RIP to one of the greats. The Sting is one of those movies I always watch if I run across it.  Since Sneakers was already mentioned I will nominate Brubaker as one of his “underrated films”.  As a kid I watched that a ton and learned all about the corrupt prison system in this country.

Heresy perhaps but Sneakers might be my favorite. RIP to a legit old school silver screen legend.

He was in a lot of great movies but Sneakers had an amazing cast and was so prescient about technology and data.

As somebody studying computer science and working in IT when that movie came out, I loved the shit out of that movie and still do today.  Loved the cast.  Loved that it started out as a sequel to War Games.  Putting aside Redford and the rest of the cast, it's a well-made/tightly-edited movie.

Enjoyed many films he directed as well.

Did not know until today that he went by his middle name.  Charles is his first name.

Damn. Butch and Sundance is in my top 5 all time favorite movies.

His support of independent film and art made a profound impact on so many young artists and helped launch innumerable careers.

A huge loss, but an even larger enduring impact.

Damn shitty news today.

Sneakers is one of my faves. So damn good, among so much of his work.

RIP to one of the all time greats.  I imagine he and Paul are tearing it up somewhere.  Two things I didn't know until today:

* Redford was on a baseball scholarship at UC-Boulder but lost it because of his drinking

* his Mom was from Austin and so they spent a lot of time here when he was growing up.

His closing narration in A river runs through it still gives me chills.

That might be my favorite film of his.  Such an even pace, and while I imagine it would be difficult to screw up that scenery, he really nailed it.  It's just a beautiful film.

One of the all times greats.  This hurts.  His closing narration in A river runs through it still gives me chills.

In 2019 I went to a wedding outside Missoula in the area where this was filmed. Breathtakingly beautiful country.

RIP to a damn icon.  Redford persona and charisma overcame his inability to play by Hollywood's conventional rules.  A true artist.  The greatest ending of any baseball movie ever....

Wilford Brimley was like 38 there.

His Granddad built the house my wife's Aunt currently lives in and that's where he spent summers growing up.

I think it was like 15-20 years ago my wife's Aunt gets a call from "Bob's people" explaining he would like to come visit the house and relive memories.  She had no idea the history.

He shows up and proceeds to spend several hours telling her and my wife's uncle about the story of his granddad building it and his memories of the times he spent here.

They are to call him Bob, as that's what his friends call him, and if they ever want to come to Sundance Film Festival, please call him and they will be his special guest.  They never took him up on that.

My MIL was some kinda pissed she wasn't notified ahead of time he was coming (they didn't tell anyone).  Lol.
