If I were in that submarine, contemplating on the fact that I am going to die because we are lost and there’s no power or way to control the submarine, surrounded by the inky black crushing weight of freezing water—- I would for sure take a shit in that little toilet.

also....  call me fucking crazy...

but why in the holy hell would the submersible NOT have a fucking pinger? you know... the way they find airplanes that end up in water?

I understand the tourists not wanting to hear

every 10 mins on the descent... but maybe do something like a deadman stick where the operator has to hit the DONT PING button every 10 mins or so to keep the thing from pinging... and then, you know, when you fucking need it, let the mother fucker ping away.

at least if the ping works it  will lead the team to the pink mist remnants of the sub

No dead stick or loss of power auto ballast to float the thing?

We’re assuming there wasn’t a catastrophic hull failure or something.

Unfucking real that these people paid $250K to get an inverted glass bottom boat tour, I’d pay to not be on board.

I always said if our sub was sinking and approaching crush depth.  I would go back to my rack.  Eat my beef jerky and then rub one out.  Then take a nap

Honestly, give me the catastrophic hull failure. That freezing water rushing in would knock you out quickly and then pressure and water takes over.

No way in hell do I want to be drifting or sitting at the bottom in a lost submarine, listening to myself take a shit while staring down each of my fellow crew-members.

The pressure transient would knock you out if not kill you first.  You wouldn't even have time to feel that water

Apparently they have 96 hours of air if the sub didn't implode. I wonder how many doodies the shitter was designed to hold? Things could get a bit dicey on day three.

Apparently, this is not the first time the sub lost contact with the rest of the world:

Is there a curtain over that porthole? I'd hate for all the mermen to be able to watch me drop a deuce.

They mentioned how the sub  is secured from the outside. As in you need someone on the outside with a ratchet or wrench to open it up. Get caught in a current and surface 20 miles away from the ship, you could be looking out the porthole at that sweet, fresh outside. Yelling at the crew member for not having an emergency plan.

Was the sub using Starlink, or just the ship? I'm not up to speed about internet connections 10,000 feet below the ocean up to small orbiting satellites.

Doesn't matter, everyone on board was using all the available bandwidth to watch porn on their phones.

Shame that this was scrapped a few years back:

I don’t know why Project Azorian hasn’t been made into a big budget movie. So many great themes:

Cold War
Covert ops
Moonshot type of innovation/R&D
Risky/huge physical forces involved
Hughes cover story
O&G driller cowboys
Boat full of Russians / some bikinis
Near disaster during execution
Partial success
Everybody lived (except the dead Russians we gave a ceremonial burial at sea to)

I'd also announce to everyone that the name of that particular turd was "The Unsinkable Molly Brown."

It's almost a Clancy novel in real life.
