The US Capitol has been Breached [Action and Developing stories]

That woman getting shot was her fault.

  • She traveled from California with the intent to cause civil unrest.
  • She crossed a barricade to keep people out of the Capitol Grounds.
  • She crossed the threshold of the steps and another barricade outside the building.
  • She illegally entered the building through a locked door or broken window.
  • She pushed her way past guards in the building.
  • She attempted to get to the chambers where at least the top 3 in line of succession (Pence, Pelosi, Grassley) and the next VP were.
  • This was an attempt to follow through on the threats in Michigan to capture the political leadership, hold them hostage, put on a mock trial and potentially execute them (symbolized by the gallows outside).
  • If anything, the capitol police and secret service did not shoot soon enough.  Sure they showed great restraint, but should they have?  One shot means that guy was a pro at his job.
  • Even then there was minimal loss of life only because the rioters/terrorists paused when the first one was shot long enough for the leaders to evacuate. Not because they realized they were wrong.
  • Because of this I think her death was necessary to prevent further loss of life and buy time for the evacuation.

The charges need to go beyond the illegal entry and destruction of property to include sedition, treason, domestic terrorism, they should also have the charges amplified (Need right legal word) for someone dying in the act of committing those crimes.  Those with firearms should face the potential for capital punishment.

No half-measures or they will be emboldened.  Trump said it himself, you have to show them strength. Use Trumps order on protecting federal buildings and get the 10 year felony convictions.  No voting, no gun ownership, add them to federal domestic terrorist watch list, no government jobs or contracts.  Make them examples and personae non-grata.

All of this. Consider if this had been one of our embassies halfway across the world. What would our security response have been? Why exactly did we have a lesser response when almost our entire government was in the building?

I hate that someone died. But it was absolutely justified and necessary once she crossed that line.

Some retired military are the worst.

If my wife's current husband (Retired Colonel and super Maga) was on fire I wouldn't piss on him.  I take back all the nice shit I said over the years, partly because of his Maga-ness, partly because over the holidays I found out that he's a fucking perv who made inappropriate sexual comments to my daughter starting when she was in 7th grade.

The fuck? He watches too much step-porn.

In all seriousness, I had to take a Family Law Domestic Violence CLE as part of my mediation credentialing, and one stat that jumped out to me was that the number one predictor of whether a child would be sexually abused was whether there was a step-father in the home.

Uh, no, they weren't charged under that law.

The actual charges were (again, from the person who wrote the actual charges) 18 USC 844 (f)(1)

(1)

Whoever maliciously damages or destroys, or attempts to damage or destroy, by means of fire or an explosive, any building, vehicle, or other personal or real property in whole or in part owned or possessed by, or leased to, the United States, or any department or agency thereof, or any institution or organization receiving Federal financial assistance, shall be imprisoned for not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years, fined under this title, or both.

I know blacklab personally.  He is a good guy, and he really hates political shit flinging.  There's a place for political discourse, and many of us are able to keep our discussions there.  Some simply can't or won't.  If he's putting you in a time out it's because you can't follow the rules someone bitched to him about it.

You apparently haven't been to DT in the last 10 months or so.

Do you deserve to be shot if you, say, burn down a police precinct?

He organized a bus of Trump supporters from Pa. for ‘the first day of the rest of our lives.’ He died in Washington.

JULIA TERRUSO
  • WASHINGTON — Ben Philips drove to Washington in a white van Wednesday, smiling over the steering wheel as he explained the significance of the day.

“It seems like the first day of the rest of our lives, to be honest,” he said, eager to protest what he believed was a stolen election with throngs of other Trump supporters, including a group from Pennsylvania he brought to Washington. “They should name this year Zero because something will happen.”

Philips, 50, of Bloomsburg, died that day after suffering what fellow protesters said was a stroke in the nation’s capital. Washington police confirmed his death.

The group of Pennsylvanians he organized returned without him on a quiet, somber ride home, following a violent day when insurrectionists incited by President Donald Trump’s false claims of election rigging attacked the Capitol building. Philips was one of four people who died amid the chaos. There’s no indication Philips himself participated in the raid on the Capitol.

I don't like this guys politics. Not liking someone's politics does not mean they deserve a death sentence.

No one said anything about a death sentence, you straw man fabricating fuck.

The dude died of a heart attack brought on by circumstances he willingly and gleefully participated in.

I will not mourn stupidity as a tragedy.

Guess he shouldn't have tased himself in the balls then.

Or if he was a different medical emergency I guess he shouldn't have participated in a riot that his fat ass's heart couldn't take.

If that's you minus 30 lbs with less facial hair I'd suggest you start intermittent fasting and think about investing in a personal grooming tool.

ETA: Happy birthday!

Yeah, recently found out his nickname for my daughter while she was in high school was "Tits on a stick".

I thought about shooting him, but his current employer is Houston Police Department.  Not worth the trouble.

Came out wrong on the weight.  Meant that I am about 30lbs less than that guy. His hair is better though.

If anyone was wondering how our pandemic response was going

Well yesterday (1/6/21) had the highest number of deaths (4,000+) from Covid since the start of the Pandemic.

So yesterday was a banner day!

(Gosh, i can't understand how Trump didn't get re-elected. Things are going so well!)

As one of Mo Brooks’s unfortunate constituents, let me let you in on a secret.

Mo Brooks is legitimately mentally handicapped.

He has absolutely no clue what the “FA” in Antifa stands for.

The man’s a bootleg Foghorn Leghorn muppet with barbecue for brains.

oh yeah, well Texas sees your Mo Brooks and raises you one Louie Gohmert!

The cops are scum.  This is the leader of their entire group.  Defund the police?  No, do more than that.  Ban any existing cops for ever serving as a cop again.

Can you read this and tell me that you trust the cops at all?  On anything?  They have chosen a side, politically, and are actively working AGAINST us.  What happened yesterday was almost certainly in part an inside job.

Ban all existing cops?  That seems a tad overboard.

Hopefully, the Chicago FOP will oust this wingnut now that his ludicrous (and factually-inaccurate) comments have seen the light of day.

She shouldn't have. She should have been stopped outside the capitol grounds before she tested the oath of a secret service agent

Aside: I’ve only seen the shooter referred to today as Capitol Police. Where are you getting that he was SS? Just because he was wearing a suit?

Thread of a guy enlisting help to ID individuals and their gear. He claims to have ID'd one of the terrorists as recently retired military and has submitted info to FBI. Spoiler alert: that guy was a Longhorn. It's a scary AF thread because it appears to show that those who attacked the Capitol were basically two groups: 1) gawkers/selfie fools and 2) organized paramilitary intent on taking hostages.

(siap - I haven't been able to keep up this this whole thread)
