On what subject should you be considered Surly's resident expert?

Featured Replies

Subject/topic/skill can be broad or very specific, I'm just looking for confidence that no one else here is better at it, or more knowledgeable about it.

I'm pretty boring, so I'm more interested in your responses, but if I had to offer an example I'd say I probably know more about the "sport" of curling than anyone else.  Not that I'm all THAT great at it, but purely because of the demographics here.

Guesses as to other posters' expertise is welcome

Being surly.

Suggest a better approach would be nominate what you think people are experts on. I nominate @RDCanecutter as our version of Chaucer.

We're yfucked.

Agreed, this feels like giving yourself a nickname.  @RDCanecutter is a bit more mythic than Chaucer, maybe Homer?

@TwiceHorn for patent law, @jimmyjazz for horseradish sauce, @Schulz2.0 for maritime and navy, you for the Balkans and development. There’s a lot of people here who are really damn smart.

if by “Chaucer” you meant “Hunter S. Thompson”, then I agree.

Since this site is nothing but @hitbyatrain socks, aren’t we just nominating ourselves?

Interesting. I hope i know more than those two subjects.

Gotta nominate @Laxtonto for the best posts in any live football game thread.

Nah, I see him more of a wine and mead dude now vs. tons of acid and doing lines off a colombian hookers ass. That I see earlier in his life. But I could be wrong.

He could also be our nominee for dude who will rip you off playing poker on a riverboat AND has two derringers in his pockets.

It's kind of obvious

I'd be willing to guess there's a few virgins here that technically got you beat.

I could tell you, but then I'd have to clear my search history.

Change it to "Ran Craps tables with penny and nickel bets and folks STILL wanted to whup my ass," and you might be warmer.

@Brisketexan for Michelin ratings of restaurants and gas station food in the RGV and central Texas areas

Also, expertise in being the first person arrested and sent to the next administration’s FEMA camp.

Finally (and here I’m reading between the lines), the preferred way to remove stubborn shart stains from underwear after Brisket’s culinary adventures

@Vic Mackey for large girls. @hornian for family law.  These subjects may or may not be related.

@hornian has @Vic Mackey on retainer as a subject matter expert. Jurors are blown away by his in-field experience and regaled by the tales of his exploits.

Currencies and Chinese shadow banking

Knowing a Richard Pryor quote that perfectly explains any screwed up situation.

Laziness and procrastination.  I spend so much time and energy trying to come up with reasons for not doing stuff, that it’s almost more work than actually doing the stuff.

I guess technically for Congress and how it works, but that more or less is the same as outhouse maintenance.
