UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty stepping down. Under Witty, United accelerated its use of AI to wrongly deny more patient healthcare claims (with 90% error rate) and preyed on seniors through committing Medicare Advantage fraud

So he’s running for Senate?

Elizabeth Potter MD of Austin, calls United Healthcare to try to get her patient approved for the lifesaving treatment she needs. Hilarity ensues.

Spoiler

I’m sharing an actual recent peer-to-peer call that shows what physicians and patients face when trying to get a surgery approved. This call felt as absurd as it sounds.

The peer-to-peer call was to advocate for surgery to prevent and treat lymphedema for a patient with breast cancer. Her risk is high and we can perform a surgery to lower it.

The doctors from the insurance company on the call were an ophthalmologist with a subspecialty in oculoplastic surgery and a plastic surgeon who currently has a cosmetic practice. Neither doctor has ever performed lymph venous bypass…the surgery I was trying to get approved for my patient.

Neither doctor would provide their name or license number.

At the conclusion of the call, the doctors told me that they didn’t have the power to make a determination or decision to perform the surgery. They were just there to inform me of United’s decision to deny it.

The Medical Decision was not up to the doctors on the call. It had already been made by United.

So here I am, appealing again.

Medical decisions should be made by doctors who are well informed and patient-centered. Patients deserve access to the care that they paid for with their premiums.

Sooooo.......I didn't see this in the news.

The dude who shot up mid-town a few weeks ago was supposedly gunning for the NFL offices. HOWEVER, one of his victims was Wesley LaPatner.

Who is Wesley LaPatner? She was the CEO of Blackstone's “Real Estate Income Trust” (BREIT) division. BREIT owns hundreds of thousands of housing and rental units in the USA. I think they are THE largest owner of housing in the housing, all rental properties.

Just a coincidence? Wrong place, wrong time?

Is that a second time?  IIRC UH threatened to sue her.

ETA:  apparently, they did not sue her, but took her and her surgery center off their approved list, which is hitting hard.  https://www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with-a-surgeon-facing-retaliation

In this video, the patient she is speaking about is my dear friend, who has gone through chemo, a double mastectomy, and is going under the knife again based on the lymphedema issue referenced.  My friend will be paying out of pocket for this crucial procedure thanks to United being the biggest pieces of shit in history.  That will be followed by radiation and multiple more surgeries.   Dr. Potter is a fucking hero, and her attempts to fight these pieces of shit at United have taken a major financial toll on her and her practice.

For more info on Dr. Potter, she was interviewed by NBC here: https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/texas-surgeon-says-unitedhealthcare-dispute-may-force-bankruptcy-rcna223519

For those inclined to support a doctor who is going to the mat for us, the patients,  she has a GoFundMe me here:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with-a-surgeon-facing-retaliation. (sorry, I missed where you added this to your post somehow, but it can't hurt to have the link here twice)

Fuck United and the cowards on the phone with Dr. Potter in this clip.

Wrong place, wrong time. She was in the lobby on her way to get drinks with a friend.
