The flaw in his reasoning is an assumption that religious members of MAGA retain any fidelity to their church. Their faith resides in the MAGA movement and anything that is a contradiction to MAGA is discarded. Catholic, Protestant and weird non-denominational offshoots don't matter, only the overarching cult matters.

The non-Southern Baptists don't necessarily care because they weren't lobbying hard for this and they aren't happy either way.

The Southern Baptists, the types that kicked Beth Moore to the curb, may not openly say it, but they don't care for the Catholics, and I'm not just mentioning the Catholic angle by the way, - I'm throwing in that the Muslims, Mormons, etc., are liable to get stuff put in the classrooms.

I've been asking this for the last 8 years, rinse and repeat. But if you and others want to joke about living in Iran and how shitty the USA is, wow.

The USA is a better place to live than Iran, and no one has stated otherwise.  However, if you can't see how Iran and Texas have more in common culturally than Texas does with European nations, or even most U.S. states,  I don't know what to tell you.  Death penalty infatuation, dominance of politics by religious fanatics, subjugating women, actively working to keep the citizenry poorly educated, etc.   There are more similarities than differences, thanks to a minority faction in both Texas and Iran who are still living in the Middle Ages and have managed to seize control of the populace.  Texas mostly has an edge because it's easier to leave (for now).

Lol, no they aren't.  It's like you have this fantasy world concocted in your head and no idea what is happening in reality.

John Candy Reaction GIF We'll allow only one religion to proselytize in public schools, and there will be nothing anyone can do about it.  That's the American way of doing things.

Southern Baptists, and evangelicals in general, hate Catholics so much that they were pro-choice up until the 90s or so, to make sure no one thought they were in alignment with the Catholics on any issue whatsoever.  Most of the brainwashed cult members of today seem to be operating in ignorance of that reality.  They are a political cult, not a religion.

This provision is straight up social manipulation.  The only purpose is to make other people comply with the process. It doesn't make fuck if anyone actually believes, much less abides by the 10 Commandments.

It's also exercise #1366433356788898 in chasing mice while getting trampled by elephants.

We are zero serious as a society about actually fixing the education process.  We seem much more intent upon destroying it.

Guys, when Iceman figures out the utter fuckery that is afoot . . . . yeah, FFS.  It's that damned simple.

I was an SBC kid during the rise of the Religious Right. I remember the reprogramming that took place regarding abortion as a newly categorized sin. I also remember the effort to get church members to join the Republican party. That stands out because I remember the really old Southern Baptists throwing a fit while expressing Civil War/Reconstruction grievances. There was also a lot of distrust of the political coalition because of the charismatics being heavily involved.

I've brought this up with people that are older than me who were there for the experience and they act like it never happened.

When your argument is that government schooling doesn’t work, but people don’t believe you and facts don’t support you, the only reasonable recourse is to get elected and make the schools worse until people agree with you. It’s what god wants.

Americans are really good about forgetting things that have happened within our own lifetimes. It's astounding.

Right there with you. I also thought about putting it next to the board where I write announcements, like "Test on Wednesday", because I know students never look at that.

But in all seriousness, I cannot in good conscience put this in my classroom. Off the top of my head, in my classes last year I know I had Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, agnostics, and athiests in my classes last year. I am not going to hang up an official sign from the government that says "I am the Lord, your god. You shall have no other gods before me."

Sure you can. Put it up with some stuff said by Zeus, Ra, and others and label it Mythology. Have fun with malicious compliance.

Doesn't even have to be malicious, really.  A blurb about world religion is worthwhile in history/social studies.

And that's the correct context to discuss religion, honestly. It's cultural, not factual

1. Don't be a sanctimonious jerk: Don't act superior or judgmental about others' beliefs.
2. Don't use my existence to oppress: Don't use religion to harm or control others.
3. Don't judge people based on appearance: Treat everyone with respect, regardless of how they look or dress.
4. Don't engage in harmful behavior: Don't do anything that would offend yourself or a consenting adult.
5. Don't build temples: The FSM doesn't want extravagant displays of worship.
6. Don't put people in cages: This is a more direct call to action against oppression.
7. Don't work too much: Prioritize happiness and well-being over endless work.
8. Don't censor things: Encouraging open discussion and freedom of thought.

Our media rapid fires controversy after breaking news headline after scandal after war to keep pushing things out of our brain.  It's a combo of American amnesia + the inability to keep up with and retain all the "big historical events" that have happened in our lifetime

I teach 5th grade science and social studies. Damn right I’ll be posting and teaching every damn religion out there. Especially from the satanic temple

Being a Tesla driver isn't a belief structure, bro

I was trying to subtly comment that the entire "FSM" construct is an exercise in perceived intellectual superiority and judgment of others' beliefs.

Not all of us.  And you will find those that are interested in solidifying education on one side of the aisle.

I'm amazed at the number of "religious" people who can't follow that one simple edict.

Why? They are just a sinner and can ask for forgiveness on their deathbed.

Wait.

You mean something like recognizing the free exercise of religion in order to enable some kind of equality in faith and belief? Perhaps even fostering an understanding of religion in general in an attempt to quell hate/fear/stupidity while recognizing that religiosity, or an absence of, is an intensely personal activity to be respected as a fundamental human right?

Say, that's not a bad idea.

The U.S. should think about making that an amendment or something.

My wife teaches the color guard at our high school.  I asked her the other day, "is the band hall a classroom"?  She said, "yeah, I guess so".  I said "great, the next time you're up there you can pick out a nice clean spot to hang your copy of the Ten Commandments" (she hadn't heard about the bill getting signed yet).  Tone.

But then I started thinking, is the weight room a classroom?  Gym?  Football stadium, baseball field?  Hard to argue that they are not, where does it end?

I'm actually excited about this. Can't wait to see what chicanery today's youth are capable of in protesting this bullshit.  At least at the high school level, if those posters make it a week without being vandalized/outright destroyed, I'll be surprised.  Let the Tik Tok challenges begin!
