spacex launched 83% of all orbital missions last year

the global market speaks it's mind .....

how does spacex control 83% of the global launch business ???

Go ask your SpaceX questions in the SpaceX thread.

Of course venture capital is not cool with throwing away money, that is why it is a failure in the long run.

Musk promised dreams of ultra cheap launches so much so that they conned space dreamers (like me, but I never fell for it), had he promised REAILITY aka just marginally cheaper launches than what the Soviets were doing in the 80s his cult would not be where it is today.

China is building maglev launch systems, venture capital failed Spin Launch which has pivoted to rockets, to get the morsels to survive

https://www.scmp.com/news/china/science/article/3303761/china-bid-challenge-giant-spacex-deploying-maglev-rocket-launch-pad-2028

Yeah if the species goes multiplanetary it will be Musk preventing it from happening more than thanks to him. Launch assisted should have been the only priority even before the Apollo project which in itself was a dead end.

I already explained above.

I'm very skeptical of the launch costs you cite. But beyond that, you're just ignoring purchasing power parity that would be driving lower costs for Russia/Soviet Union. Further, marginally lower costs wouldn't have completely disrupted the launch market.

As to China, they are also heavily invested in replicating SpaceX's success with reusable rockets.  They have multiple projects going on simultaneously to do that, including some recent tests that were very similar to SpaceX's hopper.

Electromagnetic launching would be interesting and something that has been discussed for decades. As the Navy's recent attempt at fielding rail guns has demonstrated, they are a lot more difficult and expensive than expected. There is basically a 0% chance that entity successfully introduced a launcher in 2028. I'm confident that the cost required to get a rocket to supersonic speeds via electromagnetic acceleration would greatly exceed fuel costs, which are a small fraction of a rocket launch costs. Fuel costs for a Falcon 9 launch are on the order of a few hundred thousand dollars vs a launch price (not cost) of around $70 million. Spending billions upon billions in an attempt to save a portion of those fuel costs isn't great math. And then you'll also have to deal with hoping the rocket actually fires after being accelerated as apparently the plan for that entity is to assist the rocket rather than outright send something to to orbit entirely with electromagnetic acceleration.

Oh the one that everyone has known about for a decade and didn’t make one damn but of difference?  Neat

We say that, but my high school teacher who voted for Trump 3X and shares Republican agitprop on Facebook daily just saw it for the first time yesterday and seems genuinely troubled by it, after having spent the last 8 years talking about Clinton and Epstein.

If the Tesla board wasn’t a sham, they should demand that he check himself into rehab and go on an apology tour. That won’t happen, of course, because the board has zero independence.

BREAKING: Trump Threatens Elon Musk Again - “He’ll Have to Pay the Consequences”

https://krassencast.com/p/breaking-trump-threatens-elon-musk?utm_source=substack&publication_id=1458862&post_id=165424362&utm_medium=email&utm_content=share&utm_campaign=email-share&triggerShare=true&isFreemail=true&r=3agz2m&triedRedirect=true

Quote

Let’s not dance around it—Donald Trump just issued a threat. Not to a foreign adversary. Not to a criminal defendant. But to Elon Musk.

Share

Yes, that Elon Musk—the richest man on Earth, the owner of X, and someone Trump once courted like a prom date. Now? He’s in Trump’s crosshairs.

In a stunning statement, Trump said:

“If he [funds Democrats], he’ll have to pay the consequences for that. He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that.”

Let’s pause right there.

Trump is threatening a private citizen for exercising a constitutional right: donating to the political party of his choice.

This isn’t a slip of the tongue. This isn’t Trump being Trump. This is authoritarianism out loud.

The President vs. the Presidency

Trump wasn’t done. He continued by painting Musk as some kind of national traitor, saying:

“He’s disrespectful to the office of the President. I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the President.”

And here’s where it crosses into the surreal.

Because the only person actually disrespecting the office of the President... is Donald Trump himself.

This is the same man who called for jailing his political enemies. Who referred to members of Congress as “vermin.” Who refused to concede a fair election. Who incited an insurrection. Who’s currently facing nearly a hundred felony charges across multiple jurisdictions.

But Elon Musk funding Democrats? That’s the line-crossing disrespect?

A Warning We Shouldn’t Ignore

Trump isn’t just talking to Musk. He’s sending a message to every donor, every CEO, every citizen who dares to support his opposition: “You’ll pay for it.”

That’s not politics. That’s not leadership.

That’s a threat.

And no amount of gold-plated hotels, angry speeches, or Truth Social meltdowns can disguise it.

Probably my only response in this forum (filled with blind tribalism on all sides - the title of this post is sufficient proof).  I don't have the patience for it, but thank you for the page.

Your assessment is pretty spot-on, with the "I lost patience with the test-fail-test-fail-test-fail mentality quickly" being my attitude, too.  Failure *is* an option... once.  Don't keep failing and telling me it's a success.  However, you can't argue with the ultimate success of the Falcon 9 series, including both cargo and crewed variants.  They were primarily responsible for the success of the US commercial space efforts not sliding into the abyss of failure.

Relying on the Russians was never going to be a winning hand - I told my leadership that back during the Shuttle program, pre-ISS.  I actually caused a (minor) program incident when I inadvertently insulted my Russian counterpart by "daring to question" his computations (which were wrong - and I saw it/proved it early).  When I was "counseled" for not just accepting his wrong data and fixing it later, I reminded them "that's how Challenger happened."  They were not particularly pleased with that reminder, but I was right.

WRT SpaceX, there are two types of people there now - the fanbois who think everything they do is great (and are evidenced by the crappy PAO-types they shove on broadcasts and the screaming idiots behind the glass at SpaceX mission control), and the ones who actually see the issues, but are somewhat afraid of the consequences of bringing up problems.  I know several former colleagues who got there and left because they wanted to be the third type - the ones who see, identify, and voice not only the issue but the solutions... and that wasn't encouraged.

Don't get me wrong - the SpaceX engineering team is doing some brilliant things, but the attitude getting to a successful and sustainable program is different than mine.  They have a more disposable/test/fail/test/fail mentality that has never appealed to me.

When fail leads to loss of life (which I suppose it hasn’t here yet) fail is not an option.  It’s scary that people would trust BD guys over engineers.

Wut

You need hundreds of billions of dollars in R&D to really revolutionize space, not even SpaceX can get that much money through VC or private launches.

Most tragically the money they have collected have all gone into a moneypit dead end, a traditional rocket.

At the end of the day you need assisted launch, period.

Wake me when they publish the Epstein files.

At this point I just don't get it, nothing will happen, the cult would excuse anything, they already excuse what is publically available, if there is video evidence they will call it fake and Fox News will never mention it.

That is sadly why I am calling Musk a conspiracy loon, Trump does not care about him being on the files, because Trump runs a doomsday cult that will never break until his fuckups affect them directly.

So the summary…

Leon came out in round 1 and surprised Dotard with a flurry of blows. Dotard seemed a bit staggered. Leon’s crowd and neutral onlookers became giddy, anticipating a knockout.

In round 2, Dotard up’d his defense and stung Leon with a few glancing shots. Dotard’s fans came to life, defending their champion. Leon retreated to ropes throwing a few soft punches but apologizing for them shortly after.

Leon refused to come out of his corner for round 3, crying like a bitch on his stool. He later denied that he was even at the arena. Leon’s fans went back into basement of their mother’s house and blamed the day’s events on women and minorities who ruin everything.
