Don't worry about finding the stadium, you'll be given plenty of help, but watch your cornhole.

Seriously - fly into Houston, not close to campus at all (1 1/2 to 2 hours drive from IAH). Hotel accommodations are not of the premium level.
For one, expect the humidity level to be higher than a Northerner has experienced in August/early September. Dress in “light” clothing.

Campus is actually providing things to see if you come in early, like the day before. The George Bush (Senior) Museum is just on the outskirts of the campus and is actually quite nice.

If you haven’t ever experienced the “aggy cult,” you are forewarned. Pre-game they make it feel like you’re playing Army or Navy, but their tan clad students are mostly playing cos-play! So don’t step on the grass!

Hook’em!!!

So aggy is onto Reveille X now. Does that make it A&M 9, Guest 0?

Nebraska has never won a game in the men’s basketball tournament. Very nice no win situation for aggy.

If they win then it was expected because Nebraska has never won. If they lose they go down as the same that finally got Nebraska over that hump.

Okay, yeah. You don’t have to pussyfoot around it. Taylor is a known bagman and it ultimately caused his fall from grace at SEC schools in a public manner because of the level of overt corruption he took it to eventually. It’s a worthless skill now. He’s just an old asshat on a staff of asshats.

his career path is super unique for some...unknown reason.

still can't believe that A&M let Elko hire that guy. i am SO looking forward to watching their RB room descend into a flaming dumpster fire.

“Bagman” is such a great term.

Problem- you want to pay a player, against the rules. Where does the money come from? How is it delivered? Constraints- no records of transaction , no misdirection of funds, no traceability to coaches, administrators or Big Money Donors

Where does the money come from? Not from coaches and not from the school  it has to come from BMDs

What form does the money come in? Cash, because you don’t want records of checks or wirings

Solution- “bagman”. Put cash in a bag and have a low level employee or associate hand deliver it, along with precautions about triggering auto bank disclosures of excessive cash amounts.

In the late 1980s, the Ags were being blackmailed by a former player, George Smith, in Georgia. Rather than hand deliver a bag of cash (requiring a couple days of driving or a plane ticket), the Ag football office FedExed $20k in cash, which was then opened by Smith in view of a DMN writer.

And that’s why bagmen were needed.

In recruiting, SMU used young boosters to deliver the cash to recruits around the state. That way, the BMDs (like Edwin Cox and Bill Clements) didn’t get their hands dirty, the recruits got the cash, and the young boosters (like Sherwood Blount) got to network with the BMDs, in ways they never would have been able to, otherwise.

SMU used junior AD employees to deliver the cash to players on the team.

Somewhere, floating around the internet, is an NCAA report on Alabama recruiting violations in the 90's. They promised a kid $20k for signing. $10k up front and $10k after signing. The kid took the first briefcase full of $100's and then signed with someone else. Boosters were out $10k and couldn't do a thing about it.

Also probably the first time an AD one side, and the coach on the other are co-defendants in a lawsuit.

Of course, a brand new 1979 Trans Am only cost around $7,200, so advantage aggy.

Pretty small briefcase. Perhaps you meant to say "wallet"?

Before the days of everyone having ring cameras or other sources of home security the mailbox drop was a good way to do it. According to an ex LSU bagman I met in a bar many years ago they would simply drop off a plain, unmarked envelope filled with cash in the proper mailbox, then shortly after someone would call the player or family member contact to chat, talk about how great it would be if they (or their kid) played for (insert SEC school) then towards the end of the convo casually ask if they had gotten their mail for the day...and if not they should check it out asap. The last part was to make sure they know who it was coming from, yet no paper trail that would give them away. According to this dude it was so common at one point in time they had to stop using it in some cases and go back to direct handoffs. No, not because the NCAA was aware, but rather relatives/friends/acquaintances of highly sought after recruits knowing about this method and going through the kids parents mailbox looking for unmarked envelopes to steal.

I haven’t seen a second of corn basketball this year, but I’m looking forward to see TexAgs reaction to this dude.

It's a win/win situation for aggy.  If they win against NU then they won a playoff game, if they lose then they just stole the AD that created the powerhouse that beat them

Sayonara, aggy.

Japanese Steph Curry, Mr. Reynolds?  You're just gonna leave that there?  Asian Curry?  Corn on one side, rice on the other?  The simulation is just a giant spherical Crispix?

What in the fuck is going on here anymore people?  The closer we get to Easter, the more insane this all gets.

That dude is not going to settle well on the aggy front, with the GB Museum on campus. Anti-Japanese based on Bush.

I hope he tears them up!

He played a year for Billy Gillespie at Ranger too

The smile on his face when the cop asks him if he's the  ole ball coach  from A&M (~2:28) cracked me up. I'd have told the cop to "shut the fuck up, nobody needs to know anything about that up here"

Yes $10,000 will still get him off. They say sitting in the driver seat = driving even when parked but yeah never do the tests, talk as little as possible and be nice because you are on camera.

the guy averaging 14.9 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 1.4 APG and shooting <50%?

the guy who has scored >30 points twice this season (31 and 30) - one of which required OT and going 5/8 on 3's and 8-8 at the line and the other which required him to go 5-8 from 3 and the other which required his single best shooting FG% of the season?

the guy never has had more than 6 rebounds in a game this year and hasn't ever had more than 4 assists in a game. dude averages 1.4 assists per game vs 1.2 turnovers per game.

i fully expect him to go for 40 against A&M now lol

Yep. Know a guy who left a bar and realized he shouldn't drive, so he decided to sleep it off in his driver's seat. Cops found him in the parking lot and arrested him because they said the key in the ignition showed intent to drive.

My ex-BIL was arrested in FAR west Texas in the 80's for DWI. He contacted a local attorney who told him that he could handle the case for $10,000. My BIL ask him how he was going to handle it. The attorney said just give him $10,000 and don't ask any questions. It magically all disappeared.

I once contacted an attorney regarding some legal issues.  I told him I had two questions and also asked what I should expect to pay for his counsel regarding the two questions.

He said "$1,500.00.  What's the second question?"

I did not buy this so I Googled it and it is worse than that in Texas they do not even require intent.

"If you are on private property and intoxicated, your vehicle may look like a good place to sleep it off. But don't put yourself in the position of appearing to operate the vehicle, or you may suffer a DWI arrest. Texas DWI law does not require your intent to drive somewhere."

This is the exact scenario in a scandal  currently rocking ABQ PD. DWI squad was in cahoots with a local DWI defense lawyer. Apparently he would pay cops not to show up. Hundreds of pending cases have been dismissed. One of the cops had been MADD officer of the year.
The best articles are from the ABQ Journal but they’re all behind a paywall.
