House just needs a simply majority, right?  Are the House Republicans stupid enough insist on the RIF and refuse to even hold a vote on healthcare when there's a 0% chance of it passing?

Not in Texas.

Texas is an open primary state. Registration isn’t a thing. You just can’t vote in both primaries. So most of these ex Republicans on here (in this forum, I mean) have been “Democrats” since they participated in Rush Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” and voted/caucused for Hillary Clinton in the 2008 primary.
Our precinct caucus in HaysCo was Hilarious. I was an Obama precinct captain and everyone caucusing for Obama was like a regular Democrat.  The people caucusing for Clinton were like 1/3 regular Democrats, 1/3 well known Republicans and 1/3 ringers from out of state the Clinton campaign had bussed in and demanding to be recognized before they were physically ejected.

This is what I'm seeing:

How can I change my party affiliation?

After affiliating with a party by voting in a party’s primary or by taking an oath of affiliation with a party, a voter cannot change their party affiliation during the calendar year. (§162.010) However, affiliation will automatically expire at the end of the calendar year.

I would not want to be stuck with that affiliation for a whole calendar year.

Ending the shutdown is the right thing. The fact that the democrats did it in the most politically degrading way possible is just fun theatre.

Even worse, heaven forbid you make one fucking donation to a democrat and you show up on the public record rolls and they sell your info and you start getting text messages from Gavin fn Newsome.

If you vote in the Dem primary you get automatically registered as a Democrat. So, unless you have an incredibly strong reason for doing so, I would abstain from voting in the Democratic primary.

What? The way we fix this is through primary elections. I like most of your takes but this is just stupid.

Want to stop those annoying Allred texts? Beat his ass in the primary.

The deal was agreed to by Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Susan Collins (R-ME) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), the ranking minority member on the panel, as well as House Appropriations Committee Chair Tom Cole (R-OK). But Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), the top Democrat on the House panel, did not sign off.

In a state like Texas? If you want to beat republicans you cannot run as anything besides an Independent.

So the whole purpose politically is to get a vote where the republicans vote against the subsidies for ACA publicly and then the Dems get to blame them for the rising premiums Americans are about to see.

Narrator: there will be no vote.

One critical Democratic convert, Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, said on Sunday evening that he was backing the deal after securing the provision in the temporary spending bill to reverse layoffs made during the shutdown and ensure furloughed workers would receive back pay.

Jacking up American's healthcare costs for what I'm assured is a titanium lock guarantee these constituents won't be let go at a later less headline-grabbing time. You stick it to 'em, Tim!

They really folded their hand while holding a royal flush.

How hard is it to say

"you the American people voted for republicans to run everything. You voted them to completely control the government. They will fuck you over. We can't help you, this is the country you voted for so enjoy finding out republicans want you broke and dead. When the next elections come up remember who is fucking you and who cant help because you chose to lock us out. We can only fix it if you give us complete control."

Seriously, how hard is this message to get out on every sporting event, every channel, every social media outlet? What the fuck are they using all that money they raised on?

No, senator. The American people are going to remember Democrats throwing in the towel and telegraphing to Republicans to do whatever the fuck they want since all they have to do is wait for you to blink first, because you will.

These people are, my God, so incredibly naive and honestly incredibly ignorant human beings. When an entire cult and their leader tell you who they are, what they are about and what they are going to do to your political party, you should believe them. The rules these morons are trying to abide by DO NOT APPLY ANY LONGER. I have a hard time fathoming how Democrats can be dumber than a guy who spray tans himself everyday. They are dumber than Gov. Hot Wheels. They are less intelligent than politicians who are actively part of a cult. You really have to be a box of rocks to have said "You know we'll just end this shutdown and trust that this time they won't pull the football when we go to kick it."

I am personally glad I am getting closer to no longer living in this country, but for those of you who have more ties to America and cannot just leave I empathize for the cruelty coming down the pike.

Like a broken clock you are occasionally correct. The failure to deschedule was one of 1000 things the Biden administration fucked up through shear bureaucratic incompetence.

Apparently there is a final vote still needed and some of the Democrats that voted yes on vote one are now wavering? Anyway, call those assholes.

Of course.

How does one get to be a senator and yet have so little courage, so little backbone, so little intelligence, and so little strategic thinking?

I would too, but I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from getting exasperated and giving the double bird to republicans, which would end my campaign pretty quick. Unless I ran as a Republican of course. Then it would probably help.

It’s almost as if the whole ‘fight’ or ‘principled stand’ was really just to win an off year election cycle.
I guess they can all pat their backs, and really pulled off a major victory by [checks notes] a Democrat winning the mayorship of New York City….

The myopia of these jackwagons is so unbelievable.

I’ll paraphrase RBG and say that the Dem ‘elite’ are throwing away their umbrella during a rain storm b/c they’re dry.

Trump and maga are losing because they keep making terrible policy. Let them continue to beat themselves idiots.

The only thing that might justify this is they think Rs are going to have to eat healthcare cuts more explicitly than if it is rolled up in the shutdown.

Maybe - the only bigger mistake would have been to procure an extension through 2026, which would prevented the pain until after the election.  I couldn't believe that they were actually discussing that option, but, hey - we are talking about the Democrats.

Pretty much agree on the points and the takeaway

So again, Democrats are chickenshit and left a little bit on the table, but probably extracted as much political advantage out of this as was realistic given the cast of characters involved.
I’ll add a couple of things:

1) A dejected base hurts, but a pissed off base is an advantage. The Republican base is coming out of this feeling like something is wrong with their baseball bat. The Democrat base are coming out of it saying “fuck you, Jobu, I’ll do it myself.”

2) This weed thing McConnell pushed into the CR is potentially a huge gift.

When a base and ‘base-adjacent’ is pissed off at their own party how is that an advantage?

Literally every successful turnaround of struggling political parties in the last century was mostly powered by party bases revolting against their own elite establishment.

dejection got Donald Trump reelected. Anger wins midterms.
