Milley, in his book and elsewhere, has stated that he was dedicated at the end of Trump's reign of stupidity to prevent Trump from pulling some wag the dog shit, or attempt to mobilize the military against US Citizens.

One of his more explicit fears was that Trump would declare or provoke a war with Iran.

The malignant shitfunnel thinks that because the US has a plan for invading or otherwise prosecuting a conflict with Iran, likely endorsed or signed off on by CJCS Milley, that proves it wasn't his idea.

This is honestly my favorite part of any Trump news bomb.  The first few hours when all of his supporters are obviously frantically texting each other, "what the fuck?" and "how do we defend this shit?"  Sometime later tonight or tomorrow morning, the marching orders will be given and we will all learn the "defense" that will be used to slowly drive us insane over the next few months.

But these first few hours are magical.

“Like all Americans, Mr. Trump is entitled to the presumption of innocence. The government has the burden of proving its charges beyond a reasonable doubt and securing a unanimous verdict by a South Florida jury.

“By all appearances, the Justice Department and special counsel have exercised due care, affording Mr. Trump the time and opportunity to avoid charges that would not generally have been afforded to others.

“Mr. Trump brought these charges upon himself by not only taking classified documents, but by refusing to simply return them when given numerous opportunities to do so.

“These allegations are serious and if proven, would be consistent with his other actions offensive to the national interest, such as withholding defensive weapons from Ukraine for political reasons and failing to defend the Capitol from violent attack and insurrection.”

Also, very little that will actually secure him an acquittal.

He could try to okey doke I'm just a dumbass congenital liar and so fucking stupid that the inferences here don't apply because I'm not a sentient human being.  But that's going to be tough without him taking the stand.

He was angry about this piece in The New Yorker where Milley is taking credit for keeping Trump from starting a war w Iran in order to stay in power.  Trump was countering that it was Milley that wanted to start a war as evidenced by this highly classified document in his hands

If I were one of the Lionel Hutzes he's interviewing to rep him, I'd start my interview by saying, "I will not take this job if he insists on taking the stand."

But of course he's going to take the stand because he didn't take the stand in his last case and lost that one.  "Only I can show these people that I'm not guilty."

try not to pick up any indictments on the way to the parking lot!

This is so good

Yknow, you'd think the GQP might have a few qualms about having the first Presidential nominee, not named Lyndon LaRouche, subject to criminal indictments.

But yeah  . . .  Geezus Tapdancing Christ.

This indictment is so much more powerful than Bragg's.

If Trump hadn't stolen a fuckton of top secret documents and refused to return them, I doubt we would've ever seen any indictment of Trump regarding any 1/6 conduct from Garland. That would've been a much harder case to bring than this.

Well, the vast majority of Garland haters think he didn't have the stones to indict Trump for anything.  This proves that not to be the case.

I have been arguing all along that it isn't an issue of stones, it's an issue of proving the case and 1/6 is a humdinger for a prosecutor.

But Smith is showing himself to be a steely-eyed missile man, and if anyone can do it successfully, it sounds like him.

When I saw it had jumped 4 pages I knew there's was something happening.

Friday news dumps ahoy.

Ah, hoisted with his own dotard

I doubt there are credible legal arguments as to why Trump isn't completely fucked here.

I am still convinced there is a good chance the guy skates, or at least manages to drag this out long enough to die of natural causes before anything substantial happens.

I love that Trump's Gary Walsh is named Waltine.

I'm also assuming that an attorney who suggests he plead guilty here won't be his attorney for very long.

Very good video on the process and for those of you who are worried about any MAGATs screwing with the case as a jury member:

CSB: In the sprawling hippy compound behind Texas French Bread where I lived in Austin (now a condo,) there was a women who claimed to have known Robert Matthew Van Winkle aka Vanilla Ice in high school. She said his parents would leave town and he'd buy a keg of beer and throw parties. Then he'd call the cops on his own party so people would leave before the beer ran out. Then it would sit in his closet for a week, doing whatever unrefrigerated beer does during that time, until his parents went out of town again and he threw another party, using the same keg. dundundundadadundun. /CSB

I have second hand knowlege this happened multiple occasions in the mid-80s, but the details are different. These were typically attended by large numbers of high school kids so the keg floated in no time. He would collect money for a second keg and THEN call the cops on his own party.
