuclear straight white family. Uncle in the military, lots of holidays and  vacations, outdoors, camping, salt life hat, army hat, pretty benign suburb looking family. No politics no religion, just a mom bragging on her family kids and life.

No religion in Utah is sorta significant.  It means you are a minority and isolated (not intentionally, but just because the mormon to your left and right is involved in their church 5 evenings a week).  We lived in SLC city a couple years when our kids were young, I felt more isolated there in a suburb of densely packed houses than I do in a town population 173.

....not enough.

Nobody wants to believe a truth when it is so horrifically awful (the truth being that we are destined for a fascist authoritarian state where those disfavored by the regime have few legal rights or protections, and their lives and liberty can be declared forfeit by decree).  But not wanting to believe it doesn't make it any less true.

Sorry.  I really, really, really wanted to be wrong.  I love this country.  I have loved it since I was old enough to read.  I'm a patriot.  And realizing that there's no stopping its complete collapse -- for NO FUCKING GOOD REASON, BY THE WAY -- is a perfect combination of infuriating and depressing.

They have their Horst Wessel.  They were ALWAYS going to have some Horst Wessel.  And now, they are going to do exactly what fascist regimes do when they get their Horst Wessel.  Which, again...they were ALWAYS going to do.

This is how it ends.  Justified, state-sponsored, state-protected violence against the opposition.   It's the "state-sponsored and state-protected" part that should have you shitting your pants.  For example, just this week, the trial of a man who tried to assassinate Trump is happening in Florida.  If the script was flipped, and there was a man who tried to assassinate Biden or Harris....do you think we'd even be having a trial under this regime?  Or would he be treated like the other people who attempted to take out our government by force, and be pardoned by the POTUS?  You know the answer.  The violence that is to come will either be by the State, or protected and pardoned by the State.

There was a window of time when we could have prevented this.  We are past that window.  Now?

It was the reelection of Obama in 2012. Trump getting reelected in 2024 ushered in an era of hopelessness that wasnt present during his first term. Pubs felt that same "Fuck this isnt going away" panic and started making moves, funding provocateurs like Kirk and Milo Yanopolis and getting in bed with Russia and Cambridge Analytica.

Apparently this is a pic of shooter. Oddly I just feel a lot of sadness looking at this. You couldn’t find a more normal looking college kid or dorm room. Another young male throwing his whole life away for nothing.

The pieces were always there.  There's an argument that this was inevitable.  But there is no question that two terms of Obama absolutely broke our national brain.  We clearly couldn't handle a black man as president...and we'll never recover from it.

Yeah honestly that’s liberal for Utah.

Yeah, other thing I saw in her FB feed was one post where she was praising Tyler (the dude in custody) for his 4.0 GPA.

I guess I tend to think of the usual teen shooter as being someone showing signs of distress in many/all phases of life. This kid was on the honor roll.

Yep.  This started with the founding of Fox News, through the Tea Party, through Trumpism, and beyond.

They've been playing a very long game.  And I'm afraid this isn't the end; it's the middle.

I think Obama and Biden actually did a very good job slowing it down for as long as they could.

When you say "no religion," I'm assuming you mean nothing overtly "advertised."  Or do you mean expressly disclaimed?

That is unusual I think in that part of Utah, which is pretty heavily Mormon.

But I'm not sure all Mormons "advertise."  Especially in a heavily Mormon place.
