So this is how shitty things are. I'm not sure that a short prison sentence--if there is one--even hurts him. If anything maybe it motivates a few lethargic voters to get off their couch on election day to keep a "politically targeted" candidate out of prison. I'm very willing to find out though.

Yeah, since his conviction has seemed a nothingburger  or actual pro to the base, and most of the rest of us who concluded he was a grifting crimey piece of shit even before prosecution and conviction, I don't think it makes much of a shit.

And it will all be subject to appeal anyway.

Hey look, Aileen taking more bribes!

https://www.propublica.org/article/judge-aileen-cannon-trump-documents-case-travel-disclosures

Quote

Cannon’s annual disclosure form for 2023, which was due in May and offers another chance to report gifts and reimbursements from outside parties, has yet to be posted. (Cannon reported the two Montana trips on her annual disclosure forms, but the required 30-day privately funded seminar reports had not been posted. In 2021, Cannon incorrectly listed the school as “George Madison University.”)

The court’s administrative office declined to say if she requested a one-time extension to give her until Aug. 13 to file. A spokesperson would not discuss whether she met the deadline or the status of her disclosure, which must be reviewed internally.

Cannon’s performance during almost four years of a lifetime appointment has drawn criticism from lawyers, former federal judges and courtroom observers who told ProPublica that she doesn’t render timely decisions and has made unpredictable rulings in both civil and criminal matters. On July 15, she threw out the case brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith that alleges Trump mishandled classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence; Cannon called Smith’s appointment unconstitutional since he was not nominated by the president and approved by the Senate.

Smith is appealing to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has asked the court to remand her decision and replace her.

By contrast, Trump, who appointed Cannon in 2020 to the Fort Pierce courthouse, has praised her brilliance, and Federalist Society founder Steven Calabresi called her a heroine for throwing out the criminal case against Trump.

For decades, judicial education programs sponsored by George Mason’s Law and Economics Center have drawn in 5,000 state and federal judges and four current Supreme Court justices, according to its website. The school says its programs strive for balance and intellectual rigor. But conference agendas and speaker lists that the university must file with the courts detail lectures and panel discussions built around Federalist Society principles that are associated with conservative legal movements.

Ken Turchi, associate dean for external affairs, said the law school plays no role in judicial disclosures. “Judges’ decisions to submit (or not submit) disclosure forms are theirs alone — it’s a self-reporting process,” he said.

The guest list for the May 2023 Scalia Forum included William H. Pryor Jr., chief judge of the 11th Circuit, which is now hearing Smith’s appeal. Pryor and dinner speaker Kyle Duncan, a 5th Circuit judge, did file their required disclosures for the Scalia dinner.

Sheeeit, a Rolex President is under $50.  Most Pateks are around that. What a load of shit.

I assume $50K.

Not a watch collector, but having designed the internal shock mount for an upstart watchmaker, I learned a couple of things about movements, etc.  I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that the Trump movement is essentially standard issue $500-ish "buy and package" shit.

Lara Trump will ensure that the RNC buys these watches at full price and then hand them out to VIP donors. I could see Trump learning how some donors give directly to the RNC, bypassing his campaign, and they needed a method to point that money back over to him.

I'd bet something Chinese and cheap.  https://www.romlicenwatch.com/a-complete-guide-to-chinese-watch-movements/

That must have been an interesting project.  Clean sheet design?

That see through face and back, and movement looks a lot like the one on the cheap watch I bought on Amazon years ago for like $70 with a sapphire works made in Japan.  The diamonds are gaudy as shit.  Gold is gold though, but paying 1000% for gold doesn’t seem like a winning investment.

Well, it wasn't targeting the Patek crowd, these watches sell in the $2K range.  Movement was some well-known Swiss device (I think Swiss).  The shock mount was new from the ground up, and way surpassed drop test requirements (which was the goal).  That's all I worked on, but I believe the case, etc. were also ground up.

Well, the brief, that ties it all together, was made public a week or so ago, this is the actual appendix of evidence.  The brief is 165 pages, the appendix many times that.

So, I'm guessing ain't nobody got time for that or tl;dr.  So, probably not.

There might be some juicy pieces that make for "good" tweets or whatever.

Seriously, though, in context, an attempted assassination/murder is a much simpler case than a classified documents case.

And, a first trial setting never holds unless for some bizarre reason the defendant lets it.

Yes, Eileen is definitely on the up and up.

*Aileen.

Regardless of the judge, what I said is broadly true.  A murder case, despite having an intent element, just relies, typically, on eyewitnesses and actions that pretty clearly evince the requisite intent.

This, along with the news that he tried to get Stormy to sign another NDA and probably 10 other things by month's end. Sure. Why not!

When Aileen Cannon has Trump’s stolen classified documents case, sure.

Remember when Donald Trump was found guilty in a criminal case, sentencing was imminent, and several other of his pending trials seemed to have real momentum?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Not an issue at all in the fucking campaign for president, and it's bizarre. Especially considering one of those trials was for trying to overturn the last election.

Kamala doesn't even mention it.  His cult thinks it is all rigged against him and all the people who don't pay attention probably think something along those lines as well, since that is all they hear ad nauseum.  Idiot world.

I think she called him a convicted felon once in the debate. There hasn't been much talk at all about it since. I'm sure there's a good reason for it, but man, I'd be saying in place of his name "The criminal I'm running against", etc.

In the eyes of the news, you could also say that it's merely an issue on the same level of Walz' location during Tienemen Square, tarriffs, or Kamala working at McDonald's which is run through the tired mill of "how will this affect the voters?"
As you suggest, the existential threat of a candidate who has spoken aloud and more than once about suspending the Constitution, using the Army for domestic tyranny, elections being rigged, and the roadmap to tyranny that is Prop 2025 should be the issue.
I'm getting boring with this, I know, but I can't keep my mouth shut both in shock and the will to say that the biggest news story since the Civil War is right in front of these talking heads and they won't see it for what it is. They don't dare say aloud what they can see with their own eyes.

They could actually find themselves before a tribunal explaining how they're not traitors. It's ironic that the TV newsmedia may as well be traitors for how they're letting the fascist train roll right down the tracks without inquiry.
Let's go to our panel who will present their guesses on how the battleground states may vote.
That's. Not. The. Story. Dumbass.

There has been much more commentary on Kamala's laugh than on Trump's 86 felony counts or whatever it is. I wonder how many of Trump's court cases the average swing state voter can even name. "You see so in this one, he tried to end democracy and install himself as an unelected dictator. So, you know, kind of important."

It's some dumbass Dem consultant shit. They obviously believe that because it didn't seem to matter to independents in a couple of polls months ago there's no value in using it. But it likely didn't matter to independents in a couple of polls months ago because they didn't know shit about it and hadn't started paying attention, but it could become a bigger issue with them now if she actually talked about it a lot.
