but economic uncertainty - lots of unemployed people who have no jobs to occupy their time, could have contributed.

This has a lot to do with it.  Our society does not offer the majority of citizens the economic security/quality of life promise of 70 years ago and it rewards deception/greed like never before.  When people feel their future is completely out their control and have nothing to look forward to, they latch on to conspiracy theories that try to easily explain why things are the way they are and down the rabbit hole they go.

Yeah but after shit went down right?  It doesn't seem like anyone preemptively requested backup for capitol police to help with security.

You could see them coming a mile away.

No, really, they marched a mile or so to the capitol. You would think that time might have been used to beef up security a little, from basically zero.

I feel a tiny bit for the fact that she was radicalized in the first place, because I've been worried about family being similarly radicalized. I do believe she and most of the morons in that mob would've giddily participated in executions of Pelosi, Schumer, et al if they could've gotten their hands on them, so I think shooting her was warranted. But I think it's ok to still feel sad for some of these people in a more general sense as for most of them there probably was some alternative path they could've taken that wouldn't have led them to become radicalized, or at least not to this extent.

Of course, the problem with that is that these people tend to self-radicalize. They seek out the bullshit that they want to believe is true and have no problem believing it because it's what they want to be true. So we can't just entirely blame the assholes who are manipulating them for greed or worse. Still, it's vital that we never lose the ability to empathize with these people, because we need to understand them if we're ever going to stop the radicalization of half of America.

Bravo.  Well said all around and 100% accurate and the bolded part for emphasis.

I thought I read somewhere that it was but was denied by you know who. It wasn't until Pence intervened that the calvary showed up.

Guns pointed at you and you still keep pushing?  This belongs in that "play stupid games" category.  I guess right up to the point of death some folks still think they are invincible.  All you had to do was walk away and go yell somewhere else.  "Death cult" is apt.

just noticed all the chairs and furniture barricaded to these doors in an attempt to keep the rioters out. This was definitely a "last stand" moment.

I consistently underestimate the malevolence of these people, but I still have to think they're too cowardly/larpy to actually execute someone.

I would like to think/hope so, but mob mentality is a hell of a thing.

I guarantee a majority of the people there have at least spoken or posted about death and violence to the socialists. Obviously, that's a big leap to actually perpetrating it, but they sure as shit weren't there to have a civil discussion.

Correct.  Lots of questions about preparation/lack thereof.  I'm leaning that the security posture was intentional to make the coup possible until I see evidence to the contrary.  There's no way the FBI missed all the SIGINT that this shitstorm was brewing.  There's no way the capitol police were caught flat footed by an event that was advertised for a week+.  There's no way the RoE should have allowed the crowd to breach the building without consequences.  The lack of NG at least being on hot standby is just another big question that someone needs to get a clear answer for.

No, you're wrong here. These people have been talking about The Storm and the day that the evil pedophile Dems would be rounded up and executed for months to years now. Now there were certainly people in that crowd more enthusiastic about it than others, and like I said I think most had no real clear goals or idea how they'd make that happen, but if some of the more competent and serious people there had been able to seize members of Congress the whole crowd would've been fucking giddy to execute them all. That's just human nature. Think about how entire towns of "normal" people used to turn out for lynchings of black men.

There is probably the odd psychopath in there that would, but I think for the majority of them, actually killing someone is a bit too real for them.

No one way of knowing. So no chances taken by SS.

I don't know. Doesn't matter. It's done. No such thing as a little coup. It's all or nothing. It is a coup and then if the transfer doesn't happen, it is a successful coup. These little skirmishes are more than protests, they are unwitting participants in it.

GWB started a war on false pretenses that killed nearly a million people. He will carry the mantle of worst POTUS of anybody's lifetime for anybody alive on or before 1/19/2021. Period.

as a country going back to the 80s we began to wage war on the social safety net and one of the outcomes has been the elimination of education in the social sciences, history, geography, critical thinking.  these good people have been brainwashed, and it's all age groups, but the fox/murdoch problem is only 20 years old, and the vast majority of the brainwashed are ages 25 to 45.  they are not going to spontaneously reprogram, and it will take 2 decades to fix this problem if we began a massive billion-dollar investment in primary education today.

I don't buy this.

What I might buy is that education in underprivileged areas has kind of gone to shit, but I sincerely doubt that it's any worse now than it was 20-30 years ago, but the disparity is more extreme.

Middle class and wealthy schools offer unprecedented numbers of AP classes, IB diplomas, all that and to a certain extent, that has to "raise all boats."

I think attitudes about education among the underclass have gone to shit, though.  Meaning kids learn less from what they're presented/taught than they used to, particularly among the underclass.

They showed up armed, with zip ties, and seized the floors of Congress. How much more real does it need to get?

I saw this on Twitter but it’s true: the KKK is full of fantastical dorks calling themselves wizards which seems absurd- then they murder and terrorize. Don’t underestimate people bc they don’t initially appear menacing

They stormed the United States Capitol draped in Trump flags, hats, etc. I understand this is hard to process. I’m still a little shell shocked too. But everyone involved crossed the threshold of psychopath.

Go watch the video of the initial breach of the gates from yesterday. The exact same people who initially listen to the orders of the cops telling them to stay put turn into maniacs as soon as they realize they have the mob behind them.

Democrats ABSOLUTELY, 10000% would have been killed had the mob gotten to them.  Also worth keeping in mind that these heathens would be doing what they think is a service to the world, killing the leaders of a pedo ring or whatever the current fucked up story is on Parler.

Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It's the only way to live in cars
Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for days in cars
Here in my car
Where the image breaks down
Will you visit me please
If I open my door in cars
Here in my car
I know I've started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right in cars

Twice, I hate to join the pile-on here bud, but just think about how mob mentality works.

Even the most tepid of these people reads "BLOOD OF TYRANTS WATERS THE TREE OF LIBERTY!" crap all day. That seeps in, and once the mob around them starts acting they aren't going to be independently withdrawn from it. They're followers. That's all mobs have EVER been.

They would've carried him out on their shoulders like he had just coached them to a national championship.

None of them looked particularly fit. It would require a group with the combined strength of a division 1 offensive line to carry Cruz’s fat ass out.

Spitballing but perhaps the car or truck is an extension of self? Bigger, larger, and more powerful?

Plus, home is more intimate, more revealing about social status (home loans are a little harder to get than auto loans), and other people might be around who would make fun of you/harass you about doing chores/call the police for a welfare check. Truck is private enough that it's not like you're at the park where Karen will call the cops but also where your boss can't see you're not working.

This. I don't even think it's correct to characterize that as psychopathy. That's just normal human behavior (see my prior comparison to lynch mobs).

Poor rural people don’t have the means or easy access to an airport to decide to fly off to DC and pay for hotel/rental cars/DC priced food etc with a few days notice.

Not to mention all the Gravy Seal costumes and Trump paraphernalia.

Those people yesterday weren’t the poor folks.

It's fine.

I'm a walking contradiction in terms of alternately being grotesquely cynical and pollyannish optimistic, especially when human nature is concerned.

I can take being wrong.

My only real contact with a Trumper is my father in law and he's a decent person.  He can be at least temporarily shaken out of his internet and media-fueled insanity.  But I suppose you put him in a crowd of those maniacs, where the internet has come to life and it's nelly bar the door.

Nope the screenshot I posted of an old friend headed up there who thinks Morris code is a thing is pretty well off ( I think). She has a pretty nice place out in Rockwall Heath area and is a director at a injury rehab place or some shit. Makes pretty good money

Let's be fair here. People used to show up for any sort of hanging or any other sort of public execution, regardless of the skin color of the person to be hanged.
