As we walked around their campus last year they attempted to trash talk more than Alabama or Michigan fans. They just did not know how since it must be new to them. The thing I heard the most was these Horns on campus is terrible, disgusting or fill in the insult. Horns down was a favorite but that is everywhere. Never heard them say we are beating the Horns today. I have a feeling this is going to be an obnoxious fan base come Saturday. So lets send them home with a loss.

Those pussies are going to have to take the loss.

I'm assuming Caldwell is starting this week with Arch in possible concussion protocol.

Gotta think Defense will be hungry to tighten things up next week after this tough outing tonight.  Caldwell being a bit of a mystery to Vandy should be an advantage for us, at least early in the game.

I don't think they'll let Arch on the field under any circumstances. This is at least two for Arch. They're dangerous and it seems the more of them you get, the easier it is to get concussed. Aren't they the reason Aikman retired?

Has anyone asked the question: Who is Caldwell's backup?

Will be interesting to see what Circa line comes out when it's announced Arch is out.

Probably Texas -14.0

Wow. What a shitty schedule.  Vandy @ Texas and ousux @ Tenn are only ranked on ranked matchups.

The team as a whole has to play tougher next week. Hopefully finally being back at home will help.

They have to play like they did in the 4th quarter yesterday and the second half in Dallas.  They've done it before.  They just need to do it more.  And I am confident they will.

Only one loss left on this year's schedule and it's in Athens, not Austin.

That’s a feature under Akina. 3rd and 3 we play 10 yards off

I don't recall that Akina's zones played particularly soft, just poorly.  It was doubly strange because in man coverage, they were as good as anyone or better.

I think the 10 yards off is a PK special and the bad coverage is an Akina contribution, perhaps "aided" by the absence of Taaffe.

Those are wingo drops.

So that means Wingo has been playing with "unreported broken hands" for the entire season, too????

That's the same BS we were told with Worthy's drops!

"Everybody who has drops has been playing with 'unreported broken hands.'"

It sounds like an EMERGENCY-LOOCH damage-control BS line.  FFS

As crazy as this season has been and as shitty as we've played at times, we are somehow 1 win away from a bye week and a chance to get rested and healthy with everything still on the table.  Guys are going to have to dig deep with backup QB + 2 missing OL starters and D playing a ton of snaps in back to back weeks, but at least finally at home.

I don't know much about Vandy outside of Pavia and Stowers and haven't been able to watch them a ton.  I watched a good chunk of the LSU game and saw LSU (without Weeks) play man with no spy on Pavia and get torched repeatedly.  Did not see any of Mizzou game but looking at box score they clearly rectified that.

Weeks actually played that game, with Perkins primarily spying. Idk where to even begin with this team, especially given the Sark rumors. Somehow, we keep winning. Hopefully, with us playing at home for the first time in a month, that streak will continue.

Perkins is undisciplined and an inconsistent tackler. Athletic as hell, but Pavia ran him into blockers or used stutter steps and angles to get the yards he needed when scrambling.

Any concerns that our defense gave up 38 points to MSU?

Offenses have hurt Texas with TEs and crossing routes the last 2 weeks. Vandy has an NFL TE. They will be happy to take the underneath stuff. I don’t think Vandy has any crazy speed on the outside, so I don’t think the DBs will play as deep as last week. Vandy will use the same formula though. They will attack Guilbeau, Littleton, and the LBs with the passing game.

Take away Pavia’s legs and I don’t think he can beat our secondary. He’s dangerous when he breaks contain and improvises

No. Aggy gave up 42 to fucking Arkansas then shutdown lsu. Every game is different. And we play up and down to who we play, at home vs a loud mouth pavia I expect the defense to play elite like we’ve seen them play.

Lebby's offenses have given PK some fits (OU 2023, 2025 MSST)

I suspect it looks more like UK than MSU, unless they tighten up the coverages. Not particularly high scoring, but Vandy plays play control and chews the clock

Texas is the current betting favorite. I want to believe.

1. Home game

2. We're probably ~equivalent to LSU. Vandy barely beat them on home turf.

3. Best defense they'll face

4. We are not anointing any more Taysom Hills.

5. Their having to prepare for the unknown of Manning vs Caldwell

This team is going to be pretty pumped to play at DKR, since they haven't done so since September.

Yup.  And they've traveled about 6,000 miles over the past 4 weeks.  Simply NOT having to travel, is going to make a difference.

Agreed with these points. Akina / PK called uncharacteristically soft coverages last week. I don't know if we saw something in MSU's offense that we didn't like or what, but it was strange. I think @Js1 is probably right and PK was having flashbacks to OU in 2023 - Shapen isn't quite the level of dink-and-dunk artists that Gabriel was, but he works well in the Briles system. Guess it's that Baylor DNA. Outside of their TE, I don't think Vandy has the speed or the athletes to really worry us. I'm more concerned about us getting gutted on slants over the middle. That was a constant problem in 2023 and this secondary, without Taaffe, seems almost as vulnerable as that unit. I'm especially disappointed in Guilbeau. I didn't even expect much from the dude, but he seems dumber than a bag of rocks.

I 100% agree that we need a "whole team" game this week. It seems like some weeks the offense plays well enough to win (Florida, MSU) and other weeks it's the defense leading the way (OSU, UK), but we've only seen one game against real competition where both sides of the ball carried their weight - OU. And even against OU, the offense needed an entire half before it found its footing. If the whole team comes to play, I think Texas can beat Vandy comfortably. We have better athletes and comparable coaching. Pavia is veteran, clever, and dangerous with his legs, but that can be accounted for. There's enough tape on him and this team plays well against mobile QBs. If Sark calls a friendly scheme and Caldwell can hit the easy passes, that should be enough to make up for the lack of a run game. Side note, but I'm following the staff's lead and abandoning my hopes for a run game. The RB room is too banged up and too young, and our OL is dogshit anyway. I'm hoping we can scrape together enough offense on the ground to keep Vandy's defense honest, but we will live and die by the QB's arm.

We will lose. Bigly.

Man, you have completely lost the plot the last two weeks. Did you start rooting for Texas in 2022 or something? Why are you not desensitized to baffling adversity for this program? How are you still this soft? Seriously, you are reaching @6th Street's level of pants pissing and shitposting. Say what you will about @satyanash's negativity, at least he generally includes some analysis or information about why he is dooming. You just seem to feel compelled to type dumb shit in every thread.

We get it. You don't think the team is very good. Try posting something else, or maybe just stay away from the football board for the rest of the season.

Losing to a bunch of Rice Institute rejects should be a fireable offense. I don't care how good this Vanderbilt squad is.

We have to get the opposite corner spot solved. . I’m so tired of seeing Gilbeaux giving up a 10yard hitch on 3rd and 7 . .

Things like this don't get solved at this point in the season. We're going into game nine. The team is what it is.

On the one hand, Texas matches up well with Vandy's run heavy offense and the team and crowd will likely be excited for the first home game in a month and the first conference home game of the year -  welcome shot in the arm given the ride they've been on the past month. Team should be feeling some confidence after the rally in Starkville. This should be a lot easier to get up for that a roadie against UK or MSU.

On the other hand, Vanderbilt is better than both MSU and Kentucky, who Texas coulda/shoulda/woulda lost to if not for their own shittiness on the field and on the headsets. The only reason Texas is not universially considered the worst team in the SEC right now is that they kicked themselves in the nuts just one or two times fewer than Kentucky or MSU did. That's not a super high bar to clear and they still barely managed it. Presumably Lea and the Vandy staff are not as dumb as Stoops and Lebby. The OL is the worst in P4 and will continue to hamstring the offense even if you get P4 replacement level play out of the QB position, which is not at all a given.

Wild cards: What's the dynamic in the locker room with the Sark rumors having time to bake in? What's Manning's status and, assuming Caldwell starts, what does he give you in a full game context? Is Taaffe playing?

I think the only outcome that would really surprise me is Vandy just delivering a black saturday, 56-7 type beatdown. Beyond that, I think both teams have viable paths to victory both tight and comfortable. Will be an interesting one.

I think it was MSU WR speed that dictated the coverages.  I think our plan was to make them march the field and my make Shapen (sp) complete a high number of throws.  PK likely felt like we could get to the QB enough, but he played really well overall and the 80 yard shovel pass could have been a back breaker.  We were able to put some things together finally and hit on several down the field throws.  Defensively it was not our best game but the offense/ST (despite the missed chip shot and errant punt) bailed us out.  We gott a W on the road, ask Bama how hard it is to do that multiple times in a row.

Survive and advance.  Our traveling party had a great time. We brought about a dozen people , overall pleasant experience in Starkville, really only ~1K Texas fans from what i could tell, not many of us there.

The pass rush was missing which made the soft coverages suck even more.

Luckily they got home in clutch time, but overall that QB had more than enough time to make reads and throw.

DEs were getting stonewalled.

This game will come down to if we can keep them from grinding the clock.  They like to go on time churning, 10-15 play drives that take up half a quarter.  With our inefficient offense we can't let that happen.  I would prefer we be ultra aggressive on D and if we give up a long score, so be it.

One loss left huh..

So you're saying we're going to have a classic BlowU in the Cotton bowl underdog yet dig deep and find a way to win against aggy?

What gives me hope is an even worse Texas team managed to beat a team featuring Kyler Murray, Hollywood Brown and CeeDee Lamb among others.
