That's really good news about Washington possibly not letting Trump on the ballot.

Oh, you say Biden crushed Trump in Washington?  Nevertheless . . .

Had the weirdest dream last night. For some reason I was watching the election results in a public area here in OKC.  After Biden was declared the winner I started with the fist pumps and "Fuck Yeahs!". A news person saw me and came up to me to stick a camera in my face. Asked me something then I popped back with "Sic semper tyrannis". "This is how we deal with tyrants in the land of the free!"

I started getting booed by the magats around me, so I threw out another "Fuck Yeah!" and started flipping everyone the bird and calling them losers. I was obviously very gracious in victory.

Dream ended there. No idea if I made it out alive. However, if I find my self out in public on election night I already know the script.

In reality, I plan on making sure I'm sitting on my couch drinking bourbon in victory or defeat.

You didn’t make it out. Thats why you woke up. They tore you to pieces. I’ve seen Inception.

As others have said, lol, NY is a net giver in taxes.

I'm so sick of fake videos, like that AI generated Trump campaign speech in Georgia in which he's saying we should lock up Hillary and the Bidens.  You can't trust anything you see any more.

NPR had a former prosecutor on a few days ago. He said a fairly compelling argument could be made that the law cited to turn the misdemeanors into felonies was a tenuous connection at best. NPR is not wont to give airtime to shills, so I assume the guy was legit.

I was only partly paying attention. I don’t know if he was saying that was the tack trump’s lawyers should have taken with their case to the jury, or if it is a potential avenue for appeal

The most fertile ground for appeal, I think, is that jurors were given a choice of "predicate" offenses and were not instructed to agree on which one it was.  See Jury Instructions, starting at page 28.  https://www.nycourts.gov/LegacyPDFS/press/PDFs/People v. DJT Jury Instructions and Charges FINAL 5-23-24.pdf  Specifically:

Although you must conclude unanimously that the defendant conspired to promote or prevent the election of any person to a public office by unlawful means, you need not be unanimous as to what those unlawful means were. In determining whether the defendant conspired to promote or prevent the election of any person to a public office by unlawful means, you may consider the following unlawful means: (1) violations of the Federal Election Campaign Act otherwise known as FECA; (2) the falsification of other business records; or (3) violation of tax laws.

The choice stems from the fact that the actual "another crime" is NEW YORK ELECTION LAW § 17-152, which is as follows:

Any two or more persons who conspire to promote or prevent the election of any person to a public office by unlawful means and which conspiracy is acted upon by one or more of the parties thereto, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

The predicates 1, 2, and 3 are unlawful means.  So we have a triple nesting of statutes here.

That could potentially be a legal error that results in remand for a new trial.  It is about the only aspect of the case and jury instructions that wasn't well-settled in NY law, at least as far as I know or can tell from reportage etc.

People are doing a lot of spewing about evidentiary rulings, letting Stormy Daniels and Access Hollywood stuff in, keeping Trump's legal expert out.  I don't think those are going anywhere.

I wonder how many voters know that Trump owes the state of New York half a billion dollars, because massive fraud. Hell I had almost forgotten about it, between E. Jean Carroll and the whole paying hush money to a porn star thing.

House painting business?

I never heard that term until "the Irishman" movie.  And then Colin Jost at the White House Correspondent's dinner the other night made a funny wisecrack that his father literally had a side business of painting houses, but actually painting them...not murdering people.

My "Uncle" Jimmy was my father's lifelong friend.  He just died a few years ago after serving yet another stretch in prison.  "Uncle" Jimmy D. was married to one of Sam Giancana's daughters.  Speaking of the Mafia, Sam ran Chicago for many years from capo to acting boss to boss.  Uncle Jimmy would remark to my father he was "making models."  I came to realize he meant he was making a model out of guys that did something wrong.  My father and his family kept Jimmy safe in prison for many, many years.  They bribed other prisoners with canteen money, paid off guards to look the other way or offer special protection, because Uncle Jimmy had a lot of victim's families that weren't too happy with him.  It was how I learned, later in life, you can get to people in prison.  Obviously Trump is never seeing the inside of a jail cell, ever.  And even if he did, nothing is gonna happen to him with that security detail.  But I did learn from their mechanism that you can make people suffer in custody, so long as they're not the former President of the U.S.  To this day, 2 cholas that served with Jenna Ryan in the clink show up to her open houses to let her know she's still on their radar.  All because they were taken care of financially in lockup.

But yeah, this fucking guy.  He's never gonna see the inside of a cell.  But good news is, you can tell from the last couple of weeks...his body is eating itself from the inside.  And it's wonderful.

When’s his first drug test ?

Speaking of, when he demands Joe get a drug test for the debates, Joe just needs to say, “well, we already know the results of his, since they were mandated by his PO”.

Its time for the Dems to play by Pub rules.  Schumer needs to bring a string of laws up for vote regarding felons.  One proposal every week till November. Make pubs vote against proposals regarding  crime and felons in government.
1.  Proposal to make it illegal for felons to obtain security clearance at any level.
2.  Proposal to ban felons from serving  at any level in an administration or congress.
3.  Proposal to ban felons from being on Air Force 1, Marine 1, or any government vehicles unless handcuffed.
4.  Drug test and full body cavity search each time a felon attempts to enter White House.

“ Pubs = Weak on Crime. Party of Criminals !!”

I love this idea

What would Mitch McConnell have done if democrats were running someone convicted of 34 felonies? Probably found a way to cancel the election.

Look, it was a long time ago.  How the hell should I remember how he sliced the garlic?

Jimmy DiTale or Jimmy DiTalvo.  Had a couple other aliases.  But did the 'cleaning' for Sam Giancana, while he was married to his daughter and Sam ran Chicago.  Speaking of "Goodfellas", last time I saw Jimmy was between stretches at a near-South Chicago Italian joint called "Gennaro's."  I heard through an uncle he went back inside for something.  At that age, probably a parole violation or something.  Gennaro's conveniently had a fire that same year and closed down.

That same year, John Farrell.  Another lifelong friend of my father and "Uncle" Jimmy.  He ran a massive insurance fraud scheme.  The Rosemont Horizon just outside Chicago, I think called the AllState Arena now.  Massive indoor arena.  The roof collapsed in the late 1970's during construction, killed multiple people and millions in damages.  John was the "agent of record" on the insurance/liability end.  Using mafia-oversight labor which cut a lot corners on the construction.  John collected a lot of money in fees from that incident that should have probably gone elsewhere.  Just weeks before Jimmy died, John turned up dead of mysterious causes....nearly 40 years later.  And I thought I could hold a grudge.  /csb

Point is---all confidence men are eventually revealed for who they are.  I have faith in that.  What you have to worry about is how the victims and co-conspirators will lash out because it's human nature not to admit you're a fucking idiot.

Surly lawyers, what would happen if I just randomly punched cotton in the face?

Why would it matter how obscure or well known the source was? Why would that play a role in determining whether you condemn threats of violence against jurors?

Donald Trump was required to report to probation services to prepare a post conviction pre sentencing report for Judge Merchan.

From what I've read, he isn't required to participate in the pre-sentencing interview, but not doing so is going to piss off Merchan, and it would be in his best interest to get it scheduled.

You could not possibly be more mistaken if you'd said that Hitler was a better candidate, and here is why: The blue-collar workers who voted for Trump in 2016 would have voted for Bernie.

I can't fathom why people don't grasp this. The minute Hillary was nominated, Trump won the election. She was, in the flesh, the embodiment of the Democrats' cozying up to big business while taking Labor's votes for granted, a trend started by her husband in '92 that continued up until Biden finally started to actively take an interest in Labor's needs during his presidency.

I don't like Michael Moore one bit, but he was the only other person I know of who caught on to this back in 2016.

Looks like these folks fucked themselves and their legacies pretty good.  Wonder if they learned anything. Meh, probably dead from china virus.

This is rhetorical, but has anyone on team R said anything like “I will not support someone convicted of 34 felonies for President of the United States.”? They don’t have to even endorse Biden. Just say that a convicted felon probably shouldn’t be the leader of the free world.

I think those people have resigned, not sought re-election or have been primaried.
