i have always assumed he'd run and win by a ton, but i think this is a good point.  antivaxxers are a significant number of his voters and it could trigger some outsized reaction from them.

one other thing is i've never seen numbers that articulate who his voters were in 2016 versus 2020.  8 years between 2016 and 2024 is a long time.  with an 80 year life span, it seems to imply 10% of his 2016 voters will be dead by then, 5% of his 2020.  was the increase between 2016 and 2020 just the same demographic profile as the original 2016 R voting bloc(k), just four years older?  or was he able to backfill effectively with yoots, who cannot be counted on to die by 2024.  i assume the big jump in D votes were spread throughout the age brackets.

(as i'm writing this, i just googled the answer; at least a good substitute to it in contemporaneous self-identification of party.  it looks like trump's voting base just aged and he didn't back fill with kids.  biden did fine with kids.  i think that is the most positive thing i've seen to make me think trump won't win again in 2024)

They packaged the data wrong.  They are showing Rep and Dem both at 100% when the values in each are not equal.  They should show it as a percentage of the total of registered voters so that R+D+ Independent = 100%

also, they should probably update those numbers post-Covid

Cross posting from another thread.  I think it actually fits here better.

Warning: Amateur analysis follows

It's a multi-dimensional problem.  I'll focus on percentages to simplify the number of voters but we know the voter rolls increased significantly in 2020 from 138 in 2016 million to 157 million.  19 Million more voted and we no a lot of those came from the normally don't vote (Unpredictable category below).  It was a very steep climb over 2016.  In fact the population growth and eligible voter growth was trending lower while voter participation looks like the highest/steepest change ever. (see red line on this graph) https://www.statista.com/statistics/1139763/number-votes-cast-us-presidential-elections/

  • You have baseline voters of maybe 20% for each party (of registered voters) that will always vote D or R
  • Your max voter turnout is probably 70% of registered voters, so you have the remaining ~60% of registered voters to split up between never going to vote 30%, normally R 10%, normally D 10%, Unpredictable 10%

In the last election we had 66% turnout.  Of that 66% there were 51% that voted Biden and 47% that voted Trump so out of all Registered voters it was

  • 34% Biden
  • 31.5% Trump
  • 1% other
  • 33.5% Did not vote

This means that Trumped probably maxed out on the Always 20, got some from the Normally R and some of the Unpredictable to get that 31.5%.

Biden out perform and pulled in some of the normally R votes in 2020 and a larger percentage of the Unpredictable.  What worries me is that he probably can't do that twice in a row.  If Biden and Trump both lose their Unpredictable pieces and we only have a 60% voter turnout Would Biden have won?

(Yes, I'm ignoring EC System here but I think the general math plays a part in the swing states)

Thanks for all of that, because I really think people are ignoring just how many people showed up in '20, who didn't in '16.

Taking out the Unpredictables, I think Trump still brings out more anti-Trump votes among reliable voters than Biden brings out anti-Biden voters. There were plenty of folks impacted by the pandemic who felt Trump couldn't see us through it.

Speaking of, I also wonder about the impact COVID deaths has had (almost all of them were of voting age).

Edit: While you and I can go look up individual relatives/friends/etc. and see if they voted in 2016 and 2020 (and in places like Oklahoma we can even see their party affiliation), we know the larger Republican/Dem organizations have boiled that data down and have it mapped out.

@Brisketexan this looks like some good grift to get into - they didn't even bother fixing his chin or anything, just slapped an unflattering portrait on a coin.

From my checking-private-mint-prices-years-ago-then-drinking-box-wine blurred memories, I'd go with:

The gold one: With a mark-up of $400+ per ounce, they are literally minting money. Anything unsold, they can sell off at melt which may still be more than they paid for it.

The silver one: Honestly I'd be surprised if they did better than a small profit on these, unless they have some deal to move hundreds of them at a time. Too easy for silver to drop 5 bucks then they are working as an involuntary non-profit.

The copper one: I don't know who stands to lose more money on copper collectibles, the people who buy them, or the people who sell them. Unless they have some buyer who wants thousands at a time, I can't figure out how it works. Selling a dozen, packing, and shipping them? You make more money cutting grass. Speaking as a guy who has sold copper rounds and cut grass.

Fine. Bloc. You’re right.

But no conviction means no vote.

I understand the pessimism. Things are bad, no doubt. Very bad.

But things often get bad. If I’m Winston Churchill with the nazis overtaking all of Europe and basically the entire British army stuck and basically trapped in France, it would be easy to just give up and negotiate some sort of peace too.

That didn’t happen, and the world got a reprieve from history, if only for a short while.

You poor gullible bastard. Of course they'll still vote for him, because the wall, and abortion, and critical race theory, and socialism, and her emails, and "Let's Go Brandon."

He can go on and on and on about vaccines, but as long as he throws in a little more red meat here and there, they'll vote for him, or more importantly, against the fascist, communist, marxist, woke, sjw, beta cuck dumbocrat.

that's a pretty clear signal that the RNC is preparing for Trump to be the 2024 candidate.

Or that, other than trying to "own the libs," RNC positions can't withstand scrutiny or debate.  Recall that they had no platform for 2020.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/14/politics/desantis-trump-covid-response/index.html

Quote

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said one of his biggest regrets in office was not speaking out "much louder" in March 2020, when former President Donald Trump advised the nation to stay home to slow the fast-spreading coronavirus.

DeSantis, a close ally of Trump, said he was involved in the early days of the White House's pandemic response and had been offering advice to the President. But he was surprised when Trump made the decision that led to much of the US economy shutting down.

Quote

"I never thought in February, early March, that (coronavirus) would lead to locking down the country," the Republican governor told the hosts of the conservative podcast "Ruthless" during an episode recorded Thursday. "I just didn't. I didn't think that was on the radar."

DeSantis blamed "people like" Dr. Anthony Fauci for advising Trump to consider a shutdown. Fauci, the country's top infectious disease expert, was part of a coronavirus response team that was led by Vice President Mike Pence and included other public health experts. But the decision was Trump's to make, and DeSantis ultimately followed the White House's lead, closing Florida schools, government buildings, gyms, bars and restaurant dining rooms and advising Floridians to stay home.

Quote

DeSantis' remark Thursday follows reports that Trump has privately grumbled about the lack of fealty from his former protege. In conversations with allies, previously reported by CNN, Trump has expressed displeasure that DeSantis, one of the Republican Party's most-talked about leaders, has declined to publicly rule out a 2024 presidential bid if Trump seeks another four-year term.

Indeed, days before DeSantis' podcast appearance, Trump seemed to call out the Republican governor during an interview released Tuesday night. Trump described politicians who won't say if they received a coronavirus booster shot are "gutless." The quip was viewed as a thinly veiled knock on DeSantis, who declined to share his vaccination status during a widely shared December interview with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo.

"I watched a couple politicians be interviewed and one of the questions was, 'Did you get a booster?' Because they had the vaccine and they're answering like -- in other words, the answer is 'yes' but they don't want to say it, because they're gutless," Trump told OAN.

Somebody is worried Donnie might run again.

Or they are trying to distance themselves from Trump.

I have always felt like Trump’s way of politicking isn’t sustainable and that it was only a matter of time before his base fractured, but I have been so dead wrong guessing when that would happen, always thinking his shitshow would collapse only to see it continue.  But I think between the fairly powerful people Trump has betrayed/antagonized and the acolytes he’s embraced who have their own time-sensitive aspirations, the next 3 years will be a bigger challenge for Trump than 2015-2020 was.

Seeing/hearing rednecks, Qtards, and “traditional conservatives” turn on him warms my fucking heart.

Yes, the one thing I've learned from watching Donald Trump over the past four decades is that he is really great at protecting other people. He is totally selfless and thinks only of others.

I know, fml.  I did stop short of saying he was about to go down.  I still think he will get the GOP nom and have a chance of beating Biden.  I just think it’ll be harder for him than it was the last time.

He may lose the election and still be awarded the presidency by Republican legislatures who’ll hand him the electors from States that Biden won.

That is 100% the plan. And what are you gonna do about it, pussy libtard? (Such thinking being why they’re doing it - they can get away with it).

I think that line of thinking dramatically underestimates the violence that would ensue, perpetrated by pussy libtards.  You see the Georgia leg change the vote of their electors and there will be riots that make Rodney King and the 60s look like tiddlywinks.

There would have to be. Remember how we’ve pointed to the GQP again and again doing the very things they complain of? “You’ve taken away all of our rights and freedoms - Biden is an authoritarian dictator, therefore we HAD to storm the Capitol! Violence was the only way to save our country!”

Then, they proceed to….actually do what authoritarian dictatorships do - just flat-out void the votes of the citizens, and how DARE anyone respond with violence!

This is the play. Stop giving a fuck what they think. If the GQP lege in key states voids the votes and declares the GQP candidate the winner, thus awarding the presidency, there should be a nationwide general strike, transportation blockades, and yeah….I don’t see how you get out of it without violence.
